Per @SBondyNYDN tweet
According to a source, Joe Tsai [Nets owner] made the call to fire Kenny Atkinson after consulting with players.

How long is Ryan Saunders' job safe for in Minnesota? Given how Atkinson turned the Nets around and helped make D'Angelo Russell a star, I wonder if the T'Wolves may have an interest in KA next season.

Wouldn't that be awesome?

And MIN does have the pieces there...DeAngelo..I love Okogie's defense...Beasly....I'd bet that Towns gets better defensively as well.

If Kenny ends up in MINNY as you said I'd bet MIN gets a playoff spot next season.

Kinda obvious that diva Irving wanted him gone, and his buddy Durant agreed with him.

Should bring Atkinson in to the Celtics and replace Brad Stevens! I'd be down for that.

Uhh, what? Lol.

Brad Stevens plays too much Wannamaker, that's enough to get fired. ;)

That's my guess in why he wants Stevens to be replaced. :D

NBA Rumors: Nets Players (Kyrie Irving?) Wanted Kenny Atkinson Fired As Coach

Good guess. And if true, what else is new with short Lebron wannabe

rumors sure, but i wonder if he ever approached Ainge to have Stevens fired at any point?

I'm sure he did and got told to get lost.

Well I'm off the CBS train. Sick of his lack of timeout usage, passiveness on the sideline, not firing up his players, and allowing double-digit leads to be blown and losing games. If you're not gonna coach and let players figure it out on the floor, then why even hold a position like that.

You realize the coach in the NBA most like Stevens is Atkinson, right?

As talented as Kyrie and KD are, I don't see it working out in BKN. These guys will get heavily scrutinized when things go a little south and these guys might literally be two of the most sensitive stars in the league. A perfect pairing lol

My question is - what happens IF BKN is bad next season?

At this point they must be thinking "Championship or bust" with Kenny walking....

So..whomever they bring in...what happens if Durant is "ONLY" top 12 player (vice top 2)....Kyrie is erratic...he was certainly a bit erratic in BOS...

So..if after 2 seasons or so - the Kyrie-Durant experiment fails?

Then what? Can't fall back on a quality coach (Kenny A) anymore......and whomever they bring in could very well bolt...

BKN could be even WORSE than what they were before Kenny got there...a smoldering heap of a franchise built on the dream of what Durant and Kyrie could (or could NOT) do.....

This is not to even mention that Kenny could've been ONLY the first shoe to drop...which PLAYERS are getting shipped out...what trades are being made?

Didn't Kyrie state at one point last season that BKN needed more help?

At the end of the day I'm thankful for a strong chain of command in BOS.....

Danny has stood by his man, lol. And for good reason.

Some of the Nets coaching possibilities for next season:

-Mark Jackson
-Jeff Van Gundy
-Ty Lue
-Dave Joerger
-David Fizdale
-Tom Thibodeau
-Mike Brown
-Jason Kidd

Who is the best fit for Kyrie and Durant out of that group?

Weird timing.  20 games to go in the season & certainly looking like a lock for the playoffs.

Maybe they wanted to tank and keep their pick. It goes elsewhere if they make the playoffs.

Atkinson is a top 10 coach in the league. He's not always the most creative, but the scheme he runs and his development of young ball-handlers is some of the best coaching in the league.
