7-0 thrashing at the hands of the champs on opening night.

Should be a fun season. ::)

Just an embarrassing showing. This game was over after 1 minute and 47 seconds into the game and only got worse from there.

Makes me wonder what in the world they were doing in training camp. Even the absolute worst teams in the NHL don't suffer many of these types of losses, and the Bruins are supposed to be a playoff team. *channels Allen Iverson*

Bruins on fire lately (bit of luck in this stretch), great road win against Vegas.

Need Bruins to win to complete the quad!

Any chance we get Boston vs LA Stanley Cup Finals? Gotta #BeatLA again!

The Bruins have picked up at least a point in 18 straight games.  They haven't lost a game in regulation since January 19.  That's pretty remarkable.  Even more remarkably, they're still 15 points (!!) behind Tampa Bay for first in the division / conference / NHL.

Yeah, I'm not sure what's more amazing—Boston's point streak (and being second in the NHL) or Tampa Bay's season. And the Bruins have been without Pastrnak the last couple weeks, which makes their streak even more impressive.

BRUINS PLAYOFF SCHEDULE FIRST ROUND

#Leafs-Bruins first-round schedule:
Game 1 @ BOS, Thursday 7 pm
Game 2 @ BOS, Saturday 8 pm
Game 3 @ TOR, Mon Apr 15, 7 pm
Game 4 @ TOR, Wed Apr 17, 7 pm
Game 5 @ BOS, Friday, Apr 19 TBD
Game 6 @ TOR, Sunday, Apr 21 TBD
Game 7 @ BOS, Tuesday Apr 23 TBD

(All Times In EST)

I don't think they've announced TV networks for each game yet but they will soon?

Another thing to look at, is that a Bruins game at 8 PM this Saturday likely means the Celtics are either playing early Saturday or sometime on Sunday (assuming they wrap up the 4th seed). IIRC last year it was a similar scenario and we played the early game on Sunday.

Welp, one game in and the Bruins have already lost home ice. Great work, fellas.

P.S.: I still hate the NHL playoff format. The Bruins are the second-best team in the East, so they shouldn't be playing the No. 5 team in the first round.

The Bruins should be able to beat the #5 ranked team, but I seriously don't know how they came up with that cockamamie format. The same thing (even worse) happened last year, too.

I guess the Bruins' season is over then. Lose home-court advantage like that. Winning in Toronto may be tough for them.

Fantastic bounceback win by the B's! They looked like a different team tonight  ;D

Rask was amazing. Lots of physical play and hits by our team. And we were a lot crisper with our passes and didn't turn the puck over much. Backes came in and helped set the tone with his physical play, and DeBrusk was great too.

And screw Kadri  >:(

I hope that clown gets suspended the rest of this series. I don't think he does to be honest, but he definitely deserves at least 3 games for what he did on the ice. Also, I loved how he apparently suffered a "severe injury" after the knee-to-knee contact with DeBrusk (which was inadvertent), but then magically came back 100% in the 3rd period. Moron.

Doors are opening for Bruins. They have to take control and beat Toronto without Kadri, have avoided Tampa but have to play a good Columbus team, which they should have a good chance to beat. Bruins would have fallen hard to the Lightning.

They are as good or better a team as any team left in the playoffs. They could get a Cup this year.......providing they come back and beat Toronto.

I'm really disappointed that they lost home-ice advantage—and it took them only one game to do so!

Bruins must finish their checks

Also they need to split Marchand and Bergeron

Drop Chara to third pairing... too slow

Why did they resign him to another season?

I was switching to the Bruins and Sox during timeouts. In the 3rd period, the Bruins were cruising up 5-2 with under 10 minutes to go. When I switched back with 5 minutes left, they were only up 5-4! They did a nice job grinding out the rest of the game and got the lame empty netter with 2 seconds left.

With the series tied at 2-2, Bruins fans can breathe a small sigh of relief. Hopefully they will be able to finish them off and get to the next round.

Yep, that was a MASSIVE win by the B's. I honestly don't think they could have come back in the series if they fell behind 3-1.

As for the Red Sox... yikes. They've truly been awful to start the year. Just got swept to the Yankees too who basically are injured and are trotting out their B-team...  :(

Red Sox keep finding ways to lose. It really sucks too because I am a big Sox and baseball fan, but it's getting absolutely embarrassing.

