My favorite lyricist of all-time is One Be Lo of Binary Star (a.k.a One Many Army) if you aren't familiar you better read up because your sleeping on one of the best emcee's ever.

Check how unreal the rhyming, wordplay, and metaphors are in Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. like:

"It aint all about economy
so the fact that these wack emcees is making G's don't bother me
Honestly, my number one policy is quality
never sell my soul is my philosophy
High velocity, lyrics like Nastradamus make a prophecy
I told you cats a long time a go it ain't no stoppin' me" - "Reality Check" by Binary Star

and

"a whack emcee is something i could never be
that's like growing dreadlocks while you taking chemotherapy
theoretically pen and paper is the recipe
alphabetically i'm coming after you like the letter v" - "K.G.B" by Binary Star

I just showed ya'll about 8 lines which are all sicker than anything 'Lil Wayne will ever spit in his life. don't sleep.

One guy not on this list is Atmosphere (Slug), this guy has been slaying it for a long time, and is (IMO) the greatest mind in the game today.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaNlayKc25s

Mos Def, Common, Talib, Ozomatli (by way of Charlie Tuna), K'naan (fantastic), Outkast

People who are better than anyone on the original list:

1. Pac (best ever)
2. Dre
3. Tribe Called Quest
4. Naughty by Nature
5. Biggie

BOSTON:
Best band out of Boston by a mile: The Foundation Movement (these guys put on an amazing live show, too).  Also from Boston: ASN (Fantastic, keep your eyes peeled for this guy) & Terminology (gotta check out "Watch How It Go Down", on of the best singles I've heard in years!).  Not my favorite, but gotta through ut Audibe Maineframe too (live band + hip-hop = awesome).

Jedi Mind Tricks is an embarrassment.  You wanna put them on a "Greatest of All Time" list?  Everyone in this thread, I want you to read he following lyrics and repeat after me:

This is NOT hip hop:

The Best Rapper from Boston now is: SLAINE

The Best Rapper from the suburbs of Boston: Mic Stylz

The Best Conscious Rapper: Talib Kweli

The Best Political Rapper: Immortal Technique

The Best Rap Producer: RZA

The Best Rap group: Jedi Mind Trick

The Best Rap group ever: Wu Tang Clan

The Best Rapper: Jay-Z

The Best Rapper ever: Notorious

I was feelin your list until i saw best rap group and best rapper.  I'm a huge fan of Jedi, but i can't put them down as the BEST rap group - jus allah isn't even with them anymore and he was definitely the best in that group after vinnie paz.  They can't touch A Tribe Called Quest, Cypress Hill, or Bone Thugs (my vote).

Sorry but i'll take nas 10 times out of 10 over j-z, it's not even close in my opinion.

Jay-Z has the best resume any rapper who has ever lived and he's sick with it too. If where just going by rap I'd say Nas peaked higher than Jay-Z winning the battle with illmatic but losing the war with Career.

Remember Jay-Z is Nas's boss.

Jedi is the essence of hip-hop right now with no cooperate sponsorship.

  • Eagerly Awaiting the Next Fantasy Draft
I'm a rap fan and I've found that getting new rap music in Boston can be difficult. I listen to jam'n from time to time and wers (88.9) most weeknights after 10. I'll watch rap videos and listen to a rapper when a friend recommends him (Wale is a great rapper from DC that not that many people have heard about). Any tips for me on how to stay current?
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I'd say Slaine is the King of Boston Rap right now... You might recognize him as the drug dealer in "Gone Baby Gone".

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Best rapper = oxymoron

I wish really that you'd tell us all how you got to that conclusion. Maybe share your knowledge of the art form, and tell us why you think that there are no good rappers?

like that is always lethal." - Evan 'The God' Turner

Hard to chose between Slim Shady, Marshall Mathers, and Eminem.

SEE WHAT I DID THERE?
