This isn't easy for me, so I'm going to just rip the bandaid off and say this up front.
The time has come for CelticsBlog forums to split off from the parent site and become an independent site. This change will happen sometime in August but we need help (more on that below).
Please understand, this has nothing to do with any of you or even the forums itself. Long ago when I sold the blog to SBNation, they were gracious enough to keep the forums running, even though it was not part of their business plan, nor did they know much of anything about how to run a forums site. There's no business value to keeping the forums going because forums don't sell ads effectively. So the decision was finally made to pull the plug on them.
In talking this over with the staff, there seems like there's enough interest to move this to an independently run site but that will require a lot of logistics and probably a few people willing to take the lead on running it. I imagine it would require hosting fees (enough to cover the traffic that these forums generate) and some kind of forums software that everyone is comfortable using and customizing.
SBNation is willing to throw some tech support and even cover most of the transition costs. It is important to them to help out as much as needed. But in the long term it is going to be on the community to keep it going.
Members of the moderator staff are willing to help, but nobody has enough tech savvy to research and implement the changes necessary. So we need your help. Anyone that has experience running the tech side of a forum and is willing to help the transition to a new platform/server, please raise your hand and let us know ASAP. If nobody steps forward, there may not be a new home for these forums to move to.
Again, this is a sad day and I understand if people are frustrated by this decision. This is was purely due to a lack of resources (both financial and time). I hope you understand and accept my apology in advance.
-
it's about time, cuz i feel like the site was slowing down and always times out.
I do have some experience with maintaining sites (server side, I'm a system administrator for a web hosting company) but I am unsure if I am what you need? I am interested in knowing how other sites work just to gain more experience
-
I'd be willing to help out on the technical side, all the way up to hosting the site. I have a side company that was previously part of a SportRadar accelerator and could potentially be the entity behind it. My experience is not with forum sites per se but I am a VP of Engineering / software engineer willing to dig in.
Is there a good channel for digging into much more detail about what's available to us, required, etc?
-
Say it ain't so, Jeff!
Hmm.... need to think about what I can do to help. Not sure just yet.
-
:(
I myself am technologically inept, but I have faith in this blog!
-
As far as the tech side of things, I cannot help with that although I could be used for opinions on proposals to do that stuff and help with vetting if needed. As far as the marketing side/paying the bills/making money side, I would be willing to advise you on how to make that a reality where you can not only get by but perhaps use any proceeds for a worthy cause/charity. I am currently CMO/CGO for online company and have been involved with the online space since the mid 90's. Feel free to reach out to me for anything.
-
sad news :(
<---- technologically inept also
Hope everything works out
Worst case would like to see a Celticsblog reddit group page created. Better than extinction
-
@Jeff @BringToughnessBack I could set up a Slack channel to chat things over, or potentially jump on a phone call this weekend if we want to scramble.
My partner at Fanstreme also does marketing for the Clippers and may be helpful with sponsors.
-
byennie and manl_lui - thanks very much (I'm not assigning this to you but you are the first to offer tech support and if you want to take the lead, feel free - but others are welcome to join in and help)
setting up a Slack channel sounds like a great idea too - go for it
THANK YOU
-
Everyone here interested in contributing directly: please PM me your email address and I'll add you to a Slack channel/ chat. I can take lead on vetting some options, will have lots of questions about what SBNation can provide, etc, etc.
Suggest we pow-wow in more detail there and provide updates here.
-
NoooOoooo it's finally happening.
My number 1 Celtics source and entertainment....the great Celtics forums is migrating :'(
-
Just terrible news. If the front page had a better set up (no, Fan posts are not the answer), then it could be a pretty seamless transition. My fear is that if we set up a separate site just for forums, then that will eventually fall out of favor to many current CB users. Sucks having to start over from scratch (no post or TP count) on another site.
Personally, I always click on the main page and scroll for new/interesting articles before venturing into the forums, but the forums are by far my preferred form of Celtics (and everything else) news. I have very few friends, hate Facebook, and have almost no online presence besides this site. I get almost no enjoyment from being online besides occasionally going to Youtube.
It is obviously not Jeff's or anybody else's fault, but at least for me, this is going to be a major change (reduction) in how I browse the internet. CB forums have been automatic for me since like 2004.

My first thoughts here... hopefully there is an opportunity to import the archives and reclaim screen names. Also if SBNation would consider continuing to link to it.

