Pierce-Kobe tandem? :O
What if?! That would've been cool

I guess it is always possible to hate a player on the team you love.

Celtics whiffed on many players back in the day. McGrady the draft after Kobe.

Revisionist history is both fun and painful.

If I remember correctly, Kobe had pretty much said that he would only play for LA or Chicago.

Root for the laundry.

Would've been a Kobe fan. No doubt.  Just like I would've hated Pierce if he was drafted by the Lakers and played out his career there.

Kobe was coming out of high school and was drafted in the teens.  He had no power to demand anything.  Face it; Jerry West is simply smarter than most.

Kobe and Antoine playing together....yeah that would have been fun(ny).

Kobe would have forced his way out pretty quickly.  He was made for LA (the epicenter of all DB's)

In fact, we took Antoine the same year kobe was drafted.  So it would have been one or the other, not both.

Yeah...forgot that I guess.

Probably means we would have been too good to be in position to draft Pierce....and Kobe still forces his way out.

So glad it worked out the way it did.

I'm assuming then, Antoine was drafted ahead of Kobe.  Which is hilarious.

Yup.  And truthfully, drafting Kobe likely would have led to much better results that actually occured for us.

Antoine was drafted right around where he should have been and we should be happy with the level of competitiveness he showed while he was here. Other than Pierce, it's not like the roster was filled with all-stars.

I am sure the Mavs who selected Samaki Walker at 9 and the Warriors who selected Todd Fuller at 11 are even more upset that they didn't take Kobe, Nash, or Jermaine. They probably would have killed for Antoine, too.

He would've been one of the greatest Celtics ever, much less one of the greatest players of all-time.

I would've rooted for him, no question.

Even now, while I can't stand the Lakers and hope they never win another game ;D, I still have a lot of respect for Kobe - especially now.

The man is sharing the rock even more than he did before.

after that rookie year, Antoine was looking like the steal of the draft at #6.  Iverson, Marbury and Ray Allen all looked like players but Antoine looked like a legit PF his first and that he'd turn into a very special player.

Then Pitino showed up and screwed him all up.     :'(

"First, I want to apologize directly to the young woman involved in this incident. I want to apologize to her for my behavior that night and for the consequences she has suffered in the past year. Although this year has been incredibly difficult for me personally, I can only imagine the pain she has had to endure. I also want to apologize to her parents and family members, and to my family and friends and supporters, and to the citizens of Eagle, Colo.
I also want to make it clear that I do not question the motives of this young woman. No money has been paid to this woman. She has agreed that this statement will not be used against me in the civil case. Although I truly believe this encounter between us was consensual, I recognize now that she did not and does not view this incident the same way I did. After months of reviewing discovery, listening to her attorney, and even her testimony in person, I now understand how she feels that she did not consent to this encounter.
I issue this statement today fully aware that while one part of this case ends today, another remains. I understand that the civil case against me will go forward. That part of this case will be decided by and between the parties directly involved in the incident and will no longer be a financial or emotional drain on the citizens of the state of Colorado."

Now I don't know if he raped this girl or not. It probably started out consensual and turned into something else. He did something she didn't like and she told him to stop and he didn't. The only people who know are her and him. But you don't make a statement like that and have a settlement if you're 100% innocent. The guy is a scum bag in my book and the only reason people like him is because he can put a ball in a hoop better then almost anymore on earth. I have other reasons to not like him other then just the fact that he's a Laker.

Not that this was "good" thread to begin with, but so nice to see it's taken a turn for the (much) worse.

This just doesn't seem like the place to discuss whether or not Kobe is (or isn't) a rapist, especially seeing as how he was proven innocent in a court of law.

Don't you guys have anything better to talk about?  I'm waiting for the lock.

I said if I'm not sure if he did it or not. But AT BEST, he cheated on his wife who just had his child. I can forgive many things, but I would never look up to him just because he's great at a sport.

He also said he wouldn't play for my home team who drafted him and they traded him to LA. I can't stand a child who demands playing for the team he wants when we really have no idea if he'll be as good as people think.

All I'm saying is that Kobe has certainly did some things...conducted himself in ways that I didn't like.

But at the same time, I'd hope that people would forgive him and forget.

Kobe Bryant can be/has been a polarizing figure...but at the same time he's a human being.

He's also just reconciled with his wife.

I'm not making excuses for him, but at the same time can we take off the Green-Tinted glasses for a bit and just look at the Celtics-Lakers rivalry for tomorrow?

For all it's worth, these two Historically-Driven rivalries will run its course within the next couple of yrs, so I'm enjoying KG, Paul, Rondo, Kobe, Gasol - until then.

As a human being, I wish the best for Kobe.

As a Celtics Fan, I hope he goes 3 for 20, with 8 TOs and fouls out tomorrow night.

Yup.  Caliperi(sp?) was going to take him with the #8 pick when he ran the New Jersey Nets.  He was told that Kobe wouldn't go there and that he would be wasting a pick.  Jerry West verified that Kobe wasn't going to play anywhere else.

Not true. His agent threatened that Kobe would play in Europe, forcing the Nets to pass on him and the eventual trade to LA.

In case you haven't picked up on Kobe's personality, he is extremely strong willed.
