I realize Bird is probably not long for this Cs roster, but aren't we using all 15 roster spots right now? I also have some concern about the luxury tax, but the longer we wait to sign him, the less he will cost.

I believe the 15th spot right now is PJ Dozier.
No Dozier is on a two way contract. Bird is the 15th man on the roster for a guaranteed $1.35 million. The Celtics need to have the courts and the NBA come to a close on Bird before the Celtics can really do anything with that roster spot, otherwise they are on the hook for Bird's salary, which they don't want to be.

Ah, I forgot that the Celts are basically pigeonholed on that last roster spot because of bird's legal problems.

Perhaps they'll consider adding a guy like Zeller later in the season once the amount they'd have to eat on bird's contract is less.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.
