Gramted, I can only imagine what Orlando would try to hold Ainge up for in a sign-n-trade.  They'd almost certainly want a 1st rounder, which Boston shouldn't give up.  And granted, Barnes isn't anywhere near the scorer that Howard is when healthy.  But with Howard coming off a major knee injury and Barnes probably being a more pesky defender who apparently has fewer suitors and might be more willing to take a 2 year deal, shouldn't Ainge at least see if something is possible.

I would be very disappointed if our best wing acquisition is Matt Barnes. I would have rather kept TA at that point.

Josh Howard is much better.  Matt Barnes wouldn't be bad as a 4th wing/defender; however, it's not going to happen.

Ditto

Anyways, I don't see Barnes as a realistic target. Looking for more than the minimum + a sign and trade between Orlando and Boston is very tricky / unlikely.

The only advantage Barnes has over TA is that he's a better shooter, which is pretty important when it comes to playing in the half court with Rondo.

With them possibly parting with Reddick I'm sure theyre keeping Barnes

I don't think Howard is healthy enough to be better.

Well they just signed QRich. Does that mean the end of Redick, Barnes, or both?

He's rumored to be ready for the start of the season.  And all that really matters is that he's ready for the playoffs.

Boston's Eastern Conference rivals have no reason to see Boston get better and maintain their position as the defending Eastern champs.

Orlando, Miami, Atlanta and to some extent Chicago or Milwaukee will not deal with Boston. You can bet your house on that.

Then the question becomes, if Orlando doesn't offer Barnes what he wants...where does he go?  He's a little young to want to take the vet min and chase a ring with Boston, but you never know.

A guy like Barnes has toiled in the league for years looking to be paid.  With all the teams out there who hoarded space without anyone to spend it on - he is a solution.  I think he disappears from the Celtics perspective - just a poor value proposition.

They won't be parting with Reddick. And Barnes sucks.

Eh.  With Q-Rich going to Orlando, Barnes is definitely out of there.  Which means they might be willing to get something out of him in a trade to Boston, even if it's only a couple of 2nd round picks, and you would have thought somebody else would have picked up James Posey three years ago after being part of a championship team in Miami.
