To be clear, it's not quite a contract extension; it's Horford opting out and signing a new three year deal.

After the AD trade and assuming Kyrie is gone, Horford's decision is the biggest "sliding door" for the next few seasons.

If Horford stays the Celts will still have the lynchpin of their offensive and defensive gameplan, even if he is past the point where he can carry a team or be counted on to play big minutes every night all season long.

If Horford leaves, the Celts basically have to create a new gameplan from scratch on both ends.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Man, I really hope he sticks around. We're likely in quite a bad way if he leaves. Plus, I'd miss his level-headedness

Yeah he's been a great pro while here. You need some one like him for the locker room for the you guys. But I'd get it if he wants a better shot at winning a title.

They could also be talking about trade spots too. Let Horford pic a few spots and DA kicks some tires.

How devastating would it be after Kyrie leaving and no AD, if Al chose to leave, as welll? He has been the most valuable part of our line-up for the past 3 years and, while he isn't exactly a premier scorer, his defense, unselfishness, ability to spread the floor, and leadership has been essential to this franchise.

If he wants to stay, we need to keep him.

Love Al and hope he finishes his career here.  Great influence on the younger guys.  If he bolts with Kyrie, where would that leave us capwise?

If we renounce everything close to 35 mil

If we keep the 3 firsts closer to 30

53 wins and a trip to ECF? I'll take that any day over last year's team.

+1.   I think Al has been pretty consistent his whole time here.  His first year he was at 14/7/5 assists per game...I don't think that = suckage.

That and those basic stats do not even begin to capture his true value as a player.

I won't blame Al if he chooses to go elsewhere to try to win a ring.  He's obviously not getting any younger.  But I'd sure as heck like to have him back.

I just like Al's demeanor and quiet leadership. Doesn't say / do stupid things, he is just quietly very good.  I hope that he and DA can agree on him opting out and resigning with a lower salary for more years.