Tonight, the bullpen apparently blew it (thank God the Celts were playing so I didn't have to see that mess.)

It sucks because the Lightning are eliminated so the road to the Cup could be easier. Yet we've looked flat in about 3 of the 5 games so far (and lost all those 3). We're killing ourselves with dumb play.

It'd be real shocking if both TB and BOS were eliminated in the first round. I think most people had either of these two winning it all.

The Bruins are such a perennially under-achieving bunch.  It gets so tiring seeing them blow it in the playoffs.  I appreciate the short run they had winning a cup and coming close once, but other than those years, it's been decades of garbage.

Bring on Columbus!

Game 1 on Thursday night.

It could go one of two ways. Blue Jackets are rusty from over a week off while we're still in regular game shape, or they'll be well rested and come out with a lot more energy than our group who may understandably be a bit nicked up and tired.

Columbus is s real good team but the Bruins beat probably the second best team in the East in Toronto.  Boston should make it to the Cup Finals now.

B's in 6 or 7.

What a comeback to win Game 6 and 7. Some LeBron-type playoff comeback.

Went to bed last night when it was still 2-1 and fully expected to wake up this morning and see the Bruins had blown it. Kudos to them for holding on and winning the series. Beating Toronto is always sweet.

I'd be thrilled to see them win it all, and maybe/hopefully they will, but part of me will just never have faith in this team. Too many years of disappointment to ever fully trust this team to not find a way to blow it at some point along the way.

Off-topic, but that was a rough 5-minute major against Vegas.  Still, under no circumstances can you give up four goals on one power play.

Yeah that third period was insane. And Vegas actually managed to tie it at 4-4 with just 47 seconds left.

But yeah, giving up a max of 2 goals in a 5-minute major I can see. But 4?? Yikes. Not good.

Here's what the tentative 2nd round schedule looks like:

Game 1: Thursday, April 25, 7 p.m. ET @ Boston (NBC Sports Network)
Game 2: Saturday, April 27, TBD @ Boston
Game 3 (IF Washington advances): Monday, April 29, TBD @ Columbus
Game 3 (IF Carolina advances): Tuesday, April 30, TBD @ Columbus
Game 4: Thursday, May 2, TBD @ Columbus
*Game 5: Saturday, May 4, TBD @ Boston (if necessary)
*Game 6: Monday, May 6, TBD @ Columbus (if necessary)
*Game 7: Wednesday, May 8, TBD @ Boston (if necessary)

Game 1 is the only game that's officially set with TV network, date and time all announced already. The times and TV networks for the rest of the games will probably be officially announced AFTER the Hurricanes-Capitals play Game 7 tonight. All the dates are pretty much figured out though except for Game 3 (which depends on what happens in the CAR-WAS series).

Yeah it's kind of our fault. We dominated the first two periods and only entered the 3rd with a 1-0 lead. Blue Jackets were going to tie it at some point. I can't really blame anyone for that 2nd Columbus goal because that was just a crazy deflection. Unlucky, but it is what it is.

Tough loss, but Rask deserves a ton of praise. Only reason this game even went to an overtime, let alone 2OT.

I’m still feeling good about the series. I predicted BOS in 6 and still think so. For some reason we seem to play better on the road than home lol. Our main guys tonight all played sluggish and the team in general had way too many costly turnovers.

Keep in mind that since the playoffs started, the Bruins have played EVERY other day and that includes overtime games the last 2 times. Hopefully having two days off here can re-energize them.

There was a lot of panic out there on offense tonight, undermining a strong defensive effort. Guys couldn't keep the puck on their sticks. Eventually the opposition put one through.

Although that was an ugly game as well. Marchand and Pastrnak seriously need to figure it out. That was dreadful from both of them tonight and even in Game 3. (Yes, Pastrnak scored 1 tonight but if not for Rask he would have also allowed like 3 goals with those extremely dumb turnovers)

Honestly, last night may have been Rask's career best playoff performance. Columbus couldn't get anything past him except for that lone goal that never should have counted in the first place had the play been blown dead. Rask totally kept the B's afloat while they were getting dominated from about midway through the 1st until about midway through the 3rd.

