A couple thoughts from the "Celtics offered Mikki Moore a contract!" thread:
1. I'm on board with going after Moore (and signing him if it happens). Length and a jump shot are very valuable assets that are needed on this team.
2. I'd still make a run at Smith if he pops free. This team would still be lacking a 6th or 7th man. Smith could fill that role as he is a solid 2 way player.
3. The Celtics had a very bad off season. A championship caliber team shouldn't carry 4 projects (POB, Walker, Giddens, Pruitt), and 3 backup PFs (Baby, Powe, Scal). By the time the Posey talks fell through there wasn't much left to choose from in the market. But, the summer of 08 didn't have anywhere near the level of talent as the summer of 09 and 10 have (even on the MLE level). So i can understand The C's playing things conservatively (I dont mean cheaply though - they did fork over $5 million for House and TA). ...But there were other cheap options out there that we failed to get. I honestly believe the C's are targeting the better free agent classes of 09 and 10; and thus settled for a bad to mediocre offseason in 08.
