Is there a follow up move?

This feels like a real overpay.

Really? White is 27, 6'4, he's a plus defender and is averaging 5.6 assists playing next to another guard averaging 9 assists. Richardson was good, but this is a nice get. He needs to shoot a little better but he probably will here because he's playing with two big scorers.

This adds playmaking.

We lost one of our better shooters when we need more shooting. And a 1st?

There's gotta be another shoe to drop.  We've got three open roster spots right now.

Quick reaction:  We're selling low on a first rounder for the second time under Brad

Makes me wonder if Brad is valuing 1st rounders as a coach and not as a gm. Can't see how White is worth this package but hopefully I'm wrong.

Derrick White is being traded to Boston for Josh Richardson, Romeo Langford and a first-round pick, according to Chris Haynes.
This appears to be a steal for the Celtics (assuming the first-round pick doesn't turn out to be a superstar) and while it remains to be seen if White or Marcus Smart will start, the Celtics will have a solid sixth man. A starting lineup of White/Smart, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Al Horford and Robert Williams is formidable while White/Smart and Dennis Schroder (could be traded today) offer depth off the bench. White will take a fantasy hit with a new team and potentially new role but the Celtics got better today. Just hang onto White and Smart until we see how this plays out, although if you want to drop White to take a shot at a hot free agent it may not be the worst idea, either. White was averaging 14.4 points and 5.6 assists in San Antonio and both of those numbers are probably going to take a hit with so many other weapons in Boston.

League sources tell MassLive that Celtics will take Derrick White into Evan Fournier TPE in this trade. They will also create a new TPE for Josh Richardson's outgoing salary ($11.6 million)

Brian Robb

That's a little silly in my book. if true  Richardson+Langford match White's salary, and I think you should keep the bigger exception even if it expires earlier.

Never mind. SA has the right to swap first round picks in 2028. My bad.

For those of you who care about this type of thing, White is an absolute RAPTOR darling:

2019 -- +1.2 offense, +2.2 defense
2020 -- +1.4 offense, +3.2 defense
2021 -- +0.8 offense, +3.4 defense

If you buy that's meaningful, he's a huge upgrade. I always put a lot of salt on that, but it's worth noting when the advanced stats wizards love a guy.

TP for the info. And Brad is a stats guy.

One of the worst Celtics in recent memory. He and Yabusele combined don’t even make a whole NBA player.

Could it be the plan to add shooting by playing Prichard next to White off the bench?

Worth noting that Pritchard would potentially fit well next to White, if our intent is to bring White off the bench.  A defender and distributor like White could free Payton up to just do what he does best - launch.

Yeah, I could see that.

Richardson kind of filled that role, too, though.

Provides some flexibility to move Schroeder for a non-PG without losing your only true viable backup (apologies to Pritchard, and I do think he should play bigger minutes).