A link would certainly lessen the blow...a LOT. Great idea! It would seem to make some sense for them as there would be the added traffic through SBNation. I imagine there would be a way to import all of the information from this site, but that would probably be a lot of tedious work.
The future of CB forums now sits on your shoulders, byennie - I hope you are up for the task ;) (of course, I am kidding - but it means a great deal to many of us here that you are willing to help!)
-
I am inept at tech stuff, but get so much value from the forum, would be willing to kick in some $$ to cover any initial set up costs for registration fees. Probably coordinate a venmo account with the person who ends up setting up new forum.
-
the big question: will our stars/TP carry over?
ha
The hope would be to just import the entire database over to a different site.
We run SMF (Simple Machines).
-
It's unfortunate that forums can't generate revenue sufficient to justify the cost of hosting them for a company like SBNation, despite the fact that the discussions in a place like this are 1000% better than what happens in a typical SBNation comment section. But it's also not terribly surprising.
-
Could we set up fund raising on here to keep it alive on this site? How much would it take? I would contribute if possible
-
I know you guys HAD to have ran through logistics with SBNation, but it's surprising to me they couldn't figure out a way to run an ad at the top of the site, or why that wouldn't be effective... I imagine a forum gets quite a bit of clicks.
If we could keep the "Forum" button at the top to redirect to the new forum, that would be great.
I will be glad when I don't have to wait 5 minutes for a page to load though.
-
this news ruined my day
-
I think a GoFundMe or similar would make sense to help the transition along, but definitely a few steps away when/ if a move is more imminent. Ultimately it has to be sustainable.
-
Someone go wake up Bob Day.
-
Someone go wake up Bob Day.
I’m working on it.
-
Hope we can keep the blog alive for many years to come. I planned to pass this down to my children and it may take years to convince any woman to make a mistake of that magnitude.
Like others, I'd be willing to make a donation as well.
-
i can do absolutely nothing to help in terms of technology. sorry.
however, Jeff, are you saying that celticsblog will become a pay site? or just that funds are needed to help the transition away from SB?
if the latter, someone let me know how much expected contributions will be.
good luck Jeff.
-
I'm thinking a little more in-depth poll will be useful: whether people plan to make the move, what they might be willing to contribute, what they'd like to see, etc.
Let me formulate something a little less off-the-cusp for that over the weekend, though.
IMO it should definitely not be a pay site, but donations to keep it running could play a role depending on how it shakes out.
-
I can do it.
Database can be imported to a new site. Just need to work out hosting. I have a hosting server but probably not enough bandwidth.
-
I know absolutely nothing about technology whatsoever.
If there's an issue with money, since enough cash can solve just about any issue, I'm more than happy to make an up-front contribution, pay a monthly membership fee, etc. If CelticsBlog goes away in all forms, I may have to, ya know, work during the day.
Suggestion (and this is going ruffle a few feathers, but we're at that point):
I know that everyone's personal resources are different, so a membership fee or donation may make the site inaccessible to some. There are, however, a few ways to raise money using the site, either with targeted advertising, banner ads or relevant affiliate links (e.g., StubHub, Seat Geek, etc.). Once the site is up, running and at least at break-even after costs, proceeds could be used to reimburse those who had donated or reduce membership fees.
It's not perfect, but I would happily deal with a daily pop-up ad, emailed link, etc. to keep the site going.
Mike
-
I would also be willing to contribute, but as far as sustainability, would it be possible to attract companies to advertise on the site? If so, I am not sure why SBNation couldn't do that, as well (as they do with the front page).
The forums have basically been running as their own site for several years now with no 'Latest Forum Topics' on the right hand side of the main page anymore and just a simple link to Forums. I suppose not much has to change on the usability of the site; it just sounds like SBNation wants nothing to do with it anymore. Hopefully a link will be possible.
-
people willing to help out should send a private message to byennie with your email address
thanks!
-
Dag, first the fat boys break up and now this... :-\
Thanks for all of your time and effort Jeff and everyone else throughout the years that's made this site a cool place to hang out and talk C's!
We will overcome...
-
It's truly Friday the 13th, guys.
-
I feel useless to help.
Offering a half decent brain.
Thanks for the great Celtic fiber up to this point.
When there is a will, there is a way!
-
Just when this forum was getting good, with all the Hillary Clinton/Benghazi/Trump/Russia/NATO threads.
-
As I only have a passing knowledge of the "guts" behind the curtain of technology, I wouldn't be much help on that front.
As others have said, As this moves forward, I hope we are kept in the loop. I would be more than willing to help in some form to get the site up and running. Gofundme would be interesting.
The Celticsblog forums have become one of my top 3 web sites visited, and easily my biggest sports addiction. I'm not willing to let it go down without a fight.
-
just so everyone is clear:
CelticsBlog.com (the blog) will continue as is.
The forums are being split off to run independently.
We'll definitely keep you updated on major developments and timeline when they become available.
-
Dear Mitch, if you're holding this letter you already know. The house has been boarded up. The doors. The windows. Everything. We're at the Comfort Inn. Room 112. I love you. Frank.

Jeff, unless SBNation lets you hang a redirect off the "forums" subdomain under celticsblog.com, you are likely going to need new domain name, even if only slightly different.
I would suggest that your highest priority task is: Start to try to snag a good replacement domain name.
With luck you can grab something related, like "celticsblogforums.com" or whatever.
Unfortunately the name-squatting services are unreal with their name coverage and it gets harder and harder to snag a good name without having to pay for it.

We’ve got that under control.
There won’t be “Celticsblog” in the name in all likelihood.

This was the only site worth visiting for the latest and greatest celtics news . With intellectual and great info . The std SBN formate is pretty lame . VERY LAME product for me.
I use the net. but have no clue what makes it work . Im doing good just to participate...LOl.
I hope there will a future place we can gather to exchange Celtics news and Ideas.
Celtics Bloggers ....if can 't use Celticsblog .
Anybody know Wyc ? Maybe he would want to save his greatest group of Celtics Fans ?
-
RIP CelticsBlog
Been a good run
Personally i’ve Been logging in here since the 03/04 season
-
This feels like 9-11 on the Celtics Blog :-[
-
Ugh...nooooo!!! Love this site...also im in 2 fantasy league on here
-
Whatever new thing comes out of this, I want in. This place is literally a hangout spot for me, and its sad to see coming to an end.
Thank you, Jeff, and to the moderators that kept it running. You guys have been great.
I'll see you guys in the new platform.

-
Dag, first the fat boys break up and now this... :-\
wait.... WHAT?!?
-
Would be sad to lose this blog. I watch it everyday and it's my most visited site on the web. I also would be willing to pay contribution to keep this blog running.
Tech guys (and or girls), good luck!
-
No place can match this blog on Celtics games night , all the cheering and crazinest is fun. If you can't benin the Garden ....Celtics bloging and watching is next best thing... :)
-
RIP CelticsBlog

This. With feeling. ;D
-
Are you setting a go fund me or an account we can donate too, to help. I don't have many computer skills that would help but I would be willing to through some dime your way.
Thanks a lot for running this site!
-
In the past 10 years, I've probably frequented this site more than any other on the interwebs. Sad. I'm definitely willing to help in any way I can.
-
Thanks, Jeff, for creating this site. I've visited it a lot over the years. There's been a lot of great conversation here. I've learned a lot about the Celtics, the NBA, and basketball in general from reading this site. I will miss it and hope that it will live on elsewhere. And thanks to all the moderators who put in so much time to make this site run so well.

Great idea, just sent email. Also registered a few names that we could use if we like them. I have a few hundred overall now(not the thousands from before) but mainly outside sports. I came up with a good one though for us :)
-
This is most certainly depressing news. There will never be a Celtics community quite like this one. I've never been able to get into FanPosts.
-
Maybe its a good idea to pin this thread
-
I am not technologically savvy enough to help with such a move, but I will suggest Invision Community as a reputable and easy to use forum software to potentially transfer to.
One of the other forums that I frequent uses their software, and I find the browsing experience to be excellent in its ease of use and reliability, with a much more practical and modern (but not overbearingly modern) user interface.
-
I come home after a long day of work to this?!
But I believe this blog will persevere. TP to Byennie for offering to shoulder the load. While I can't devote much time nor expertise, I am willing to donate to the cause.
-
As others have said, thanks to Jeff and all the other mods here who make this one of the best sites on the net. I am also willing to chip in some cash to help out with migration costs, or help out in other ways if possible. I am not a tech person either. With so many quality people here, I don't really worry that we will lose the forum completely.
-
No way in HELL we can let this forum die. It is the ONLY place I can go to discuss the Celtics. Living Cavs country I have nobody to talk to.
I have been here since 2008 and plan on being here longer. Many on here are folks I have lived and died with during games, offseasons, trades, injuries and other stuff.
Please do not leave without me.