Boston has to get better with the sloppy play and turnovers, though. So many gifted chances that if it weren't for Rask standing on his head could have put Boston in an insurmountable hole.

Yeah, that was a sensational shutout by Rask last night  ;)

I just hope these guys stay alert and show up for Game 5 at home. Even last series if you recall, they won Game 4 at Toronto to even up the series, but then came out flat and lost Game 5 at home to fall behind 3-2 in the series.

We came back to win obviously, but I don't know if we're capable of doing it again especially with how tough a place Columbus is to play. I'd hate to be facing elimination on the road there.

Got to come out strong in Game 5 as well. Marchand and Pastrnak in particular need to do better. Pasta scored a goal but if not for Rask and the great defense, he also would have given up like 3-4 goals off his awful turnovers.

this year is a golden opportunity for the Bs. i thought TB would dominate the playoffs and push out the Bruins. but when they folded in round one, i became VERY hopeful that the bruins might win the stanley cup this year.

and then they go and almost blow the series against toronto and now this one. sigh. they don't make things easy.

but if marchard and especially pastrnak finally play well, they will win the series. the bruins are the better team.

And boy Pastrnak overall has stepped up BIG time these last few games. Rask was splendid as well (some of those goals tonight were not his fault and he’s the reason the Jackets didn’t score 5-6 goals in the first two periods)

It's really great to see the B's top line producing. And these are the type of performances from Rask that a team needs to advance in the playoffs.   Of course, I've been fooled by the B's before into thinking they were the team to beat.  But it's actually starting to look like they may very well be, at least in the eastern conference.

It's actually just crazy that we are still in the position to win 3 or 4 titles in all four major sports within a year. There are fans who've never seen a title in their lifetime and some who have never even seen their favorite franchises in a playoffs. I'm going to keep the faith even with the C's. The B's were down 3-2 in their previous series and came back to win and advance. The Pats and Red Sox dealt with some tough moments during their postseason runs that many (even their own fanbases) thought would doom them, but persevered and ended up winning it all. But yeah, they [Celtics] HAVE to win Game 4 tomorrow night.

Nope.  He means New England of the old WHL.  I have a banner somewhere!

If B's advance I wonder how much they discuss that this would be, based on the original franchises of Boston Bruins vs New England Whalers.

Yes, I did go to New England Whalers games in the old Garden.

Yup. Went to New England Whalers games when they played in the old Garden. I remember Gerry Cheevers was playing for the other team, so it was a big draw that night just to see him because he was still a great goalie.

I was maybe, 8 or 9 years old so, sometime around 1973 or 1974, this occurred.

Well, I think I'd rather have the suspension than a 5 minute major and a game misconduct.  That could have been game-changing at that time.

In the moment, though, I thought 2 minutes was enough.  He made contact with the head, but I thought he held up on it.  There could have been a ton more follow through.

Similar to how David Price of the Red Sox got the "monkey off his back" last October (consistently ridiculed before this past October for consistent playoff choking), Rask could be doing the same in April-May and hopefully some of June.

I think this team smells blood. Wouldn’t be surprised if we swept Thursday night.

And here’s something interesting:

- Islanders sweep Penguins
- Hurricanes sweep Islanders
- Bruins maybe sweep the Hurricanes(??)

Although by that pattern if we do sweep it would probably mean we get swept by the Sharks or Blues in the Finals   :P

Bruins might be smart to offer some bonus money to all the Providence Bruins to come back for to play a couple exhibition games against the big league team to keep them from getting lax.

Probably against the rules but they are going to have to do something to try to stay sharp.

3rd Cup Finals in 9 years. They would be the team with the most Cup appearances in those 9 years. If they win they will tie Pittsburgh, Los Angeles and Chicago for most Stanley Cups in those 9 years with 2 each. That's wild. 4 teams with 2 Cup wins each over 9 years.

Lol....I don't know you Sparz but this sounds like something my millennial sons would say. Lol. Yeah, it's was all the way back in 2017 when Boston had their last team win a title before the Red Sox started this title run for Boston.

Dang, I remember all those years after 1986 until the Pat's won in 2002. 16 years. Not one title. That sucked.

But all my kids know is 6 Super Bowl wins in 9 Super Bowl appearances, 4 World Series in 4 trips there, 1 NBA Title in 2 trips to the NBA Finals and 3 appearances in the Stanley Cup Finals with 1 Cup and another one possible.

