A somewhat interesting idea. Giving up on Tatum could be premature. However I'd strongly considering this.

The guy's got a defensive rating of 112 which is even worse than Rajon Rondo. No thanks.

Nah.

I might give him up for Jaren Jackson Jr., but not Ayton.

I firmly believe that Ayton is being grossly misused and that his defense has as much to do with his wings as it does him.

I would strongly consider it, especially if team keeps picks.

Better question is; would PHX trade Ayton for Tatum?

I have to think the answer to that is a resounding "No".

I would pull the trigger on that.

Ayton is underrated, Tatum overrated.

Tatum is pretty redundant here, Ayton brings a new dynamic.

His defense can’t be worse than Tatum’s currently is.

16/10/2/1/1 on 58%/75% shooting is pretty impressive for a rookie.

The guy's got a defensive rating of 112 which is even worse than Rajon Rondo. No thanks.

Two factors in increasing order of importance:

1) He's a rookie -- most rookies struggle to learn NBA defense, especially bigs.
2) Over 68% of his minutes have been with Devin Booker on the floor.  Booker is possibly the worst defender in the NBA.

In the minutes Ayton has played WITHOUT Booker, his DefRtg is ~5 points better.
NBA Officiating - Corrupt?  Incompetent?  Which is worse?  Does it matter?  It sucks.

Wouldn't be the first time.

Pull the trigger, all the reasons are right here are on page 1.

So why exactly does PHX do this? I'd like to hear a compelling reason why.

Perceived higher upside. flashback to the end of last year when Tatum look like a future top 10 player in the NBA.

ayton has look good but he's never had a stretch like Tatum did in the playoffs I'm sure there's some GM's that are still extremely high on Tatum

Center is a tough position to fill in today's NBA.   With a more than 50% chance at a top 4 pick in the draft with no high lottery caliber talent at the C position, wouldn't PHX be better served by keeping Ayton & adding a Zion or Morant to a Booker/Ayton core?

I don’t think that’s weighing on anyone’s mind at the moment. Ayton is putting up really solid numbers and is an athletic freak, while being younger and cost-controlled for longer.

No way PHX does it