Me too: live in cincy oh and came here with KG and stayed ever since. I check this place out a min. Of 10 times a day all year round!
Definitely will want to follow wherever this place goes but man this is the worst birthday present ever.... And I just had a waiter have the entire wing place sing to me lol
-
Did Jeff say there is a Celticblog.com that will remain? I am confused. The forum IS Celticsblog. Lets keep it going guys.

Moved to Ohio after the 2008 season from Florida. Had already created my username. Just left it. Might tweak it after the move to wherever this place goes

I am not a tech guy, but, have been in business all of my life.
From what I've learned in business.
We have an asset here, The asset is all of us. We lend our time and eyeballs to this forum. A lot of well developed Celtic writers here...a lot. This is an asset that can be leveraged at the "new" location into advertising sales. SBNation is to be challenged for not having a notion of how to turn this asset into ad dollars.
Our writing and interaction is second to none and I am sure there will be plenty of clicks for whomever to monetize.
There must be an ad/click/monetizer firm out there somewhere who wants our fan demographic combined with our "moderated content". BTW dropping this bomb in July is tough as our numbers are thin now.
Has there been a traffic volume stat analysis? I know our tech guys here can get this done.

Yes to all of this. Right now I'm working off of these stats, but I would agree there is more value here than just page views.

Given our number of users and general activity, I would imagine some advertisers have approached SBNation in the past. Once some of the technical logistics are underway, that may be a place to start looking for the necessary monetary support.

I love the forums and would be wreaked without them. I'm not sure if I can offer much in the way of anything other that enthusiastic support. I worked in Computer design and site setup related jobs in the 90s and early 2000s but I'm much more limited to low or no work levels and my memory comes and goes and things requiring an ever consistent memory are mostly beyond me. I would so love to continue on fighting and arguing with you all like the large demented family we have become. Keep me posted....
-
Best way to watch a game is with the game threads so not having those would stink. Also someone mentioned Wyc/the Celtics jumping in to support it...I actually don't think that's a good idea. The unfiltered opinions here are something that I really enjoy - and while the Celtics currently have as good a management team as anyone could reasonably expect - if they screw up I want to hear the full extent of the anger expressed here - not a filtered version that won't offend more casual (or young) fans.
Unfortunately I am not overly tech-savvy so I'm of no help there. However just a thought - if all else failed would a Reddit board be an option? Granted we lose the user names and the archives. But there would be zero connection problems and it would be a totally 'pure' forum.

As a New Yorker, I need this forum to talk Celtics basketball.
I wish I could help, but I know didly squat about tech.
I have faith that this will work because we have loyal members and a great staff.
I’ve been here for 8 years now and the summers go by so much faster because of CB.
We are in good hands, ours.

That's because he uses it like his personal diary where he creates a new thread for every daily thought he has on the same handful of players (Nader, Semi, now it's Williams). I've said it before, he needs to have his own sticky thread, maybe titled "Random Rollie Rants" or something to the like, where his thoughts go there, while eliminating a lot of the clutter of meaningless threads.
I checked and he's created 11 threads on Williams since we drafted him. That's 11 in 23 days.

I'd recommend that someone figure out a quick and dirty annual cost budget sufficient to run CelticBlog forums on other software and/or hardware. Then determine if there are enough people interested in being subscribers at a reasonable price to sustain operations after SB Nation covers transition costs. Build in some cushion to upgrade as necessary or adjust for unmet subscriber expectations. It will give you a ballpark number to work with so you know whether it's viable proposition or wishful thinking before you get into doing the dirty work involved with a conversion.
I would certainly consider subscribing at a reasonable price.

I can understand some current members donating to a fund to get the new site up and running, but charging for a subscription will absolutely kill any chance of it surviving. Just look at things like iPhone apps - if something is free, the downloads are endless, but if something costs $.99, then people will find something else that similar, but free.
And while a number of hardcore members may stand by the new site with a cost, there will be almost no new members, and that is important in the sustainability of such a site. Also, how would you deal with lurkers? Is what we have to say that amazing that they will feel they absolutely need to pay to look at our comments? Many lurkers eventually become members.
tl;dr - Advertising is the only real way for a new site's survival.

Hybrid models also potentially work (subscription for an ad-free version, or some sort of bonus features for subscribers). But yes, being purely subscriber based is death to any site like this, and frankly most any site at all.

I agree that subscription is not the model. The Celtics have a solid national base. Our forum creates a "product" that we could call "moderated content". It features many elements as is true with any pro sports team forum.
A tweet comes out and we dice it.We cover the NBA quite well.
We have writers with "speciaities." Salt is a financial master. Rolli can wander throughout this reality and still be a fan without anybody knowing how. We have writers who know more about potential 52 draft picks than the kid's own parents do. If Ainge has lunch somewhere? We just might know what he ate.
Keep it simple, we are high quality Celtics content. We will have our own "brand." This brand will market the site through our content and attract casuals visitors and others to our entertaining discussions. Who, I ask you, has Rick Flair during important victories? No one.
The forum has never been "out on it's own" and will be an entertaining and attractive website once it is.
Finally, ladies and gentlemen? We have one of the best teams in the National Basketball Association thus, making us one of the best forums in the NBA.

This happening now as we head into an era that could produce unprecedented Celtics interest, is distressing. I am relying on Cblog heros to keep this going. This site isn’t just ‘fun’; it’s important. It matters at a high level to many of us.
To those smart enough to know how — please keep it going.

^this. I lurked from 12-13 when I was around sixth grade to the 15-16 season or so before finally applying for an account, and a huge incentive of me joining was that an account is absolutely free. This forum is awesome content wise, with a good mixture of experts and rabid Celtics fans who are also civilized. I'm sorry to say that I don't have any means of payment except for mailing a small amount of cash to help you guys though :'(.

Can everyone just move over to the Boston Celtics subreddit. This style of forum is outdated and browsing through pages and pages of comments is so last decade.

I'd rather move to this app called discord. Greece666 has already made a server in the app related to this and I have to say it has been a great experience for me. If anyone doesn't like 4chan chatting culture we can always create a private server and create our own set of rules to filter content, while setting up a cheap site showing the invite link to the server.