Possibly 13 championships in 17 years, 12 guaranteed.

Boston's "big boys" really stepped up tonight—not that they've played bad, because they haven't, but I know that opponents focus on slowing them, but tonight the Canes couldn't do anything to slow them tonight.

This is what a true leader is all about. Chara is a great captain

Quote
So it wasn’t a shock that the 42-year-old Chara reiterated that he doesn’t like the term “rookie” that tends to separate the first-year players from everybody else within the B’s dressing room, when he was asked about lending his learned experience to help younger D-men like Charlie McAvoy and Brandon Carlo.

What does history say about B's long layoff?
“If I can make some small part of it by doing what I love to do and doing it every day… if that can help them to see that, then I’ll be more than happy for them to see that, and maybe learn something. If I can help them in any way I’d love to,” said Chara, while addressing the media following Monday’s practice at Warrior Ice Arena. “Age doesn’t really separate the conversations or the personalities. I’ve been saying that for a long time.

“We are treating everybody the same way no matter if somebody is 18, or 40, or somebody has 1,000 games or is playing in their first game. We treat everybody with respect in the same way as everybody else in the locker room. I’ve said it many times. Since a very young age, I didn’t like the separation in a team between young players and older players, [or] players who have accomplished something or players that are just coming into the league. I don’t like to use the word ‘rookie.’ They are our teammates. I just don’t like to separate. I don’t think that’s the right thing to do. Once you’re a team, you’re a team regardless of the age, or accomplishments. We have to treat each other with respect and the same way.”

Bruins vs Blues has the potential to go 7

in many ways, Blues are a reflection of the Bruins.   They have mix of everything. Size, skill, speed, strong goaltenting....vet leadership

Bruins main advantage is home ice

and ultimately this is what could be the difference maker

I think it's what we needed after the way the Celts season ended.  For whatever reason, when the Cs gave up the lead to Milwaukee, they folded.  The Bruins, on the other hand, seem to hit another gear when they take a couple of punches from the other team.

Yep very true.

Even though those Celtics teams in 2016 and 2017 might not have had as much talent as the 2018-2019 squad, they still brought it every game. Never backed down and played with heart to the end. Enjoyable to watch and the 2017-2018 team went deep because of it too. We’ve seen it with the 2018 Red Sox and even 2019 Patriots who were sluggish in the regular season but came together for the SB run.

Unfortunately, this year’s Celtics team just seemed to have many egos and didn’t have that fight in them.

What really defined it was Hondo passing away and Ainge suffering a health scare. You’d think the C’s would play with more fight and energy, but nope, they went ahead and lost BOTH home games and then the series in pathetic fashion. Sad.

I saw nothing in this game tonight that would have me believe this series is going to end any differently than the way the Carolina series went down. 4-0. Sweep.

If that happens, what would be more impressive:

A. This current Warriors dynasty, if they win it this year

Or

B. The Boston run of 3 Titles in a row by 3 of the 4 major sports(NFL, NBA, MLB)

I gotta go with B, especially when you consider the dominance of the run in the playoffs by each team(again, in this scenario the B's win the Cup in 4 straight, winning their last 11 straight playoff games to win the cup. Sox went 11-3 in the playoffs, beating the 3 other best teams in baseball the Yanks, Astros and Dodgers. The Pat's went 3-0 in post season beating a 13-4 team then a 13-4 team then a 15-3 team.).

I don't think Blais was trying to go to the head. Grzelcyk kinda changed body direction which opened him up to the hit on the head.

2 minutes was the right call.

We do look a bit behind eight ball tonight. Rask has us in this. Their goaltender woke up as well but we are getting out hustled and outshot and outhit tonight. All we need is one now though!

The Blues are playing much better, with more energy and are a lot more physical than us. Our first line has also looked like garbage tonight.

With that said, we’re somehow still tied 2-2 heading into OT. Rask has been sensational again. Hopefully we can get one good push early and score a goal soon.

I am throwing things

Reverse of Game 1 - Bruins came out scoring, then after our 2nd goal, Blues were the aggressor, more physical, sharper passing and most of all quicker to the puck allllllllllll night long. Marchand was awful. Golden opportunity to win the Cup this year.

