Seeing Khris Middleton make crazy shots over Marcus Smart and still hitting huge 3's at the end (or, really, at any moment) of the game made me think : who's the biggest Celtics killer you remember from your time following the team?
You know, these players that can are often role players, sometimes even scrubs, but who, for whatever reason, play lights out against the Celtics and thus that you are really worried about when they are on the court ?
Obviously Khris Middleton comes to mind but I remember, during our series against Orlando in '09 and '10, that I was more worried about the Magic with Gortat on the floor than Howard.
-
This series definitely Middleton.
-
Probably Kelly Olynyk. Killed us both as a member and opponent

Game 7 vs Washington last season?
-
Zeller with the revenge game 6, posting an efficient 28/12.
Then follows it up with 31/16!
After the series Brad admits that he didn't know what he had on his roster in prior years.

No one on here old enough to remember Andrew Toney?
-
In my lifetime it's hard to pick someone. LeBron's domination of the entire Eastern Conference narrative has prevented us from matching up with another team consistently.
I'm going back to the early 2000's with an unconventional pick. Anyone remember how badly Kenyon Martin used to abuse Antoine Walker in the playoffs? Antoine was bad for two seasons in a row against the Nets. The year following our Eastern Conference finals run was absolutely terrible.

Before my time but thanks to ESPN classic I learned quite a bit about Toney when I was a kid. Didn't the injuries hit hard right as he was entering his prime?

David Stern

one of my fondest memories of the old Celtic-Sixer rivalry --> Game against the C's in the early 80's. Toney killing us as usual and hounding Tiny bringing the ball up the court in a hurry. Rick Robey sets a pick where Toney runs into him almost at full tilt, bounces off him about 6-8 feet right on his back. Robey's just standing there afterwards looking at Toney and wasn't budged an inch. loved it.
-
Reggie Bleeping Miller!

K-Mart is a good one. Kittles hurt the Celtics too.
Obviously, Kidd hurt them the most but if we're just talking role players, those two come to mind.

If the OP is looking for a player who wasn't a superstar or didn't play with teams loaded with stars, then Sam Cassell gets my vote for the player who suddenly turned 'all world' when playing against the C's.
FWIW: Andrew Toney was definitely a Celtic killer, but he played along side a group of Hall of Famers. Who in fairness to him played against a group of Hall of Famers on the Boston Celtics.
Sorry, modified after initial post...Most unheralded Celtic killer in playoff history. Nick Weatherspoon by a country mile. Couldn't miss anything in one of the Celtic-Bullets series in the 70's. (74-75?)

For a while now, teams that can get a shooter on the corner 3 has often been killers for us. I recall Mo Williams doing just that for example while on Cleveland.
And then you got guys like Thompson, when we didn't have someone to put on him. And those that we could, weren't on the floor.
-
Last ten years it has to be LeBron James.
Everyone I could think of was just someone making threes or dunks off of LeBron killing us, so I think we just have to acknowledge its just LeBron.
-
1. Cocaine
2. Andrew Toney
3. David Stern is a fkn C's hater! May Red haunt him forever.

The main thing I remember about Mo Williams was whomever he guarded in 2009-2010 we just ran our offense through them for long stretches to abuse him.

I agree with this 100%. We have taken a lotta lumps from Lebron. We got by him a few times in the KG/PP/Rondo/RA era, but he has been the biggest one lately.

Andrew Toney
"Microwave" Vinnie Johnson
Magic Johnson
Lebron James
-
If we're going by stars, it HAS to be Lebron for the past decade. There really isn't anyone else that's close.
-
For non-stars, I always hate when we play against Enes Kanter. The dude just gets offensive rebound after offensive rebound with easy put-backs.
Greg Monroe was always a problem - probably a good thing we signed him.

You are definitely correct if you include stars. LeBron has been the toughest opponent.
The OP's original post though...
" You know, these players that can are often role players, sometimes even scrubs, but who, for whatever reason, play lights out against the Celtics and thus that you are really worried about when they are on the court ?"
LeBron played lights out against every team in the League almost all the time. If we are including stars, then just about any SA Spur starter would fit the bill.(Since we only played SA twice a year we say LeBron. Playing the Spurs 4 times a year we might feel Tim Duncan would get our vote.
-

Absolutely. Funny, I think about him almost every day because at my job our QA team is made up of two guys named Andrew and Tony. And when their manager says their names, she says "Andrew Tony" ... not "Andrew and Tony". So, I'm reminded of the pain on a daily basis. Hopefully we don't hire "Bobby Jones" next. ;)
-
Why has nobody mentioned Devin Booker yet? Probably because he does it in a losing effort. So, I guess he's the biggest Celtics pest.

Ahem...
Andrew Toney
"Microwave" Vinnie Johnson
Magic Johnson
Lebron James

I agree. Thorn in Bostons rear.
That kid for Suns , has lit up Boston a time or two. He is an insane scorer .

Always in a losing effort. A killer means you get the job done.

I'm aware of that. Hence, my earlier post on K-Mart & Kittles. This convo keeps drifting into star territory.

Sorry, I agree the topic keeps drifting. Can't keep track of who posts what sometimes. The old usenet alt.sports...celtics forums were better for that.

yup. very well with the sixers. he played college ball not far from me.

It was only one playoff series. Some things you never forget... Bullets vs. Celtics 1975. Bullets win in 6.
Keep in mind this was in an era when you were allowed to play defense and there wasn't a 3 point shot to offset accurate 2 point shooting.
Nick Weatherspoon - Washington Bullets 1975 playoffs.
Game 2 FG 9/13 =69.2%
Game 4 FG 8/10 =80%
Game 6 FG 7/11 = 63.6%
Nick's shooting in games 1,3 and 5 was somewhat unremarkable. FG 10/21 =47.6%
FYI: Nick died in 2008
Not to take anything away from Kris Middleton. He's on fire this entire series and definitely killing the Celtics. Here are his numbers.
Game 1 FG 12/20 = 60% 3P 5/7 = 71.4% eFG = 72.5%
Game 2 FG 10/14 = 71.4% 3P 4/6 = 66.7% eFG = 85.7% (edited)
Game 3 FG 10/17 = 58.8% 3P 3/6 = 50% eFG = 67.6%
Game 4 FG 8/14 = 57.1% 3P 3/5 = 60% eFG = 67.9%
Game 5 FG 9/21 = 42.9% 3P 3/6 = 50% eFG = 50.0%
Game 6 FG 7/8 = 87.5 % 3P 2/2 = 100% eFG = 100%

Magic who I would be fine loosing to (sort of)
Andrew Toney. Both of these guys is reason red went after DJ
Isiah Thomas led those cheap pistons to some victories that truly killed me. Hated a large portion of that team
Bernard King would regularly scorch us but I'm not sure I would call him a killer as our team was better
Kareem as a Buck & Laker
As long as it isn't the 2018 Bucks!!

Assuming this only refers to role players (so, no LeBron, Magic, etc), I gotta say that Malcolm Brogdon always seems to play great against us. I know the key to this series has been Middleton so far, but I think he always was a very good player and usually underrated.
But Brogdon, even though he's good, it feels like every time he plays us, he makes a clutch shot.