Attempting to get by on (monthly subscription) donations could also work. No cost to use, but an optional one-time donation (or monthly/annual donation) that you can chose to do when you sign up and change at any time from your profile could work, too (like Wikipedia). It depends on the cost to run, though

Well I hope to God the site survives! This is the only place I come to chat on the internet and all this is happening when next year we are going to win the championship!!

one possible model to look at, if ads are the despicable yet unavoidable solution, is at SoSH. they feature ads, yet they are discreet. Also, if you are a member of SoSH the ads do not appear to you, only to lurkers.
in addition, they have set up a direct link to amazon, so if anyone goes to amazon from SoSH and orders something, SoSH benefits as well. i know that since members are occasionally urged to do their normal amazon holiday shopping through SoSH's link. ;D

Celtics subreddit
I gave this site a try and it is not as good as a format as here. We will have to do what we do though.

Reddit and Discord are great (though I'm personally not a fan of Discord's interface in general), but they're not the same. r/bostonceltics is great for breaking news, but if I want actual basketball discussion I come here. Yes, you can have a meaningful discussion there, but the way threads and comments are affected by up votes (instead of comments) mean that any discussion of more than a few posts ends up buried where people will never see it. Have a good discussion with saltlover about what moves we can/can't make this summer? Good luck having anyone see it before lower-quality comments get up voted to more visibility, or newer posts knock that one off the front page.
There's a reason that a lot of people here use multiple sites. I come here because I like how the forum format structures discussions. If you just try to force everyone here into one of those other sites, you're just gonna end up losing a bunch of people.
-
My vote is to layer ads here and keep this site unique and special.
Been coming here since 2004, I believe, and Forums are my favorite aspect.
Monetize!

With 9 million page views last year, I think the operational costs would be too high for donations alone, which is probably why SB Nation wants to ditch it.

Bummer! Been on this blog since 2004! :-(
-
This is truly a sad thing to hear. I’ve been on this forum literally half my life. From excitement over Gerald Green’s potential to screaming over Mark Blount’s softness, to experiencing the first Celtics championship of my lifetime, to the heartbreaks of 2010 and 2012. Celticsblog has been here through it all. I wish I could help but I’m not great with technology. All I know is this place has been a family to me. It’s great to have a place to talk with a bunch of knowledgeable fans who bleed green. I hope this sticks around in some way, because it’s truly one of my favorite things.
-
What a bummer. Only been active on here the last five years or so, but living in Cavs country now and big sports cities with no NBA teams before that, this forum has been my primary outlet for Celtics and NBA discussion. I especially enjoy the game threads, as they give the “sports bar with buddies” vibe that most people can’t get outside of New England.
Will it be the entirety of the Celticsblog site or just the actual forums that are leaving? If just the forums, at least for the game threads couldn’t we just do what other SBNation NBA team sites do (like LibertyBallers and SactownRoyalty) and have a gamethread through one of the front page posts?
It’d be a different format, but would still keep that part of the community, at least. Granted, that doesn’t help the other functionality of the forum that will be lost.
-
This website is first ballot hall of fame, but from all storied careers come an inevitable end. You have your Iversons, Larry Johnsons, Kemps, etc. who play past their prime and make sad from their lagging. This is indeed a special site.
I'd follow this site wherever it goes though. The content comes with the people, and I have faith that the community will persist through the roadblocks. It's worth it.

I do the game threads for these forums and also put one similar to the forum game threads on the blog on game day. If the forms move, I'll go with them and continue to do game threads there as well. I have absolutely no tech knowledge to help set them up but will be happy to continue doing the game threads there as well as on the blog on game days.

Yes! Your game threads are definitely a key part of the site, powered by you.
Drop me a PM... I'd love to pick your brain about how to make those even better at some point.

Yeah right now I don't see subscriptions as an option. What will be different, is that the forums need to be directly monetized in some fashion, as they won't be under the umbrella of CBlog or SBNation anymore and the bills gotta get paid.
My hope is that there is a sustainable path with some tasteful sponsorship and an element of donations especially at first, but preferably not required to keep the lights on.

Attempting to get by on (monthly subscription) donations could also work. No cost to use, but an optional one-time donation (or monthly/annual donation) that you can chose to do when you sign up and change at any time from your profile could work, too (like Wikipedia). It depends on the cost to run, though
With 9 million page views last year, I think the operational costs would be too high for donations alone, which is probably why SB Nation wants to ditch it.
Why would page views be relevant to the cost structure?

I'd recommend that someone figure out a quick and dirty annual cost budget sufficient to run CelticBlog forums on other software and/or hardware. Then determine if there are enough people interested in being subscribers at a reasonable price to sustain operations after SB Nation covers transition costs. The volume of traffic will determine what we need for server bandwidth, memory, processing power, etc.

Most sites don't use anywhere near the bandwidth allocations they get in a standard hosting package and hosting costs are pretty affordable. Why is this different?

Almost 100MM page views last year. Not going to fit on a standard/ economy package. Based on the size of this page I'm posting from, that's 30-40TB of bandwidth.
I'll get it sorted, but we're definitely beyond the realm of throwing a standard hosting plan at it and getting good results.

this takes me back to the early days of the blog - many moons ago
every few months the blog would generate more traffic than the servers could handle and I'd have to upgrade to the next higher package (more expensive) - it was a financial risk I took on to keep the thing going early on, but it all worked out

Right now I'm working off of these stats, but I would agree there is more value here than just page views.
http://forums.celticsblog.com/index.php?action=stats
I agree with all the above, but I wanted to hop in and note that more than 1/3 of rollie mass’ posts have been new threads.
Yes, and whatever the numbers are, it is important to recognize that those numbers represent motivated and dedicated interaction.

I'm afraid many here are not aware of the decline of internet forums.
Anyway, here (https://forums.soompi.com/en/topic/344509-the-decline-of-internet-forums/) is a post from 2014 claiming that a) forums have been declining since 2010 and b) it's mostly due to the rise of smart phones/tablets. (Mind you some of his links are dead)
Having said this, this place has a large number of dedicated users and something of a brand recognition, so hopefully there will be a solution.
It's just that we are something of internet dinosaurs :-\

Wow that is sad news, but I have a lot of confidence this will work out. My tech knowledge is limited to mainly just statistical programming in R and some Python, but I'd like to join the team and maybe learn some new skills (so long as I don't get in the way). Doing a quick google search, it looks like there are lots of affordable means to transfer this blog to another host, maybe even some with improved features.
I too would contribute financially. I would think that donations mentioned in this thread alone could fund the new forums for 1-2 years without any ads or subscription fees. An option is we could always do some kind of fundraising drive one day per year like how WBUR and wikipeda do. I'd rather do that than ads or subscription fees.
-
That's OK with me, the only reason I go to the SBnation site is to get to the forums. Once you'll relocate, I'll just follow you there and never need to come here again.