Please explain to me why a team (Bruins) only has 5 defenseman available for rotations when one is injured in the game. For example, in football, if you have, say, a 6-man rotation on your defensive line and a defensive end gets hurt, you still have reserves to continue with a 6-man rotation ??

I love the Bruins, but I am no hockey expert.

It's just roster size.  You only get 20 players per game, or more specifically, 18 skaters and two goalies.

Those are divided up as 12 offensive players (4 lines, 3 players per line) and 6 defensemen (3 pairings of 2).

One of the worst OTs I’ve watched. They looked flat starting in the 2nd period and it continued that way for the remainder of the night.

We need a lot more from the 1st line moving forward. You can’t expect to win a Cup being carried by your 4th like.

Got it. Thanks.

So is this a significant problem for the Bruins going forward ?  The game commentators talked on and on about what a disadvantage this put Boston at during Game 2. Did it contribute to our inability to reduce the pressure St. louis put on tonite ? They easily outshot us and kept the puck in our end for long possessions.

Bruins looked pretty bad most of the game, but especially in OT, when the Blues put on tons of pressure, CONSTANT pressure, and had the Bs on their heels the whole time. So many Bruins passes (throughout the game) were bad, like the players were telegraphing them, and they kept getting deflected, and lots of times Bs players tried to hit the puck but got only a piece of it and the puck just sort of wobbled, like a wounded duck, out into open ice, where the Blues would pick it up and start an attack. And yeah, the top line did terrible, especially Marchand; those guys really need to get it in gear.

I don't think Blais was trying to go to the head. Grzelcyk kinda changed body direction which opened him up to the hit on the head.

2 minutes was the right call.

I think he went to unnatural side and his eyes zoomed in on his head. Watch it in slow motion. A hit on his right is where he was going but he changed and then connected to head intentionally. I predict a league review and one game suspension.

Looks like you were right. Sundqvist has been suspended for game 3.

Anyone who understands hockey knew this should have been a game misconduct penalty and a disqualification. Glad the league eventually got it right in the end.

TP - this was a really good prediction. Too bad it came at our expense. It was an especially laughable penalty as it came just before the questionable 4 minute double-minor on us. Killing 20% of the 3rd period, down a guy really didn't leave us with much ammunition in OT.

It definitely was the turning point for us losing that game.

I am excited to see how we rebound but not happy we are down our player due to concussion protocol. We have shown time and time again though, we can rebound from tough losses and tonight is the game we need to take.

Does anyone else stream games from nbc app and have endless issues with it? On desktop mac the commercials keep looping and I need to reboot over and over again. It is a legal stream as well so not sure why it is so buggy on a mac. On tablet it works but like watching it from pc to big screen tv instead and have not been able to figure out how to stream from tablet to tv yet(any knowledge how to stream live from ipad to tv?).

Apple TV 3rd generation or above allows you to mirror from an iphone or ipad to your tv. This is what I do for all Celtics games and other Boston games. You can get one for like $30 on ebay. I still use my xbox one for hulu, netflix, youtube, etc (these are also available on Apple TV), but the mirroring has been a lifesaver on Apple TV.

Phenomenal fightback and road effort by the B's. 2-1 and home ice advantage regained!!  ;D

It's been said often, but unlike the Celtics, the Bruins can get punched in the face but know how to fight back.  They played awful in Game 2 but came up with a monster Game 3 performance where everyone showed up, and on the road too! Basically took back some momentum in this series as a result.

They were down 2-1 and 3-2 to TOR and came back despite having Games 4 and 6 that series in Toronto. Down 2-1 to CBJ with a Game 4 on the road, and they came back.

Even the Red Sox and Patriots in their playoff runs dealt with some drama/adversity, also during games and series, but they responded and were relentless. Red Sox left Fenway tied 1-1 in the ALDS, momentum on NYY's side, and also fell behind 1-0 in the ALCS. Kept fighting and eventually won those series.

I agree. First was hardest for us and I expect a more settled response next two periods. Key is to get it back even and turn up our intensity. The refs are not calling anything so far so I expect a big, flagrant hit to lead something almost bench clearing. I hope we stay injury free this game...worried about that somewhat.

Boston's play this game, and this period in particular, has been disappointing. Blues just keep the energy high and keep peppering Rask, while the Bruins struggle to complete a pass.

