There's something about southern rock that I think compliments a long drive really well.

So anything Creedence, anything The Band, early Eagles, Rolling Stones, Jackson Browne, and for my money the best song to ever kick off a road trip is Sweet Home Alabama.
1957, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1974, 1976, 1981, 1984, 1986, 2008

I think of Southern rock as Lynrd Skynrd, Marshall Tucker Band, Allman Bros.  So yeah, Sweet Home Alabama, but I'll add Can't You See, and especially JESSICA.  There's no better driving song.

Loving some of the songs mentioned:
Marshall Tucker - Can't you see
Looking Glass - Brandy

A few others that keep me awake:
Share the Land or Undun - The Guess Who
American Pie - Don McClean
If I Can Dream - Elvis
My Sweet Lord - Billy Preston version (from Concert for George)
My Back Pages / Like a Rolling Stone / Shelter from the storm - Dylan
Gentle on my Mind - Glen Campbell
King of the Road - Roger Miller
Lots of Credence, especially Have you ever seen the Rain; Travelin' Band; Lodi
Too many Beatles to name

I have made the trip from Boston to Florida or Florida to Boston several times in a car. Some albums I would listen to in whole while riding through some of those southern, country western, gospel only areas were:

Stranger in Town - Bob Segar
Back in Black - AC/DC
4 - Foreigner
American Idiot - Green Day
The Chronic - Dr. Dre
The Sickness - Disturbed

album Who's Next by The Who.

Ramble On- my favorite Led Zeppelin song.
Also the Levee Song (when the levee breaks)

Feel Like Making' Love--Bad Company

ZZ Top
Lynyrd Skynyrd

in the past...album Fragile by Yes.  Can't listen to it anymore...too much nostalgia.

If you want to stay awake and alert and dance a bit in your seat--Talking Heads album "speaking in tongues"  play loud..  "burning down the house" played loud will have you speeding

I've made that same trip more times than I care to think.

My go-tos have been Sirius XM Sinatra Channel, Real Jazz, BB King's Bluesville with a dollop of Rumbón Classic Salsa for an energy boost
