Yet another sign that unless Mazz leads us to 18, we’re going back to CBS and Co. in 2023. CBS with GM authority is going to lead to CBS’ team with no tuning out. Let the next great Celtics dynasty begin in 2023.

Adam Himmelsbach: Was told that the Celtics have received permission to speak Clippers assistant Jay Larranaga, a longtime Cs assistant, about joining Joe Mazzulla’s staff. But team has already spoken with several other candidates, too. Considering various paths and options.

Would love to him have him back.   Anything that might help provide some stability right now.

Does he know anything about offense ?

I understand the importance of continuity right now with the team all out of sorts - but we are never going to win a title without some changes in the offensive scheme (and that is singular, not plural). Ball movement did improve ........ among guys standing in one place around the perimeter.

Or they lost two members of the coaching staff and are looking to add back. The CBS experiment did not work. He’s been an incredible GM and thinking he can do two full time jobs is unrealistic. How many coach’s in the NBA are also GM’s? Believe that number is zero.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

The CBS experiment did not work.

Danny hampered him with shoot-first/no-defense PGs he did not want, and young garbage like Nesmith and Langford instead of talent like D-White and Brogdon. He’s been an amazing GM because he knows what kind of roster will jive with great coaching.

Riley did it for years. Belichick has won multiple Super Bowls as GM/HC. It can be done. CBS was not given the players he needed to win it all and the authority he needed to keep everyone dialed in. That will change in 2023 unless Mazz leads us to 18.

The only actual sign is that Brad probably could be the coach right now and isn’t.  It’s a sign that he doesn’t want to coach or at least that he and owners don’t think he’s the right person for the job at this time.  I doubt they are mapping out contingencies for him to return.

Yup. The C's don't want to go backwards. There's a reason CBS was kicked upstairs and after that they got within 2 games of Banner 18.

Jay Larranaga has reportedly decided to remain an assistant under Tyronn Lue with the Los Angeles Clippers rather than return to the Boston Celtics' coaching staff.

Larranaga "prefers to remain" in L.A, where he's a "valued member" of Lue's staff.

Coaching sources say that the Celts are likewise interested in two of the top available former head coaches — Frank Vogel and Terry Stotts — but pessimistic about their chances of luring either to usher the unproven Mazzulla through this massive step up onto the big stage. – via Marc Stein @ marcstein.substack.com