I swear if felt like the entire period was in the Bruins defensive zone and of course STL broke through

Barely any offense from our group.

Pretty sure Rask felt like he was left behind on the battlefront during a war. At least if we win at home, we win the Cup but it is going to be a fight to the death.

Bruins need to defend home-court/ice in Game 5.

And celebrate their championship in St. Louis. They had their chance tonight and didn't take advantage. I wouldn't want to see the Blues for a Game 7 at home. They look tough.

I still think we can win, but yeah we HAVE to win Game 5 and take care of business in home ice.

Also, the top line and PP unit needs to wake up ASAP. When they are playing at a high level, the team really does look invincible out there. It's a 2-2 series because they clearly didn't show up in 2 of the 4 games.

Losing Chara is a huge blow to the Bruins already depleted defense corps. Rask is really going to have his hands full now.

St Louis is clearly a worthy opponent. I can't say I'm too optimistic about our chances in this series now.

if the B's take the cup, it leaves the C's as the only Boston team not to take their league's title this past season.  Every Celtic player should be made to dwell on that in light of the fact they were considered the most likely Boston franchise to play for a title this past season.

Perhaps it'll be decided on that, but differently from how you think—perhaps it'll light a fire under the Bruins and serve as a focal point for a rally.

I know, I'm not usually positive like this. ;D And to be clear, I'm not feeling positive—I think they're gonna lose in 6—but how cool would it be if they rallied to win in 7?

But does feel like a lot of teams who faced a 3-2 deficit who won Game 6 would end up winning Game 7.

One problem: The Blues haven't actually won the Stanley Cup yet. The letter, as well as a few congratulatory advertisements, appeared in the digital edition of the newspaper hours before the team was scheduled to play Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Boston Bruins, leading the series 3-2.

The ad pages were visible in the subscribers' only E-edition of the paper and were removed. But not before more than a few readers noted them, and they hit social media.

Priceless! Feeling more confident after seeing that.

I am bit bummed though our player who was injured in that one game suspension that cost us game two is still out. I would like to see a change in rules on that. If you are suspended for illegal hit that results in injury, you should not be allowed to play until other player is. This is a big advantage they have gotten for multiple games in that hit to head. Does not seem fair.

Looking for an offensive spark. Defense hasn’t been the biggest issue.

Gotta give Cassidy a tip of the cap. He added Kuhlman to a line and it paid off big time. He said the team needed to use their speed and they have tremendously and stopped chasing the huge hits. Smart, smart hockey. Great job Bruce Cassidy.

How often have does a pulled goalie result in a goal for the team with the resulting extra attacker ?

Someone did research on this and this was what he found:

Quote
“During this period, the likelihood of one team scoring is markedly increased, since the trailing team has one extra offensive play and their net is un-guarded. The situation is quite different from an ordinary game situation, and so is take int account separately: when a goaltender is pulled and indication is made that the next interval is being played with an empty net. In the data being considered, a goaltender was pulled in 64% of games played. In 34% of those game a goal was scored with one net empty, and of those goals 30% were scored by the team that pulled their goaltender”

The results were published in Journal of Quantitative Analysis in Sports - Hockey Analytics

I am flying to Tampa on Wednesday afternoon and landing at 7:15. By the time I get to my hotel in St. Pete the puck will be dropping. The bar off the lobby better have the B's on. I think I will check in, throw the bags in the room and march right down to that bar. If they win, I am off to St Pete Beach. The bars along the beach are open until 3 and I will be celebrating hard.

So, touch wood, but this would be one of the more impressive Boston area championships of the 21st century so far.

Obviously that Pats game against the Falcons was just ridiculous, but winning two series by winning game 6 and game 7 - that's pretty crazy.

House hunting for a re-move back. I returned to Boston about 3 years ago to help my Dad take care of Mom. He has dementia and see had heart problems. She passed late last year and I told Dad if I am taking care of him, we are going to Florida. He was okay with that so going house hunting for a week.

Planned and booked it two months ago and tried to make sure I was traveling on a travel day for the NBA Finals, figuring I didn't want to miss any Celtic games if they made the Finals. But never took into consideration a game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final with the Bruins in it. Stupid me.

This reminds me a lot of Game 5. The Bruins are so amped up, they find themselves with great scoring chances, but they just don't have composure when finishing.

