There’s a lot of pessimism after a 7-5 start but the team will be clicking by the playoffs IMO! Still the favorite from the EC.

This also isn’t the 2009-2010 Celts with the sleepwalking mentality throughout the regular season

According to most before the Jimmy Butler to Philly trade we were no longer the favorites , but #3. After the Butler trade I think most have us as #3 or #4.

Could we have some optimism here?  :(

Forgot about this thread!

Great thing about looking like garbage right now, is that there's a lot of problems we're ironing out, and we'll look amazing in a few months - even better than expected I dare say.

If a team ever has problems, you won't those problems to materialize early in the season. Figure it out and hit your stride by the end of the year, going into the playoffs.

Meanwhile, for all of the doom and gloom, the Celtics are still two games above .500 and have a better record than the Houston Rockets right now.

Everything has gone exactly to expectation.  The youth struggling to adjust after that great playoff run, Hayward beginning what will necessarily be a very slow recovery, and the inevitable hangover as the team reacclimates when the games mean next to nothing. We're still likely to make the Finals. And we havent even seen Wanamaker's inevitable rise to stardom yet.

the celtics are bringing it all together and with thier upcoming schedule are about to begin a serious win streak.

is that good enough?  ;D
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

For optimism, take a look at the 2013-2014 season Celtics roster and compare... :P

Something positive:

@Max_Lederman

Positivity is like life on Earth, you can find it in the darkest places:

Jayson Tatum last 6 games: 18.5 ppg (49.5 FG%, 45.2 3-pt%), 6.2 rpg

Hopefully Brown and Rozier are next.

Doing some research for an upcoming post (after a few more games) about how the Celtics look on offense / defense in terms of the four factors (shooting, free throws, turnovers, rebounds), and I have a few tidbits that provide modest optimism for the offense:

Celts are 3rd in 3 point attempts per game.

If some of their main guys improve their percentages a bit that could juice the offense in a big way.

Celts are 10th in fast break points per game.

Any way you can generate easy baskets is good, so at least the Celts do that.

Celts are 3rd in fewest turnovers per possession.

So at least they don't give the ball away very often; this is good because they can't afford to throw away possessions given how inefficient they are.

You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Only 20 games in.

By Playoff time we'll be elite on both ends, and we'll be praising Brad for forcing our boys to play the right way.

Does anyone else just think this is all just a lesson for Brad to the team, and in a few months we'll be 10 times the team we are right now?

It happens every year with Brad - basically the first couple months are just experiments for him.

And just gonna leave this thread here. We're trending up (easier schedule, but the contrast in record is stark).

Stevens is a good college level coach. He can coach up a team that has no talent and have them overachieve. For that, i give him credit. When it comes to getting a team over the top and into title contention he is too flawed. His rotations/substitutions are pre-planned and are not going with the flow of the actual game being played. As mentioned in this thread his timeouts are always too late. By the time he calls them the other team has built up a huge head of steam. Am i saying that he needs to be replaced? Not necessarily. But i do think he needs to look himself in the mirror for the lackluster coaching job he's done this season.
Stevens wasn't a good college level coach. He was an amazing college level coach. And he is one of the top 3-4 coaches in the NBA.

Stevens is definitely part of this team's problems but no more or less so than Ainge, his other coaches, the training and medical staff and all the players. Everyone is to blame.

But Stevens is definitely a huge part of the solution to get better. He is a great coach. He will turn this team around.

I agree with you that he is a huge part of the solution to get better. He has the ability to get better just like the players do. Unfortunately he hasn't made any significant adjustments yet but i'm still hoping that he figures it out. He's been really bad this year.
He hasn't made any significant adjustments yet? Are you kidding?

The team was 10-10 when he decided to bench Brown and Hayward and inserted Smart and Morris into the starting lineup. They are 10-3 since and could well have been 12-1 if the team didn't lose their starting center, starting power forward, 2nd string center and a bench PF for some games.
