Here is a name that I dont even think has come up in any discussions anywhere. Not just on this board but with free agency in general. He would be an incredible pick up, IMO, yet would probably be the type looking for a pretty generous and greedy contract. I would love to have him as a 6th man at the SF spot. He can score no matter how many minutes he is in the game and can shoot the three pretty well. If we could do a sign and trade with the Knicks for Sheed's contract I would be all over it in a heart beat.

I feel like not many people on this board will agree with me. But having a bench of Harrington, JO, Baby, Nate, and a SG at the vet would be pretty killer in my eyes.

No defense, not enough rebounding for his height and no way to sign him.

If he agreed to the minimum though, I would welcome him. Otherwise, we don't have a chance except for sign and trade possibilities and I wouldn't give up Rasheed for him.

I've mentioned him a couple times and I've always said the same thing.  He'd be nice, but he wants two things only one of which we can offer.  A title contender and MONEY.  Read a blurb on hoopsworld where he commented Orlando showed interest but after signing Duhon they didn't have the money to sign him and NY wasn't interested in S&T for him.  He's not gonna take the minimum to play for the Celtics or anybody and there are still too many teams with money for that to be the case.

The thing is we dont need defense or rebounding from him. We need a spark and a scorer off the bench. We have plenty of defense on the second unit and plenty of rebounding with Oneal and Baby. We need an outside shooter that can score the basketball for us and take charge on offense when the starters are out. He fits that role perfectly.

I do agree that he is looking for MONEY however. But i think a swap for Sheeds contract would be somewhat reasonable.

He has come up many times on here.

He is a bad shooter that takes a lot of shots.

He lost a step that used to allow him to be a power SF.

He is terrible defensively.

He doesn't rebound.

He doesn't rebound.

6 rebounds a game off the bench and he doesnt rebound? Interesting...

He also shot 34 percent from three...Ray only shot 36.

His 44% from the field really isnt that bad either. Paul was at 47 and Ray was at 48.

Terrible defensively, yes i agree with that but the Celtics use a defensive system and rely heavily on team defense, help, and rotations. Yes individual defense is a plus but in the system he would be just fine.

5.6 in 30 minutes for a PF.  Bad.

He took a 1000 shots last year and shot under 45 %.

Under 45% for a PF.  That's bad shooting for a PF.

So, he shots bad for a PF.

He rebounds bad for a PF.

And he doesn't defend.

Why?

Look, he's not as bad as some of these guys suggest--numbers are skewed when you are on a high scoring offensive team and you're asked to take a lot of shots. The same guys who said David Lee's numbers were inflated in NY because of their style of play are typically the same guys that say Al sucks without considering he's in the same system as Lee. David Lee may not avg 20 points a game in GS but I'm positive will still be a double double guy. That said, Al just isn't a good fit for the C's IMO, which is why you won't hear me talking much about him. He has always had an inflated sense of value for himself and just wouldn't play for the vet min. If he'd take less money it's probably be in Miami who wouldn't want him anyway.

The man has no conscious, a bigtime chucker. There isn't a shot he doesn't like. I Can't see him flourishing here where ball movement is crucial in the offense. And he can't defend jack.

Harrington will never take the minimum.

But if he did it wouldn't be a bad pick-up. Hey beggars can be choosers.
There will be slim pickings for the vet minimum and some of the better player will want to go to Miami before they pick Boston.

Q's prediction - He ends up on Minnesota and plays like Mark Blount. That is why nobody is talking about him.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

He doesn't rebound.

Is that fact or opinion, because it sounds like opinion to me. I would personally love Al Harrington in green. To me, he's a big guy who can play defense, rebound and score!! From having seen him play over the years, he seems like a great player to me.

He doesn't rebound, he rebounds at a worse rate than Rasheed Wallace did last year. He scores with a .546 TS%, which is poor, and his defense is awful.