Yeah, I think forums used to be the only way for a group to have a structured online community interaction. Now there are more options. However, I have not yet found an alternative that provides exactly the type of interaction as a discussion forum. Others like reddit and facebook are useful and accessible in different ways. But the consistency of a discussion forum to provide things like an interested audience, depth and history of discussion, structured narrative and inclusiveness are not found easily via more accessible channels.
Discussion forums still have place. It's just that discussion forums now have their own niche, rather than being the default for everyone seeking to interact topically online.

One of the other advantages of this forum is that it's not likely to get blocked by corporate firewalls. I can't access sites like Facebook during the day on a work computer.

Forums are still the best way to discuss niche interests in great detail though. As great as Reddit is for being able to discuss about just about everything, its format is geared towards skimming through topics and not actually getting involved in deep conversation; ie. geared towards casual crowds.

I realize the sample size in this thread is small, but how do people generally feel about accessing the forum on mobile?
Works well enough? Do you stick to desktop?
Would a native app excite you if it was easier to use? Worth $0.99?

Likewise. I have zero problems with how the forums work on my iPhone, which is from where I overwhelmingly use the site.
There is another forum-type site that I use which had a native app, but I preferred just viewing the regular site. Ultimately they discontinued the (free) app after a recent site redesign.

You should try accessing a forum-type site on my old samsung.
I can use FB, discord and reddit fairly well on it btw.
Anyway, I'm not complaining, the reason I mention this is bcs I think it is relevant to the decline of forums esp. with young ppl. If you can discuss the nba on discord (not just texting, but also sending images, listening to music or using voice chat) why even bother with a forum where you need 10 secs just to click on the "reply" button.

Yeah, the trends are pretty undeniable overall. This is definitely more about keeping this particular community together than investing in the future of forums per se.
That said, sometimes there are niches that buck a trend. This forum had its biggest year in terms of traffic last year. Holding the line with decent mobile access can help with that.
It will be an interesting ride, but my half-full view is that a soft relaunch at least opens some paths forward, whereas there's a bit of a lame duck situation under current circumstances.

I got kicked from a Philly server on the spot despite having discussed it with the mods in advance (and having no interest in the Philly-Boston rivarly as I'm Greek).
The mods here are better than this for sure. I think you ll be welcome.

Same. While I prefer my laptop for game threads and longer posts, most of the time I’m on my iPhone on here. The bigger screens with the iPhone 6+ and newer versions make browsing much easier, at least to me.
-
The last few phones I've had (back to Samsung S6) have worked very well with the forum. I have an S8 now (5.8 screen, I'd imagine the S8+ or notes would be even better) and even with massive hands, it is the primary way I use this site. As potter outlined above, short of game threads, I never go on this site on a computer. The only issue I ever run into is lag (totally not on my end.) So I honestly dont think the mobile aspect of this site is an issue. The ability to quickly zoom via touch screen completely eliminates any potential issues with small problematic links.

That's great news. I personally use the site mostly on desktop, which is sort of odd because I'm a heavy iPhone user, but likely because I work at my laptop most of the day.

Tough luck that we definitively found out about this only a month prior to D-Day. Is it safe to assume there will be a gap in time between said shutdown and opening of a new forum site? Just trying to plan for the crater-sized void in my life. :D

THIS IS A GREAT COMMUNITY OF INTERESTING KNOWLEDGEABLE PEOPLE! Let's keep it going!

I've got a BB Z10 that is at least 5 years old, and the desktop version of this site loads perfect on my phone. I'd actually be rather disappointed with an app.

I'm planning to be there to do the game threads just as I do them here. I am grateful for those with the tech expertise to do all the heavy lifting in the move. I'm completely clueless when it comes to technical stuff. I also don't use a smart phone to do anything. I access the forums strictly on my computer.

The Mobile works adequately, but most mobile-friendly websites are so much better than Celtics blog. I'd appreciate a better mobile version.

I use mobile about 99% of the time. I wouldn't use an app if I could avoid it, and also generally prefer having the desktop site on my phone instead of a mobile site (which I often find clunky).
Requesting the desktop site from my phone browser doesn't always work, though (but some sites, like reddit, have a setting that let's you default to the desktop site, presumably through a cookie). An option like that certainly isn't necessary, but it would be a good QOL option

IT definitely requires a lot of pinching and enlarging and moving around, but it works fine (if you have a decent browser). But yeh, it would be easier to not have to do all that I suppose.

I couldn't disagree more. I find that the functionality and appearance of most mobile sites is poor, and prefer navigating a desktop site even if it means more zooming, etc.
Hopefully there's a solution that can make us both happy (although I don't expect everyone to be totally happy on day 1, we need something functional before we really worry about minor QOL stuff)

If possibly interested, I have close ties to a development team who would be able to make a native app or a web app hybrid of each. They do amazing work and pretty reasonable prices. I am not overwhelmed with money but would be willing to contribute to the cost. Would love to help in anyway I could. I am more of a reader than poster on the forum and would love to keep it going.
edit: If were going to meet the modern discussion world half way, maybe notfications and follows to notify when people reply or comment? Just a thought. Wish I. could follow up on some of the convos I started here
-
I hate the ESPN mobile site. Trying to get stats off it except for the most very basic type of stat is impossible.

That would be a good idea. Maybe just used when your post is quoted (so that game threads don't turn into 1000s of notifications) or the ability to turn them on/off for certain posts/threads
I don't know how difficult it would be to implement, but it would definitely be nice
-
I've been using mobile for the forums 99% of the time, and I have to say that I have had no problems at all with this setup. In fact it's one of my favourites because it allows me to access the website like a PC, and "issues" such as zooming in and out is easy with a smartphone. I don't think the current "mobile setup" needs to be changed, so far it's been an amazing experience for me. I don't need a mobile app or those clunky mobile sites-I just need the forums lol.

As you said earlier, the first concern is to actually get a new site. But yeah, a notification when your text gets quoted would be handy.

Ah, you think that now but when you post early in a thread that goes 10 pages in a couple hours you're not going to be to happy with those notifications lighting up your phone.

Maybe a daily notification?

