We are playing under modern rules. Which would have been the best team? Feel free to select different players if you disagree with my choices.

Golden State Warriors
PG: Steph
SG: Klay
SF: Chris Mullin
PF: KD
C: Wilt

Opted for Mullin over Rick Barry cause he'd be a perfect fit in this team. Four elite shooters, plus Wilt in the paint! How do you stop that? :o

Boston Celtics
PG: Cousy
SG: Hondo
SF: Bird
PF: KG
C: Russell

LA Lakers
PG: Magic
SG: Jerry West
SF: LeBron
PF: AD
C: Kareem

Opted for Kareem over Shaq and Jerry West over Kobe. Can't go wrong with any of these guys.

Philadelphia 76ers
PG: Hal Greer
SG: AI
SF: Dr. J
PF: Barkley
C: Wilt

I guess Mo Cheeks would have been a better fit next to AI. In a vacuum, Greer was the better player. Again, feel free to pick whomever you want.

San Antonio Spurs
PG: Parker
SG: George Gervin
SF: Kawhi
PF: Duncan
C: David Robinson

Opted for Gervin over Ginobili cause Manu thrived in a 6th man role.

Milwaukee Bucks
PG: Oscar Robertson
SG: Ray Allen
SF: Middleton
PF: Giannis
C: Kareem (in his absolute prime)

Opted for Middleton over Dandridge cause he would have been a better option off the ball.

Chicago Bulls
PG: D-Rose
SG: Jordan
SF: Pippen
PF: Rodman
C: Artis Gilmore

Hate the fit, but I wanted to include MJ.

Oklahoma City Thunder
PG: CP3
SG: Harden
SF: Paul George
PF: Durant
C: Ibaka

Opted for CP3 over Westbrook cause I hate Westbrook's game, but that's just me. Technically, I could have also included prime Gary Payton. Thing is, he never actually played for the Thunder. It just feels wrong.

Too tough. If all those teams met who would win is a toss up. Feel if the Warriors are hot it's a rap. Yet Jordan, Pippen and D-Rose is unguardable and they are a defensive juggernaut with Rodman. The Spurs are also a good defensive team. Lakers have extremely talented players but the defense isn't on par with the last two I mentioned, so depends on era for fouls. C's feature tremendous leaders they might will themselves to win or at the very least never lose.

Assuming you can only use a season when the guy played for them, I think the Lakers, Celtics, and Sixers are the clear favorites.

Just to add some other franchises

Utah (this feels like a real team in its makeup and not just an all star team)
PG - Stockton
SG - Maravich or Mitchell
SF - Dantley
PF - Malone
C - Gobert

Houston
PG - Paul
SG - Harden (Clyde)
SF - Pippen or McGrady
PF - Barkley (Sampson and Hayes could work as well)
C - Hakeem (lots of depth with Moses, Ming, Dwight)
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Spurs - Warriors is my finals. Guess the defense with Leonard - Duncan - Robinson all in their prime and their unselfishness and teamwork would win.

Houston…should have a team

Harden, Drexler, Hakeem, Sampson, and Yao Ming….lol

I can’t think of a small forward for Houston but

You can get a great starting five from….Westbrook, Harden, Barkley, Pippen, Sampson, Olajuwon, Yao Ming, Chris Paul, Drexler.

Hmm.  If we’re trying to win a modern title…

Russell / Parish / Cowens
KG / McHale / Antoine
Bird / Hondo / Tatum
Pierce / Ray / Brown
JoJo / DJ / IT

Two-way:  Tiny, Ainge

My team, my rules.  I hated leaving off Horford and Good Rondo

Moses Malone should start as the big next to Hakeem. Two time MVP with the Rockets and led them to the Finals. 3 MVPs with Harden, Moses and Hakeem. Drexler and McGrady as versatile wings next to them..

They have a wealth of big men…that team you listed will be a tough out for anyone.

Bird, Parish and McHale had such great chemistry and were so very dominant, I hate breaking up that trio, even if it is to include KG and Russell.

I might be inclined to leave that entire 1986 Celtics starting lineup intact and use that as the Celtics lineup. The chemistry and fit were near perfection.

I didn't start 2 centers as I don't think that would work well under modern rules, but if you started doing that the Sixers could have Wilt and Moses or the Lakers could have 2 of Wilt, Kareem, Shaq.

The more I think about it, the more I really like the Bucks.

You have the first championship trio in Oscar, Dandridge, and Kareem and then add one of the greatest shooters of all time in Allen and the current best player in the world in Giannis.  Their bench would be solid as well with Moncrief, Redd, Middleton, Big Dog, Marques, Pressey, Bogut, Sikma, Brook, Jrue.

I think they Bucks would be a pretty cohesive unit that would work well in modern ball.

Another one that is interesting is the Nets if you allow the ABA so you can get Dr. J and Rick Barry, though center would likely be an issue for them.

PG - Kidd
SG - Barry
SF - Dr. J
PF - Durant
C - Brook

Bench - Irving, Deron, Harden, Carter, King, Buck Williams, Jayson Williams
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Playing modern NBA basketball, no team on earth would defeat this starting five.

I'd play Shaq over Kareem. Shaq would be unstoppable in the modern era.

Dropping AD for Kobe would be interesting also.

G: West
G: Kobe
F: LeBron
F: Magic
C: Shaq

Spread out the court around Shaq.
