Just thought I would create a new thread to hear how people are feeling about the Roster.
1. Gordon Hayward $31,214,295
2. Al Horford $28,928,710
3. Kyrie Irving $20,099,189
4. Jayson Tatum $6,700,800
5. Marcus Morris $5,375,000
6. Aron Baynes $5,193,600
7. Jaylen Brown $5,169,960
8. Terry Rozier $3,050,390
9. Guerschon Yabusele $2,667,600
10. Robert Williams $1,654,440
11. Daniel Theis $1,378,242
12. Semi Ojeleye $1,378,242
13. Abdel Nader $1,378,242 (450K guaranteed, remainder guarantees 1 August)
14. Brad Wanamaker $838,464
Demetrius Jackson $92,857 (stretched & waived)
Guaranteed Total: $112,337,270 (About 113.2 if and when Nader remainder guarantees)
So that is 14 players currently under contract. There is Marcus: let's assume his has to settle for the QO, and we sneak in under the taxline. That's 15.
I presume then we could waive Nader's remaining salary, re-open the 15th slot, and use the MLE. That, or SOME of that, could be used to give Bird the 15th full roster spot, or if not him, some other FA, but that remaining FA pool doesn't contain any players who should earn anywhere near 8.6, so the smart move would seem to be to wait for the buyout market (although I'm not sure who might become available then).
[Let's assume Hassan Martin and Pierria Henry get the two-ways.]
I suppose there is always the chance that we could dump Morris' deal on someone with space, offer Smart more money, and let Nader guarantee, but I will ignore that scenario in honor of not wanting to tempt fate.
What other scenarios do you see playing out?

I think that is an excellent summary of the situation.
Unless Danny has a huge ace up his sleeve.

There's a tool on Shamsports.com that allows you to add players and evaluate the team's salary. (I learned this from a thread started by Roy a few days ago.)
I signed Smart to the qualifying offer, signed Bird, cut and stretched Nader. That left us $1.8 million under the luxury tax which could be useful come the late season buy outs.

I'll be psyched if this is what happens. Hopefully, we could then sign Smart to a long term contract next season when we'll be way over the tax anyway.

Nader and Yabu should be moved, imo. #MakeWayForUthoff ;D

I don't really have a big problem with moving Yabu..but wouldn't you want to get a player back for Yabu? Or are you ready to give up on him?
Nader has little trade value (small salary), but combining Morris and Yabu would raise a few eyebrows. You could take just one roster slot back, and still keep the 15th spot for Uthoff (shudder). Who would you want though? (assuming you want to get a player back in the deal of course..)
Isn't still best idea is to wait until the deadline/buyout, and actually try snag someone who will contribute
-
You forgot Jabari Bird. IMO, he was the lone bright spot in what was otherwise mostly disappointing individual performances in SL. I would give him a two-way.
Pierria Henry is likely going back to Europe where he can make some coin.
Let go of Abdul Nader, Hassan Martin, Jarred Uthoff and Trey Davis after training camp.

13. Abdel Nader $1,378,242
He should be cut and replaced by Bird.
He does not play D and is a terrible ball hog.

That would be a nice upgrade. Hopefully could be done while keeping us under the luxury line.

I'd keep Yabu unless they are getting some value, which is unlikely given that he hasn't shown much yet. But I would give him one more year to see if he can improve. His first year in China seems to have been a waste, let's see if he responds to good coaching.
-
I'd look into trading Nader into another team's cap space (and giving them cash for the trouble) before waiving/stretching him. 150k isn't much now, but it could be the difference between getting a buyout guy or not

I think they can stretch him over 7 years, so it’s closer to $64k.

It's likely that Kawhi will get traded this summer. Unfortunately, chances are that he 'll force his way to the Lakers. That being said, I still hope he 'll end up in Boston. A man can dream. 8)

Yeah I’d give Yabu 1 more year. I thought I remember seeing somewhere he started playing basketball late in childhood so maybe he’ll be a late bloomer (he was playing soccer and boxing). He’s got some nice physical tools and hopefully he’ll enhance his skills.

I remember reading that the C's are thinking about holding the MLE through the season in case someone becomes available.

Im not sure that Bird is going to make the roster. I think Danny is hoping to keep him on another 2-way.

Who/what did you have in mind? I was thinking of something along the lines of a second rounder from a team like Phoenix in next year's draft and a certain someone on their G League team ;) ;D, but, wait, don't we have, like, 4 first round picks, next year? :o
Crap, lol ;D.

I don’t know if I can take 7 more years of looking at Nader’s name when looking up Celtics team salary on Hoopshype/Spotrac. It’s been annoying enough with Demetrius Jackson and I didnt mind him. Best to just cut the cord now and suffer the consequences ;) (actually, not really - I am one of those who is a bit obsessed with staying under the tax this year).
-
Should be news soon on who is getting camp invites and disposition of the players from our summer league roster. I'm sure Danny and Brad are scouring the other teams rosters to see who they will invite.

good lord. Ainge has him under contract for 3 more years? that's got to be one of his most bone-headed signings.

This year is partially guaranteed ($450k if waived before Aug 1), and the next two years are non-guaranteed.

As one of the only people supporting Nader on this site, maybe only because I am an ISU alum, I don't think DA looks like a bone head if he only owes 450k to Nader and the other years aren't guaranteed. With all of the other wings on our team, I wouldn't be shocked to not see Abdel not back this season.
I will probably need to throw my ISU support to Niang (jazz), Burton (OKC), Morris (Denver for now) and hope one of those guys makes their teams roster.

Absolutely love Deonte Burton, Niang is excellent, offensively, and Monte Morris is apparently dating Amber Rose, LOL :o ;D. #RandomFactsOfTheDay ;D
