Thanks.

So we’re looking pretty good and I’m going to be hopeful White surprises. Not sure how Ime cannot play Pritchard, though:

White/Pritchard or Buyout candidate?
Smart/Buyout candidate?
Brown/GWill/Nesmith
Tatum/Theis
Timelord/Horford

It would be hilarious if the Rockets bought out Schröder and we brought him right back.

I really like this core. If we go deep this year, bring back JT/JB. If we falter, deal JB for Beal assuming Beal would sign a long-term extension. We can legit win it all with this, particularly if Nesmitn finally blossoms (and/or Pritchard), and we dramatically increase our odds of Tatum re-upping:

White/McConnell via TPE & 2nds/Pritchard
Beal/Smart/Begarin
Tatum/MLE 3-2/Nesmith
Theis/G. Williams
Timelord/Horford

If White disappoints, move him and picks for Brogdon. Love it!

What about this idea:

BOS In: KD
BKN In: JB, Smart

Note: Perhaps Smart goes west to a third team for a pick(s) instead (calling OKC), so the Nets get to build a new core of Simmons, JB and Irving while replenishing all the picks they gave up for Harden (they got two of them in the trade of Harden). I can see this happening if KD forces his way out because he wants to do 2016 the right way where he joins his buddy Horford in Boston. Better late than never, right? KD is turning 34, so it’s hard to see them insisting on picks in addition to JB/Smart, particularly if KD pulls a Harden and says “Boston or bust.”

BOS In: McConnell
IND In: BOS TPE, (2) 2nd Round Picks

Is this good enough to win it all:

White/McConnell/Pritchard
Durant/MLE 2-3/Begarin
Tatum/Same MLE 2-3/Nesmith
Horford/G. Williams
Timelord/Theis

I think you'll have to go for that if it was to get Durant. Instant championship title.

We’ve all read the rumors about Zion being on his way out. He still has one year left on his rookie contract after this season, plus RFA rights, so what about the wild idea below if Zion decides, “yeah, Boston is the big market I want to force myself to, so I can become Zion the Celtic who’s bigger than LeBron the Laker…with JB/JT, I can win many rings! In Boston, I’ll have access to the best physicians in the country…”

BOS In: Zion
NOP In: TPE, 2023 BOS 1st swap, 2024 BOS 1st, 2025 BOS 1st swap, 2026 BOS 1st, 2027 BOS 1st swap, 2022 BOS 2nd, all (3) 2023 BOS 2nds

That’s three swaps, two first-rounders and four second-rounders for a shot at a dynasty. Well worth the gamble IMHO.

Bring back Horford for the title run, onboard a ring-chasing PG/SG (Rubio? Payton II? Mills?), sign a ring-chasing vet at the 3 (Ingles?), bring Begarin in as our 14th man, and leave the 15th slot open for a late-season buyout candidate, so basically go with something like this:

White/Rubio/Pritchard
Brown/Smart/Begarin
Tatum/Ingles/Nesmith
Zion/G. Williams
Timelord/Horford/Theis

There is no doubt Zion is now in Oden territory, so it is a big gamble, but it is also why Zion may be available for picks and the TPE. It’s totally worth the gamble. Get him into the best specialists at Mass. General, rest him all season long until after the ASG if needed, and see what happens.

I am hopeful of a closer parallel to Timelord than Oden. If we could somehow finally get Timelord to play smarter and stay healthy, perhaps we can also pull it off with Zion?

You fellas know I’m Big 3 or Bust, so I absolutely love the gamble. Worst-case, we’re out the picks and need to continue to hope for Tatum and Brown to grow alongside White, Timelord, Smart and Grant Williams. Best-case, we’re the next dynasty led by Big 3 Tatum (age 24)/Zion (age 21)/Brown (age 25), with a great supporting cast of Timelord/White/Smart/Horford/G. Williams. If we achieved the best-case and our Big 3 decide they’re Celtics for life, we could possibly have a dynasty over an entire decade. I’m taking 6-7 titles in 10-11 years. It is possible with this gamble.

BOS picks and swaps would not be that valuable to NOP given the formidable roster Boston would have.

I also don’t believe I d bet on that  Zion can play a full year with out at least one fairly bad sort tear of some joint material , tendon, ligament, bone fracture where he misses 15 or more games .

While we are clearly title contenders now and into the future, if Brown is unwilling to sign an extension this off-season I would prefer to see us deal him now rather than later, officially telling everyone this is Tatum’s team. I’m particularly intrigued by the fact the Spurs may be in a similar situation with Murray this off-season, who may pull a Kawhi and say he wants to go to a big market title contender. If that opportunity arises, this would be a truly masterful series of moves in a 3-team agreement that makes each team better considering the situation with JB/Murray:

TOR In: Brown, Prichard, Richardson, 2024 BOS 1st, 2026 BOS 1st (SAS agree to remove the swap, we send it unprotected)

SAS In: Van Fleet, Nesmith, 2027 BOS 1st swap (unprotected)

BOS In: Murray, Barnes, Birch

The deal obviously needs to come with Murray agreeing to a max contract, and it probably would require a wink and nod that we’ll subsequently use our TPE and 2022 second round pick to take on McDermott from SAS.

Extend Grant Williams, bring back Horford, sign a ring-chasing vet at the MLE, bring in Begarin, and we are set for a dynasty-run where Tatum is top banana and would never walk from all the winning/potential to be the highest paid player in the NBA in his 30s by sticking with Boston:

Murray/White
Smart/White
Barnes/G. Williams
Tatum/Horford
Timelord/Theis

Bench: McDermott, Ring-chasing MLE 1/2, Birch, Stauskas (or ring-chasing vet at the minimum), Begarin

Murray is another guy Ime knows and loves. He is a great defender and better facilitator than Smart, who’s still retained and a starter with White as 6MOTY. Scottie Barnes is already as good of a  defender as Brown, and he may eventually be better in all other dimensions (and he’s only 20 and would be on the team for three years on his rookie deal and then RFA after that, so we’re getting 6-7 years of cost-control on him coupled with maxed out Tatum and Murray).

If Brown signals he’s not interested in re-signing and being second fiddle to Tatum, but is willing to sign a big contract to be the man in Canada…and Murray signals he’s not interested in re-signing with San Antonio and wants to be with Ime in Boston, competing for a title…and Van Fleet wants to return stateside and is willing to be the guy in San Antonio….that’s called three very big reasons for all three teams to engage, particularly if we’re willing to take on Birch’s and McDermott’s dollars, which we are uniquely positioned to do. All the draft picks are to secure Barnes, a Scottie who could truly become the Scottie Pippen to Tatum’s Jordan…

.

Do you think Toronto would take JB for Barnes, Van Fleet and us agreeing to next take Birch with a TPE? I’d go for that. My preference is now for JB to re-sign, but I’m terrified of him leaving us for LA or Miami, and we get nothing.
