Ouch. Kind of cold. I'm not sure why the test would be that complicated that it would take weeks.

This is actually very interesting.  I am really curious what their rules are for someone to compete as a woman.

I find it interesting that they call it a "Gender" test, as Gender is not actually a biological term.  For example, someone with male genetalia, hormones, and genetics could in fact be considered of the female gender.  It is a psychological identity term.  If they are looking at only if she is a biological woman, then they would instead be doing a "Sex" test.

My guess is they only allow full transexuals (who have both changed their gender, and their sex through surgery and hormone treatment), but it is tough to tell.

Of course these are relatively new terms (or uses of them) for many scientists, let alone sports writers, so perhaps they just didn't report it correctly.

The verification requires a physical medical evaluation, and includes reports from a gynecologist, endocrinologist, psychologist, an internal medicine specialist and an expert on gender.

i think that's why it takes so long to do. it's not a matter of equipment but of genetics.

Right, but Gender is not something that can be tested by genetics.

BTW, here's a picture of the runner in question:

I don't know if that's a man or not, but I'm pretty sure that's the exact face I'd be making if I'd just done the world's fastest Buffalo Bill dance.  Goodbye horses indeed.

Do you think we could trade Tony Allen for him/her?  ;)

I'm hoping like hell we can  ;)  Also, I just realized a well-placed comma on that nametag would make for a pretty big hint.  I need to stop thinking about this before I get myself banned.
