Title: I know its early but...
Post by: PaulAllen on November 10, 2017, 12:12:32 PM
If OKC keeps playing like this should DA make a move for Paul George?

As a half year rental his value should be relatively low..
Protected pick, salary dump, and Injury exception..

nah. i think itd disrupt what they have going and stunt development. makes the future more blurry and not sure it guarantees a championship.
seems pretty unlikely he'll be available that soon anyway, but maybe.

They wouldn’t trade Paul George. And I don’t see the point in giving up “assets” when you know it’s likely we see Hayward return next year.

Carmelo really can’t be on a winning NBA team it seems...

No. We have Jaylen and Tatum, and Hayward will be back next year too. George is not that much better than any of them to justify giving up assets for a half season of him.

We already have Hayward.

Carmelo effect is strong.

But we're not getting PG.

I hope we wouldn't give up Brown or Tatum for him.

However, we could trade whomever we sign with the trade exception, Marcus Morris, Rozier, and Nader would match salaries. Smart or Yabusele could be included in other iterations of the trade.

But wouldn't the Thunder rather ride with George and take the chance that he resigns? Morris would probably fit their system, and Smart would be going home. Yabusele has the highest upside of anyone we could offer. Rozier would probably get the Oladipo treatment.

Wouldn't we rather ride with our young guys and see what we can do? I'm all about lineups with 3-4 small forwards on the court, so I'm not worried about playing time. My thing is that I'd rather see what Yabusele can turn into, or I'd rather have Rozier and Morris on a cost-controlled contract for another year, than risk George leaving.

Aside from the crazy money it would cost, PG13 is not a positional need any more.    George would play SF or PF and prefers to play SF.   We’ve got SF and PF covered for the foreseeable future (provided we pay the luxury tax).  Really our team is stacked and the only need is at Center.

PG = Uncle Drew, check the box done!
SG = Brown, he’s looking like the real deal, check the box done!
SF = Hayward, he’ll be back, check the box done!
PF = Big Al is holding it down, but the future belongs to Tatum at the 4, check the box done!
C = 2018 LAL pick, fingers crossed.  Any of Bagley, Ayton, or Bamba would be awesome!

The only move worth making is trying to fleece Okafor from Philly for a player like Nader or a second round pick.

How can we reasonably match salaries? Remember it's for half season so I'd like to highlight the word REASONABLY.

Explained earlier. We sign a guy for the full injury exception (8.4 million). Trade him after 60 days with some 8.2 million dollar combo of Smart, Morris, Rozier, Nader, Ojeyle, or Yabusele.

I would hope we wouldn't give up Brown or Tatum for him.

I'm not sure but I expect there is a rule against doing that.

Even so, we wouldn't do it. We wouldn't be able to afford to resign him so you're dismantling a well oiled team to add a someone who could take the rest of the season to fit in.

Ainge should be spending all of his time looking at the college kids and building relationships for the 2022 free agency period. The team as constructed is set to compete.

With what assets?   That should answer your question because it will take a lot to get him, far more than Ainge would ever pay.

Melo will try to fit in Golden State cap at any price next year. Last try.
