Very simple question. The injury either made us make this decision or Irving is simply the better player that fits the timeline.
I think it still happens. The big issue on our end is/was IT's pending free agency, and even without the injury, I doubt Ainge would've been willing to pay anywhere near what IT wanted. So to be able to deal with that issue a year early and get an upgrade in Kyrie, that makes a lot of sense for us.
In the long run, his injury was a major blessing in disguise for the Cavs, because it forced us to include the Nets pick and leave it completely unprotected. If IT were completely healthy, I'm sure we could have had some sort of protection on it.