Just the opposite IMO. A notification system would help find where in the 10 page someone interacted with your post. I think of it as a better version of "Replies".

long time lurker. laker fan. will follow where and when this forum moves.
What's everyone saying about Xavier Rathan-Mayes in your neck of the woods? Absolutely love dat dude, lol ;D, ever since, well, performances such as these :o -

At best could be worth a two way contract. More athletic than Caruso, our 3rd stringer, but not as crafty. Not the player we want to be dribbling the ball too much.

You think the ESPN mobile site is bad, the NBA mobile site is infinitely worse. At least I found a work around and discovered I can access the full NBA site indirectly. I've found no such work around for ESPN.

The ability to turn on/off would be very helpful. I don't want 100 of notifications, and don't really feel the need to know every single time someone responds to a thread I've created or post I've made.
-
I don't have any tech knowledge to contribute but I will follow to wherever the site moves to and would love to help in any other way I could if such help becomes needed.

I realize the sample size in this thread is small, but how do people generally feel about accessing the forum on mobile?
Works well enough? Do you stick to desktop?
Would a native app excite you if it was easier to use? Worth $0.99?
I access both mobile and laptop. Never had a problem...except for when the site gaacked months ago.

It doesn't need to be a push notification on your phone, just a notification like the one we have here for PMs (with the ability to turn it on/off for individual posts, maybe an option in your profile for whether it defaults to "on" or "off")
-
We will have to WEBSCRAPE the entire forum possibly. I'm very willing to help and have the time to work.
-
Saw this coming. The old CB uniqueness has been washing away over time for the house style. If there's something new coming I'll be there. Thanks guys.

I'm about 50/50 mobile and desktop when it comes to my internet browsing in general, and while I do not find the current forum unusable or anything on mobile it isn't optimal. If you are moving to a new software system (which it sounds like is the case), then I'd imagine just about any package would include mobile support anyways.
The one feature I'd really like to see implemented is a togglable notification system. You could set it up to notify you any time someone quotes you or mentions you in a post, and maybe even everytime someone posts in a "watched" thread. Every other forum/community I've been a part of has this feature, and it is so handy in keeping conversations running organically.
-
I’m about 70/30 mobile/tablet. Other than the site crashing, it’s been painless to read/post on mobile.
-
I'm about 70/30 in favor of my mobile device.

Just thought I’d check to see how things are progressing. It sounded like we had some talented and capable people on this, but so you need more support?

Discord anyone? XD

any updates on the final day for accessing the forum through the main page and/or the new site?

Last I knew there was going to be some wiggle room with "end date" until we can figure out the logistics of movings things to an independent site for the forums.

I'd love to somehow integrate a new slack or discord channel with the new forum :)

I have not had a chance to go through the entire thread but just wanted to say that I am sorry to hear that the forum will be going away. Though I do not post often I do check the site, especially the forums, daily and I appreciate all who have entertained and informed me on the forum. I truly hope an alternative can be found and I would very much like to join. If I needs to be a pay site I would be happy to contribute.

My understanding is that the Forum is not going away, just splitting off from CB. In that respect, it makes no difference to me as I mostly use the Forum, much less other parts of CB. So yes, I would pay for access too.

Is there any way in which we can send a kind of "We've Moved" email to anyone/everyone who is registered on here? There has to be some kind of a member master list thingy, right?

It should be technically possible to do a one-time announcement/ blast. I know one thing that's been broken here is the email system but that's something meant to be fixed moving forward. I'd have to confirm re: privacy issues and make sure it's done properly, but it should be totally doable.
I'm also hoping we can put some sort of redirect or "goodbye, please visit X" link here in a way that works for SbNation, at least for a little while.

i would very much hope for a redirect link that lasts some months, otherwise the forums might lose too many users

As long as possible. Need to honor any wishes of CelticsBlog on how exactly it's done, but everyone has been very gracious so far and I'm sure it'll be worked out.

do we have a tentative migration date yet?
most importantly, do we keep our valuable and cherished tps? ;D

No dates yet, but will certainly work to keep this thread updated with anything firm.
The intention is for everything to port over, including tps.

Once that day comes...I will have to abandon Jeff Clark and Celtics Blog because...Celtics Blog Forum is where my true home lies.
Just kidding, I'll try to drop by once in a while since I'm actively involved in Pats Pulpit ;D
-
Personally I think it would be prudent to start from scratch on the new forum because of how many dead accounts there would be on celtics blog forum, as it's impossible to delete an account even if someone wanted to.
As long as people use their old username and avatar everyone will know who you are anyway.
-
I will be devastated if the post counter gets reset. It took me 10 years to get to Page 1.

You're not wrong. Of the approximately 43,250 users (865 pages / 50 user per page), only about 1300 users have over 100 posts (ends on the 26th page). That is like 840 of the 865 pages of users who have under 100 posts.
If there was a way to boil that down a bit, that would be ideal, but I understand if it's not. I do think there would be a number of people who might be liable to check out some other sites if their post count / TPs were reset, though. I mean, it's happened before a couple of times before SB Nation, but never have we moved to a completely different site and never has a CB forum lasted anywhere near this long.

ideally, we'd carry over the post and TP counts from here and be able to send out a restricted mailing to those most likely to be reading the forums -- say people who've posted in the past year or 2.
A couple of things I've wondered:
- would there be the same site rules, moderators and moderator functions as this site (would allow everyone to be familiar with operating practices before making changes).
- would there be the return of the "ignore" option? I miss this function. I found it saved a bit of frustration being able to avoid a few individuals that deliberately looked to troll on the site.

Yeah, keeping post counts and the like as-is but jettisoning any account that hasn't posted in, say, over a year would make sense. I don't know how feasible that is, though.

I think this might turn out to be problematic. Even inactive accounts have a post history, which you want to remain intelligible for the future.
Moreover, inactives are part of every internet medium I have ever used from email in the 1990s to discord today, IMO they are not a problem.
There are also many lurkers on this site as everywhere else, why alienate them.

I’m just curious, what does it matter if they are inactive? Why shouldn’t their posts carry over? Seems like it’s really just porting all the info over, and I’m no expert but wouldn’t it be easier to port all data over than to sift through it?
Does it matter if a new CB has 1,300 users (all of whom post regularly) or 43,000 (of which 1300 post regularly)?

It's not about posting regularly. Of the 43,000+ users, over 37,000 have never posted a single post. And of those 6,000+ who are 'active', almost a 1/4 of them have only posted once.
I fully understand that it is not necessarily feasible to sift through what users to keep and what ones are not worth keeping, just that it is interesting that 85-90% of the user names are completely obsolete.

