Houston?....for John Wall?
need to add some salary.
Sixers would be stupid to trade for Wall.  Sixers just need to hold firm and test Simmons resolve to hold out while not getting paid.

Yeah, that strategy doesn’t seem to work in the NBA. Houston tried to hold firm last year and Harden just sabotaged the team in every way that he could think of until they traded him.
Harden reported though and is a former MVP still in MVP form.  That isn't Simmons.

While true, Simmons can still make himself a distraction.  At some point, adding players via a trade and eliminating the distraction will better serve the franchise than continuing the drama.  At least Simmons / Paul hope so.

He wasn’t in MVP form when he arrived in Houston 30 pounds overweight, acting as a malcontent on and off the court. Yeah, sure he showed up to collect a pay check and the team eventually had to tell him to just stay home until they could work out a trade.

I don't think Simmons has the personality to make himself an actual distraction.  Now what he can do is put forth minimal effort on defense which would make him an on-court negative.

The Sixers fans are going to eviscerate if he does end up playing.

Harden's 1st 3 games in Houston he was AWESOME.  He missed game 4 and then tanked the last 5 he played.  He thought if showed up and gave maximum effort, the team would trade him, when it became apparent (to him) they weren't going to trade him that is when he tanked.

And when I say AWESOME, I mean it.

37 ppg, 11 apg, 5.3 rpg, 45.5% from 3, 88.9% from the line and he even threw in a steal a game.

Harden started off last year on fire before he tanked to get what he wanted (and in his tanking he still averaged 10 apg and 5 rpg - he just stopped hitting shots).

The numbers Harden put up for Houston weren't that much different for what he did for Brooklyn.  Harden played his last game with Houston on 1/12 and then he was traded to Brooklyn on 1/13.  So they didn't sit him because he was a distraction or even while they finalized the trade.  He played right up until the trade.

“They haven’t made that decision yet, maybe they have made it within the hour, or maybe they’ll make it sometime today or tomorrow, but the situation has regressed to such a degree that as of right now the Houston Rockets are contemplating as to whether or not they’re going to let James Harden just stay home until they find a suitable trade in order to move him out of there.”

Rockets coach Stephen Silas later told reporters that Harden was kept out of practice on Wednesday.

“We felt that it was best for the group and best for James not to come to practice,” the coach said.

Silas added: “There has to be some sort of resolution, whether it’s a complete buy-in at some level or some other way to get it taken care of.”

also believe harden trashed his teammates to a degree in his final press conference in houston. I don't think there was any chance he was going back in the locker room after that.

he was traded like 2 hours after that article came out.  They already were well into working out the final pieces of the trade and finding the other teams, etc.  He missed 0 games.

Where did anyone say that he missed games? The point is that he became a huge distraction on and off the court to the point where the coach told him to not even come to practice. Houston didn’t want to trade him, just like Philly states that they don’t want to move Simmons, but at the end of the day it will happen since the players run the league.

No the coach told him not to come to practice because they were trading him later that day and they didn't want him to get hurt.  That happens all of the time when trades are imminent.

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
I hope Simmons works on his shot and proves philly wrong. His name has been in trade rumors forever but so has Smarts but when doc said it early in the year he did not have to shoot to be effective then throws him under the bus when he choked as a coach again. I don't blame Ben for wanting to leave. I think a trade will come shortly if Ben show some suitors he worked on his game. If he does not show that to other teams Philly will have to settle for Kevin Love/Sexton, John Wall or Andrew Wiggins.

Are you saying you think it is possible that his final press conference where he said his teammates were not good enough had nothing to do with the trade happening right after? Seems like a fairly wild coincidence. I think that is where he crossed the line and they just accepted the best offer at that point.
