Post by: krook on February 13, 2013, 04:25:13 AM
Phoenix still working to get Al Jefferson but Utah are not willing to take Gortat due to Enes Kanter, the Suns are looking for a 3rd team that will take Gortat and give Utah a PG/SF in return

In a heartbeat, but there is a small problem.

Our SF's are two of the most important players on our team right now, and we don't have a PG.

:(

I'm sure Phoenix would settle for Melo. Dont know if any of those teams want Bass though.

If Utah would pull the trigger for Green, the Celtics pull the trigger.

A backup SF for the Celtics.

But then again, without a source, I will think of this as a bogus rumor.

Won't Pheonix have cap room to sign him though? Or did they blow that already.

Do they really need to give up much aside from Gortat (they have some expiring deals, which will reach the salary)?  I mean really, everyone knows Jefferson is leaving Utah, what else do they have to give up to get him?

If Utah does really want a third team, I'd probably consider something like this, which I think might work for all 3 teams

BOS - Gortat, Dudley, Marvin Williams
UTA - Pierce
PHO - Jefferson, Melo

Minor pieces can be added as necessary.

Not good.

If the team is going after Gortat to improve the team this season, there is no reason to give up Pierce.

And no reason to bring back Williams.  He is basically Green clone.

If it is only Gortat, then they don't really have the framework for a deal yet by the sounds of it. They are just interested in Big Al but are nowhere on a deal. If there are other pieces in the mix that Utah wants from Phoenix, then the Suns are on their way.

Gortat is a fair return for Big Al. Utah just have no interest in him by the sounds of it (as one would expect given their big man situation).

Good for them? Enough evidence suggests even if they do get him...they'll still stuck

Yeah, it's a terrible idea. Phoenix is such a badly run organization.

Would love to get in on the Gortat wagon... But like someone else pointed out we have no PG or SF to offer in a deal unless we are looking to trade Green or Pierce and I dont see that happening.

Denver Mozgov and Chandler
Get Lee and Bass

Utah sends Al Jefferson

Yes, but those are the types of things you have to do get a center like Gortat and a solid wing like Dudley (who has an amazing contract).

Im not giving up Pierce for Gortat. Gortat makes us buyers in the market and gives us a better chance at winning this year. Without Pierce, trading for Gortat is less appealing.

I tried to fool around with the trade machine but came up empty. Bass and Bradley to the Jazz works but the Jazz are getting rid of Jefferson to make room for Kanter and Favors. They aren't going to want Bass in there taking up space.

Maybe Boston sends a pick to Utah, as far as denver they could use both bass and lee off the bench a lot more and better than they use mozgov and chandler

I would rather have Chandler than Courtney Lee. Bass is an upgrade over Mozgov (right now) but since the don't play Mozgov Bass would probably cut into the minutes of McGee, Galanari, and Faried who are all better than him.

Gortat is a young center on a very reasonable deal that helps Boston long term.  If you can trade a veteran who is a year or two from retiring that has a big contract from a team that is not going to win the title, then you have to do it.  In the trade I proposed, Boston also got Dudley, who is more than adequate filling in for Pierce.

Gortat is 28 years old.  This is not a move towards the future.  This is about the now and near future.

Pierce is also about the now.

No way the Celtics should make that move.  If they were getting Jefferson or Favors and Kanter, maybe.  But not Gortat.