The original announcement said that the change would happen sometime in August. Since August is drawing to a close, any news on when the forums on the site will close and when the new ones will be unveiled?
-
I know I'm late to the funeral, but this breaks my heart (if I had one).
I'm not a tech guy, but I'm willing to donate some money if it helps keeping the forums alive.
Same. For once, Casperian and I agree on something. A modern miracle.
-
Personally I think it would be prudent to start from scratch on the new forum because of how many dead accounts there would be on celtics blog forum, as it's impossible to delete an account even if someone wanted to.
As long as people use their old username and avatar everyone will know who you are anyway.
And of those 6,000+ almost a 1/4 of them have only posted once.
I fully understand that it is not necessarily feasible to sift through what users to keep and what ones are not worth keeping, just that it is interesting that 85-90% of the user names are completely obsolete.
You should try to keep Danny Ainge's account at least.
And that one that Jordan Mickey's mom had. it was treeboy or something like that.

Hey, it's still August =)!
Kidding. Actually we've been working behind the scenes to make sure everything goes smoothly. This has stretched out the timeline a little bit, but SbNation has been gracious enough to keep everything running in the meantime. I would say "in September" is very likely now with little to no downtime.
Right now, I am successfully running a "new" version of the site and making some updates and fixes needed for a changeover. Doing things like removing SbNation IP, getting the email system working, etc.
As we get closer to launch, there will likely be a modest fundraiser to help cover some of the server & transition costs, for those that wish to contribute. Long term, we're doing our best to find options that make the site self-sufficient.
Thanks to everyone for your patience and support and please stay tuned for more updates!

Thank you to all involved in making the new site happen, I truly appreciate all of your hard work. I may not post often but I have been on this site almost daily for many years. It has been a great way for me to keep up with Celtics/Boston news while I am miles away. I appreciate all the insights and banter.
I wish I could help out but I am not a tech guy. Whenever you need to set something up for contributions I would be happy to donate.
Thanks again!

Hopefully a link will be possible.
this site is worth making it a premium pay site. However, yes, i post on a college board that is FREE and makes a killing with ad revenue. The owner of that HUGE site could help us here.
also if we need serious shareholders I am up for buying shares of ownership.

Appreciate the dedication. Currently the plan is something like:
1) Have a smooth transition with as few differences as possible, on a small budget. Fix things that are broken, e.g. emails, connection issues, etc.
2) Work on tasteful ways to monetize the site. I don't want to elaborate prematurely, but I'm keenly aware of the need to have *some* revenue coming in long term. The strong preference is to keep it free. I think this community is worth a decent sponsor, but it will take some time to roll anything out after the move.
3) Find ways to improve and grow the forums, while preserving everything we already love. No major changes to the format, nothing crazy, but lots of ideas to incrementally improve the experience.
I have high hopes that the forums will be better than ever in the coming months.

I’m an infrequent poster but daily lurker so please don’t delete “dead” accounts as suggested by some on the previous page.

I think people are misunderstanding the desire to get rid of 'dead' accounts (which I doubt is happening anyway). If you sort by post count, you'll see that from page 119-865 (over 37,000 accounts) are users who have never even posted one single comment. Only on page 94 do you even begin to see people who have posted more than once.
In this hypothetical world where we delete dead user accounts, we would literally only be deleting accounts of people who have never ever posted. It's amazing that 37000 of the over 43000 accounts have only ever created a user name, but never posted. It makes me think people are creating usernames just to give themselves TPs :o

I was thinking of adding a system similar to the one Paradox Plaza has, where instead of upvote/downvote, you can chose among three options: agree, respectfully disagree, helpful.
This has several advantages:
i. respectfully disagree is a much less confrontational than a downvote/dislike. Paradox Plaza is actually one of the most civil places on the internet.
ii. It saves you the trouble (and the risk of confrontation) to make a comment just to express disagreement with another comment or rectify a false piece of information.
iii. A reader can at a glance see which comments the community regards as more informative and helpful.

We tried the downvote thing. It ran very contrary to our values of civility.

I definitely agree. Downvotes often run against civility. But the system above is very different from what say reddit does. For an example of what I'm suggesting works take a look here

And if you think "respectfully disagree" is still too much, what about just adding "agree" and "helpful"?

It's true that sometimes you just agree with a post and don't necessarily have anything to add but the only way to express that agreement is with a new post. I would use an agree button a lot.

^Agree. This would save time reading through posts like "TP to the original poster" and "+1" or even the worst of all "This."

Yeah, I know some people don't like having the "Soandso likes this" message at the bottom of posts because it seems a bit Facebook-esque, but I personally think it beats the hell out of wading through a wall of "TP" "^this" "I agree" and other empty posts.
IMO, a regular "like system", better image support, and a notification system would go a long way in making this community (and the new site) more accessible and user friendly.

IMO an anonymous system like the one I linked above is much better than the one of FB.

I prefer the TP system. TPs aren't just given out for posts. They have a place in games and bets and are given out to show respect and as a sign of friendship. And they make Celticsblog unique. I wouldn't change things at all. Also, a new system isn't going to stop the "Agreed", "This^^^", and other type comments. I see them all over the place on social media and site comments sections.

Of course the proper response to the original post should have been: "This^^^"

I'm not advocating for a complete overhaul of the TP system, nor do I think that making "likes" (or "TP giveth"?) un-anonymous would get rid of all of those empty posts. But I do think it would greatly reduce them and combined with a notification system provide a much cleaner and efficient browsing experience.
But that's just my 2 cents coming from someone who mostly just lurks anyways

My own experience is very different. Which social media are you talking about?
I previously mentioned Paradox Plaza because it is very civil and because it's also a forum not unlike the one we have here. I don't recall ever seeing a "this ^^^^" there.

A few more suggestions while we're at it:
- It would be great if we could embed Youtube videos again
- Consider changing the background color of the forum. Reading text on a white background hurts my eyeballs - basically like staring into a lamp.
Thanks.

New announcement coming soon, keep the feedback coming!
Regarding colors, we may be able to support an alternate "night" theme. I know the forums support user selectable themes, and we could take the existing layout but apply some new colors.
YouTube - good suggestion. Does anyone know history there of why it stopped being possible? Was there a community issue around it at all?

I like the TP counter. Maybe we can add some kind of indicator on the posts that get the TP.

YouTube being stopped was not a choice, but rather SBN hiring somebody to “upgrade” the forums who didn’t know what he was doing. He left them half-broken, including leaving YouTube disabled.

