pre game interview with Scal steven's claims "all yr. we've preached we're an attack the basket team... drive to the basket, get lay ups... 3's are the last option".
forget this season for a sec. but anyone watching this team since steven's got here knows that this team has never been a "get lay ups" team.
now back to this team specifically, anyone watching this team this season knows for a fact that simply isn't true. watch the replay of this Denver game, watch our tendencies our 1st thought is to get a guy a jump shot, we don't run pick n' roll's we run pick n' pops.
so are we to believe the players are just doing what they want out there? if that's the case then he really needs to go.
if this team is a "get lay ups" team they certainly don't look like a team that practices doing so, on the rare occasion we do go to the basket we don't look like we've been there before because we throw up some pretty weak flip shots that barely look like they'll make it above the rim.
if this team is a "get lay ups" team we certainly don't recognize the opportunities to drive to the basket.
if this team is a "get lay ups" team when the game was pretty much over with like 2-3 mins left but still had a miracle shot and we finally played with some urgency we came up with a steal kyrie had the ball and everyone ran to the 3 pt line and kyrie looked defeated like you guys are effin kiddin me...
and that right there is what this team and steven's has not learned - the jump shot/3's are great when you have momentum but trying to get back in the game shooting jump shots does the exact opposite.
i'm so disgusted.
other observations:
morris is a slug and should never complain to the young guys about defensive rotations with all the ones he misses.
it's a shame baynes is being wasted on this team. that guy has some of the best defensive positioning on the team... he changed the game when he came in.
kyrie had one really awful possession in the 1st qrtr.
we need to practice shooting 3's if we're going to continue being a "get lay ups" team.