That coupled with a couple of chokes on the defensive end, and it seems like we might not win it tonight.

Binnington's been great. We've just got to actually capitalize on the chances, especially those rebounds that come out in the front of the net. Two shots had open nets but we shot it right on to his chest.

That sounds like the strategy the Celts adopted this year when things got tough.  "It's hard, so let's quit".

The Bruins are more resilient, and I think they'll win this.

Well, that's why nobody likes hockey. One team can totally dominate, but it doesn't really matter. It's even worse that the first was a total trash goal.
lol

Don't get me wrong, I watch games periodically throughout the year and never miss a playoff game; it's just the random nature of the sport that I think turns people off. Heck, the best regular season team of all-time just got swept in the first round. That's ridiculous.

This isn't over, but it is totally deflating. I agree, totally reminds me of game 5. Hopefully the Bs can get a couple by the rookie.

8 seconds left, are you kidding me, 8 seconds ?

Is this the 3d game this series that Binnington has come up big following a bad game ? We had 4-5 point blank chances and suddenly, this guy turns into Patrick Roy ??? After all that superb pressure, we give up 2 goals, just like that.

I think it's one of the more appealing aspects of hockey.  It's less predictable, and one player (the goalie) can change everything.  It makes for more compelling watching, much like the NCAA tournament.

Yep - And now a team that was in last place at mid-season, with an interim head coach and an inconsistent rookie goaltender playing in the Stanley Cup Final Game 7 stones the best offense in the playoffs - on power play point-blank shots, no less. Makes zero sense.

Which is why I have such a huge problem with the NCAA Basketball Champion many years - you often do not get the best team winning the title - Which is why I am one of the few people on the planet who prefers the old college football bowl system and voting for the national champ to any sort of playoff.

Part of the problem is, most of these shots are right at Binnington point blank.

They are passing the puck way too much instead of just putting it towards the net and who knows, maybe we can get a lucky deflection.

Passing instead of shooting is one key that has hurt Bruins in their playoff losses. Gotta get up on those skates and fire away !!

I cannot believe this is happening, especially after the Bruins offensive attack early on (though that has been a pattern for both teams this series).

No Gronkowski, they just released Austin Sefarian-Jenkins, and a 33-year-old Julian Edelman as your #1 guy. And picked up a bunch of apparently washed-up players like Watson and Thomas. The AFC is going to be tough this year. Jacksonville's got Nick Foles and that dangerous defense. Browns are a wild card. Chiefs are still solid. The rest of the AFC East seems to have upgraded. Ugh gonna be competitive.

The defense should look good though.

I don't actually think Watson is that washed, but that's just my personal opinion. I think he can give Brady a good 500yd option this season.
I should preface this by saying I'm very high on N'Keal Harry, and think he will be one of the OROY candidates. Going in I thought he was the best WR in the draft.

Game 7. Binnington was awesome. Rask sucked. Story of the game right there. Really bad time for Tuuka to have his worst game of the playoffs.

But there is plenty of blame to go around, especially on the top line. Heck, if that penalty is called in Game 5 are we even playing Game 7?

Just a real tough loss.

Ah, we cannot forget that the Celtics beat the Bucks in Game 7 in Round 1 last year! But barely. Ironically, back in the days when "Scary Terry" was a phenomenon and Tatum was taking flight.

But yes, I do miss the IT4-led Celtics. They were fun too but it just wasn't realistic.

I feel bad for him, but he didn't deserve the win. It was pretty clear to see what was going to happen if the Bs didn't score. Binnington was getting in a groove early taking fairly easy shot after easy shot, while Rask was standing around for 15+ minutes doing nothing. All of a sudden they attempt a shot from the blue line, Reilly gets a small piece of it, and it goes between Rask's legs. Totally inexcusable, but understandable because the Bruins were completely dominating the puck the entire period.

I think it really came down to who scored first. If only Binnington's shirt was a size smaller - that one puck earlier in the period that barely got stuck in his armpit would have slid through and Bruins would have been on the board first.

It's definitely shame and people should be upset, but hockey is so unpredictable. You just have to hope your team gets a lucky bounce here and there - it didn't happen for the Bruins last night. Congrats to the Blues and let's hope we can get back to the Finals again soon!
