The Mavs have been playing 500 ball for the last month. The Jazz are only about 4 games behind them and have been getting healthier (Gobert returned, Favors about to). It would be nice if that pick ended up in the 15th/16th spot with the Mavs as the 7th/8th seed. It would be hard for them to miss the playoffs entirely. Although, Sacramento is only 5 games from the Mavs themselves.

Interestingly there are only 6 teams with no hope of catching dallas. PHI, BKN, LA, MIN, PHX, DEN and maybe portland 7. Only a little bit of luck needed now to make that a top 10 pick. All eyes on houston at the deadline Odds up to 35% it is top 10. Danny is some sort of witch.

You're right, Sacto may be able to close the gap.
Being an old team with multiple (and recent) serious injury histories could see a key player go down. I think losing Mathews,  Dirk, Parsons or Pachulia would severely damage their playoff hopes.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

My hope is that they would finish at least at the 16th spot so we may have a bigger chance to move into the top 10 by packaging our picks. Poeltl, Stone, Korkmaz would be nice late lottery pick.

Interestingly, based on the model Basketball-reference,com uses the Mavs should have 3 less wins (that is be 20-22). The advantage of savvy vets combined with a go to guy and some secondary guys to go to. OTOH, the Cs should have a 3 more victories (that is be 25-16). We have the 5th youngest roster and while IT has performed at an all-star level, there isn't really a second guy yet identified to bail the Cs out consistently down the stretch.

I'd be a liar if I said I wasn't following the Mavs this year due to our owning their 2016 1st round pick (top-7 protected). However, that being said, after last night's heart-breaker, I now officially give up on that pick! It's so frustrating watching them overachieve. Maybe it's greedy to expect that pick to be better than top-18 given that we have the Brooklyn pick...

Pretty good night for the mavs pick with Memphis pulling even and Sacramento pulling out a win against a pretty good opponent.

I too am giving up on following the pick.  Hoped it would be 13-18 range but they keep finding a way to win. I will just see what it is at end of the season.

I have a really hard time rooting against Dallas after their win over Miami.  They will forever be in my heart for that

I really like Dirk and I have nothing against them generally, but I have no trouble rooting against them because they have our pick. Celts come before anything else, I'll worry about rooting for them in the playoffs bc it wont matter then.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

Mavs starting to get interesting.   If Utah can catch a little fire and Sac and Houston can keep it up, Mavs have a chance to fall out of the playoffs.

Right now, #9 in the West is good for #10 in the draft.
