Philadelphia trades:  Iguodala, Brand

Washington trades:  Arenas, Nick Young, Josh Howard

Why Washington does it:  I think it makes most sense for Washington.  They get rid of the head case Arenas who plays at a position they already have their franchise player playing.  Hinrich becomes the starting 2, Iggy the starting 3, Brand the starting 4, McGee the starting 5.  I think this is unquestionably a better overall starting lineup.  The only thing they are lacking now is at least 25 minutes of quality bench depth at 1 and 2.  They could consolidate this into just needing a SG by having Hinrich run point when Wall is sitting.

Why Philly does it:  Not sure if they even do, this is the side I think needs tweaking.  They give away the best player in the deal and take back the worst contract.  Also, they lose their starting PF without a great option to step in.  What about if they got Blatche or Yi back also?  Is Blatche too much for Washington to give up?  They'd have quite a few solid young prospects stockpiling a la Celtics '07 with a likely lottery pick coming in '11.   Philly would be starting:  Holiday, Gilbert, Turner, Blatche, Hawes.  Josh Howard would be thrown as a potential trade piece to a contender for yet another possible prospect.

OK, now I'm going to start rambling that I thought of Howard as a trade piece.  I'd really like to have him on our team for some depth in the playoffs as a player to defend Lebron when Pierce rests who can also spread the floor.  Could we become involved in this trade somehow?  Does either team have interest in.... Semih?

OK, time to let you all ramble!  Any foundation here?  Any third teams that would want to get in on some pieces here and have something that Philly would want?

Why does Philly want to take back the worst contract on a player that has shown he is incapable of staying on the court?

Philly should wait and see if they can help Melo get to NY.

Yup.

Iggy and Randolph coming back to Denver, Melo to NY, and Gallinari/Curry to Philly.

Yeah Philly isnt going to trade Elton and Iggy without getting some mega cap relief in return. Arenas certainly doesnt fit that role for them. They are entering a second, or maybe even third rebuilding period here soon.

Actually the money works there.

Why would Denver take Iggy back and no draft pick for Melo? If they're trading Melo they're blowing the whole thing up.

THat makes a lot of sense, and I'd be inclined to agree with it. Taking back Gallinari/Curry and seeing if NY can get Houston to offer up their 2 picks in the 2011 draft for Anthony Randolph and Wilson Chandler makes more sense.

But if Denver's management is holding onto some perverse notion that they're still a contender, taking back Iggy and a potentially explosive PF in Randolph is a good trade.

I bet its because realgm doesn't factor in samuel dalembert's trade execption.

Otherwise Gallo+Curry at 15 combined is too much for Iggy's 12.

Yeah I can see Denver talking themselves into that sort of mindset.

I'm just in the mode that Denver either needs to blow it up, I don't think they can talk Melo into staying. Shuffling the deck chairs is always an option though....

Well Philly might consider that if you included both draft picks, but I'm not sure Wash would even want to put Iggy and Brand around Wall.

It's sort of the CLE - get "All Stars" around Lebron, without a real long term plan approach.

At this point, if Im Denver I am going to take whatever i can get for Melo rather than have him walk at the end of the season cause we all know if he isnt traded by the deadline he is walking himself to New York.

lol..yeah I agree completely that it doesn't make sense for Denver from an outside perspective, but we've seen teams go that route before.

It's funny though because we could say "Well, they can either blow it up or do something completely stupid that sets them back a few more years capwise and is ultimately catastrophic for the franchise.", and we'd be just as sincere as "well there is always that option of trying to contend right away."
