Very simple question. The injury either made us make this decision or Irving is simply the better player that fits the timeline.

I think it still happens. The big issue on our end is/was IT's pending free agency, and even without the injury, I doubt Ainge would've been willing to pay anywhere near what IT wanted. So to be able to deal with that issue a year early and get an upgrade in Kyrie, that makes a lot of sense for us.

In the long run, his injury was a major blessing in disguise for the Cavs, because it forced us to include the Nets pick and leave it completely unprotected. If IT were completely healthy, I'm sure we could have had some sort of protection on it.

I'm not sure if it does because would Danny have given The Nets pick and Crowder and Zizic and a healthy IT and would The Cavs have made the trade without the pick? I think it's impossible to say....

Maybe, I voted no, however.

Regardless, the trade would definitely not have included that Brooklyn pick if IT was healthy.

I disagree. Thomas is going to walk next year. Where is the value in that. Crowder and Zizic for Irving. No way.

We have so many other 1st round picks we could have sent..
The Laker pick would have been as high as he would have done, Definitely not the BK pick for a healthy IT

Concerns about IT's health was the root of this deal. It was why I believe we were so comfortable with passing on Fultz... simply because we already had our PG. Losing IT for majority of the season would be a backward step for a team that has put so much in place. I'd also add that Kyrie would be the ONLY option that makes us even consider trading IT.

I hope that in Ainge's mind giving up IT for Irving was worth it regardless of the injury. Otherwise, that was a bad trade.

We have always criticized IT for his height and ceiling so surely Ainge believes that with a young similar player, can hope for more from our new PG and will fit the timeline of this team he has built.
