It matters because he's a good player, who's could turn out to be really good. We're going to have to pay another big regardless, to solve our rebounding/rim protection issues, so why not Nerlens?
Noel isn't gonna solve anybody's rebounding issues. As a defensive rebounder, he's about on Olynyk's level

So, why don't you prove to me that Noel is a good rebounder? Because according to defensive rebound %, he's merely okay (although his 19.2% is worse than Kelly Olynyk's 20.4%), and his offensive rebound % is bad for someone who attempts 80% of their shots within 10 feet (9.0%, worse than Zeller and Amir, both of whom have at least some range).
Now, he does beat Kelly 14.1% to 12.6% on TRB%, but that is entirely from offensive rebounds and can mostly be accounted for by role (ie Kelly being kept on the outside on offense while Noel plays more inside)
Noel is a very good defensive player, but he's not a good rebounder.