Awesome, thanks. I was wondering what the heck happened to being able to embed YouTube vids.
Good to know about the color schemes too. Obviously we have to keep green and white, but as long as having a non-white background is an option everything should be fine.

TPs are perfectly compatible with the changes discussed above. No one advocated abolishing TPs.

My own experience is very different. Which social media are you talking about?
I previously mentioned Paradox Plaza because it is very civil and because it's also a forum not unlike the one we have here. I don't recall ever seeing a "this ^^^^" there.
I like the TP counter. Maybe we can add some kind of indicator on the posts that get the TP.
I've often thought that it would be great to know who's giving me TPs, and for which posts.

YouTube being stopped was not a choice, but rather SBN hiring somebody to “upgrade” the forums who didn’t know what he was doing. He left them half-broken, including leaving YouTube disabled.
Thanks Roy. I'll check where that feature lives and make sure it comes back!
I know I have had trouble inputting an avatar for years. Is this a system problem or just me?
Its difficult but you can use this method.
1. Go on Google type a phrase that will give you the avatar you are after then click google search.
2. Click on Images.
3. Select the Image you are after then click 'View Image'.
4. Right click directly on the image an click on 'Save Image' then name the pic and remember where you are saving it.
5. Go to http://resizepic.com
6. Click on 'Choose File' and find and select the pic you saved earlier and select it.
7. Click on 'Width' and select no larger than 75 and do the same for your 'Height' then click 'Resize Image'.
8. Your Avatar should be above your Image Resizer with the new pixel dimensions, right click on the Avatar and select 'Save'.
9. Go to imgur.com it's safe and reliable. It's Reddit's image hosting site.
10. Make a free account and upload your image
11. Open the image in a new tab and the url at the top of the screen should read something like this... https://i.imgur.com/MN0GMTy.jpg
12. Now here is the trick.... When uploading the image to your forum profile you need to type the URL as "http" not "https" my final address looked like.... http://i.imgur.com/MN0GMTy.jpg

I’ve never been able to access (or never been able to figure out how to access) the bold, italics, underline (etc) features. I suspect it’s my stupidity at fault, but if it’s actually tricky that would be a good fix.

Awesome, thanks. I was wondering what the heck happened to being able to embed YouTube vids.
Good to know about the color schemes too. Obviously we have to keep green and white, but as long as having a non-white background is an option everything should be fine.
I respectfully disagree. Try reading white text over a black background. I get a headache within five minutes. Now if you’re talking about keeping black text but over a slightly shaded, but still light, background that might work. Still, I have no trouble with the current color scheme. If it’s too bright turn down your brightness on your screen. iPads have an auto night feature that does that.

Highlight what you want bolded by click and dragging you mouse over the words.
Then press the "B" icon above the text entry box.
You will see that a "[b ]" has appeared in front of why you want bolded and a "[/b ]" has appeared behind it.
*Note added spaces after the b to show what boxes look like, you will not have to use spaces when you click the "B" icon*
Everything in between the bracketed "[b's]" will be bolded when you post. You can preview it it before to make sure every thing worked out as well.
Same thing for Italics with [I ] and underline with [U ].
*Again no spaces when you use the icons*

Thanks guys, keep the ideas coming.
Also, the fundraiser is up. No obligation to donate, but it will be hugely helpful in taking the pressure off while we "figure things out" and focus on tightening up the site. A little goes a long way!

It's not working when I try this. I wish there was an instruction manual for all this stuff. I don't know how to do a lot of stuff that people do here and I don't know how everyone else seems to know how to do these things.

Hmmm not sure what your exact issue is but a common problem I run into is making sure that the words you want bolded are still highlighted when you click the "B" icon.
This is especially difficult on mobile since you often need to scroll up to press the "B" icon which might accidentally kill your highlight.
Best of luck friend. If there's interest I could probably do a Youtube tutorial if the new site uses the same system.

when you hit quote do you see the bar with the B, I, U, etc. above all of the smileys. All you have to do is hit those and then type within the two b's.

Can you make a post and try bold in something? We may be able to see what's going wrong if we check your post after

No luck. I see the B,I, and U but I don't get the two b's after I click on the B. Also, nothing happens when I click on the emoji's when using my computer. They work fine on my phone. It's been like this for about a year. Maybe it's a computer issue.
I'd also like to be able to take a sentence from somebody else's long post and just quote that sentence instead of taking up so much room quoting the whole post.

You don't need to use the buttons to use the bold, italics, quote, etc. functions.
Simply input what's in the grey boxes below:
I want to bold this
or
I want to quote this
I'll probably have to start making the game thread right away since I'm such a dinosaur when it comes to technology just in case I run into problems and have to ask somebody how to do something :) I can't wait!

Well if you're a dinosaur with tech then I'm a ....fish. Extinct fish thing

I wonder if the change comes at midnight like becoming a pumpkin or Y2K

Anxiously awaiting the unveiling! I want to get started on that first game thread LOL!!

Not that I'm hoping for it — but I'd be very curious what kind of traffic hit CetlicsBlog takes with the forums moving...

Hopefully most of the current format will carry over. I'm excited to see what will change (if anything) as far as commenting on game threads goes
-
I don't post much since the multi-year rebuild is basically complete but I value the forums very highly and there will be future big issues like Kyrie and Horford when I might want to post. You probably know this already, but as a revenue source you might be able to get an Amazon banner that would give you a small percentage of every Amazon purchase made by someone who hits the banner. i post quite a bit on pokerfraudalert.com, a non-profit site, and it seems to help him with the cost of running the site. Good luck and thanks to those who are working to get us a new site.

FLC, it is great to hear you will keep up the rich and wonderful tradition of game threads. it would be not nearly as much fun to watch the games without your great threads.
see you on the other side....and one more tp. ;D

We could advertise it on the relevant sites like the Celtics sub on reddit, /r/nba, nba related servers on discord, CelticsHub. Maybe a kind hearted Celtics journalist could make a reference on twitter. In any case, I'm optimistic.

iirc byennie said they will try to have one.
afaik all reasonable concerns (maintaining log ins, posts, TPs, post counts, passwords etc) have all been addressed some time ago, the idea being they'll do everything possible to run things smoothly. We ll be fine.

It was more about the casual users that haven't noticed there's been a change =)
Maybe admins can also send a blast email to registered emails?
Anyways, hope people find the new forum just fine.

Confirmed there will be a redirect. Should be hard not to find, even by accident. Regarding emails, we may clean up the list and create a periodic newsletter but that's out a few weeks likely.
Process will start in a few mins where you'll see a maintenance message for a bit before it returns.
