Agree. I dont know and I hevent been following soccer long enough, but can Modric be that DM? That would not be a good idea, no?

Maybe they sell him and get one? Lars Bender?

I am still in shock that Madrid got Kroos for 25 million.

No - I don't see it. Luka Modric is an attacking midfielder that is best utilized in the top third of the pitch. He has played a holding midfielder in the past, but even when he did so he was still a playmaker.

Yeah, Modric can play as holding midfielder. He has played there before in the past. Modric can also play as a #10 (also played there in the past). As well as central midfield (his best and most effective position). Modric can play in all three central midfield positions. He has also played in wide positions (left midfield definitely, not sure if he has played right side but I see no reason why he cannot). Versatile midfielder.

His best position is central midfield though. Where he can link between defense and attack and act as a ball carrier (dribbler).

There are diminished returns when he plays as DM or AM. Adequate rather than strong in defensive qualities. Generally not incisive enough or score enough goals as AM. Also diminished returns as LM where he doesn't have pace to blow by defenders. Still a really good player in these positions but not World Class as he is at CM.

Modric is good but not a def midfielder. He is hard working but Real needs an Essien type of player.

And as for bying a DM ... who will be benched for the him ?

@Who i don`t think i get your point. They bought too high ? He is not good enough ? If you ask me Real got him cheap but they didn`t need him.

Yes, so cheap. Why did Man Utd pull out of transfer? They were willing to pay more a few months ago. Then Van Gaal took over. No more Kroos. Amazed Man Utd didn't offer more money when Kroos was available at such a low price.

I also think that

Modric + Xabi + Kroos

is an incredible midfield 3 for a 433. Excellent balance.

Or how about dropping Benzema and playing like Chile do with 4-3-1-2.

Play Bale and C.Ronaldo up front like Chile do with Alexis Sanchez and Vargas. Moving in and out of central and wide positions. Very difficult to pickup defensively. Then James Rodriguez behind them like Valdivia as central playmaker. Xabi, Kroos and Modric as midfield trio. Shielding defense and organizing attacks from deep. Wing backs pushing forward to provide added width.

I think that system gives Madrid best balance in defending and attacking.

They would also have Benzema as a game changing substitute where Madrid could easily change system into a 433 or a 4231.

A change of formation is the best solution and i think Ancelloti knows it. I don`t think there is any chance that he will choose to play without any real defense in the middle and bet on scoring more than the opponent.
