Kyrie. We haven't seen his best basketball yet.
Well, the same goes for Ayton-Doncic-Bagley-Zizic.

When the trade was made, I was thinking of this scenario. My opinion hasn't changed. You make the Kyrie trade every time, since he is an elite player. There are no guarantees that any of those top prospects will amount to anything. Just look at the past #1 pick, who was so bad the team made up an excuse to take him off the court. Plus Kyrie fit into the timeline with Horford and Hayward. I was surprised to see this thread topic, since I thought Kyrie's play and the teams start, pretty much ended the debate.

Can't choose 75% of IT here, so I trade fewer pieces to get Damian Lillard.

We only got Kyrie because he wanted out. If he didn't want out, there is zero chance we get him for the price we did.

Lillard would have taken more pieces.

But you know that and just like to be inflammatory, I guess.

I would have thought so too.

It is pretty common knowledge that a vast majority of the time, the team getting the best player in the deal comes out ahead, in the NBA.

Kind of a bummer we lost out on a promising prospect like Zizic just for salary purposes...

If he didn't demand to be released from his contractual obligation, in search of an even cushier position than he was already in?  Yes, that's true... what a guy!  Hope my kid grows up to exhibit that quality of character.

Edit: Please do not reply that Ainge is great, Kyrie is great, Kyrie defends better than IT.  We know.  And I'm not intending to be inflammatory... what I stated is simply fact.

EDIT: To stay on course.

Overall, love the trade, and will stand by that no matter what IT Or the Nets pick does.

Thiugh I can see how one might feel that was an overpay.

Imagine Kyrie with a viable second option. Imagine if we had Gordan Hayward healthy and in the line-up.

Kyrie may not be the reincarnation of Gary Payton on the defensive end, but he's a heck of a lot better than the vastly unsized IT.

The problem isn't Irving, the problems stems from the loss of Gordan Hayward for the season. This team would be a very different team with Hayward taking pressure off of Kyrie scoring his 20 per game.

It's just a shame we didn't get to see the effect of the two playing together.

I wouldn't have paid Thomas and this year's team was never going to be a real contender so I voted for Irving given the uncertainty with all rookies.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Crowder had to go to open up time for Hayward, Tatum and Brown. Plus it looked like he was going to be a problem.

Zizic showed in Summer League that people saying he would have been a top 10 pick in this year's loaded draft were clueless. He was salary fodder, no loss there.

Given IT was going to be hurt for half the year and probably not given a max contract at season's end, I think the Irving trade was an excellent move.

Where things sting is with that Brooklyn pick. But we were going to have to give up either that pick or the LA pick. Who knows? At this point there is a good chance Danny picked right in giving up the Brooklyn pick. We shall see

Yeah, I really wonder what people thought they saw in him because I totally agree with you, here.

pretty much this.

next year. a lineup of Kyrie/Brown/Hayward/Tatum/Horford is going to be scary good.

It's p obvious by now that Boston has won that trade.

As wayupnorth mentioned, the only reason this trade happened was that Kyrie wanted out - we are lucky we got him.
