Vince Carter was the one who immediately came to my mind. Around 2010-11 I thought he was a quitter and a whiner and wasted a lot of his potential. Now, almost a decade later, he's carved out a niche as a solid veteran and seems to really enjoy playing basketball in a way I've found really endearing.

And btw, I still hate Stephen A. Smith. Still a hack.

How about Nicolas Cage?

At first I hated him.

Then he made Vampire's Kiss, Red Rock West, and Wild at Heart.

So I loved him.

But he hasn't done anything I like in over 20 years.

So now I hate him.

I started the thread after watching SAS on ESPN the other day, and it got me to thinking....

Also I'm getting real close to my 10,000th post, and had to think of something to keep the ball moving!!

Man forgot about Vince Carter, he did not handle that exit from Toronto well, was easy to dislike the guy watching him loaf and whine in TOR that last partial season there.

Look at the splits, do these look like the splits of a guy who was giving his all in TOR in '05?

TOR '04: 24.5ppg, 4.8rpg, 4.8apg
TOR '05: 15.9ppg, 3.3rpg, 3.1apg
NJN '05: 27.5ppg, 5.9rpg, 4.7apg

Now granted he only played 20 game in TOR, and getting traded to a new team and playing with Jason Kidd would boost anybody's numbers, and he was also playing fewer minutes when the dip happened.  But no matter what stats you look at (Per-36, Per-100-Poss, Advanced), there was a big drop there from Vince Carter seemingly not caring in Toronto anymore.

Now he comes off like the classy locker room vet, and has for a while.  Hard not to like role player Vince.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

So I have another guy: Russell Wilson. When we faced off against the Seahawks in the super bowl, I always thought he was a bit overrated in how big of a part he actually played in the success of his teams. Plus he's a bit of a weirdo. However, over the years I think he's become one of the most well rounded quarterbacks in the league. So many QBs have been excused of their mediocre play due to having a bad O-line (alot of these are very valid), but Wilson consistently puts up great number even with a suspect o-line.

Maybe an unpopular one: Lebron.

Guy was the worst when the C’s were facing off against him. But his work ethic is unassailable. He’s a good dad. He values winning immensely. He has a healthy respect for history, and the game, and his place within it. And he’s just plain incredible. Top-5 all time AT LEAST. Probably top-2. Gotta tip your cap.

Mmmm, when he temporarily gave up No. 23 to honor Jordan but took No. 6 (Bill Russell), I felt like he didn't really have a good sense of basketball history.

You might check out Mom and Dad. It's a horror movie that came out last year and was totally nuts but if you're ok with that, it's a lot of fun and Cage is, of course, suitably nuts for the movie.

Paul Pierce for some weird reason. Then I actually got to watch some Boston Celtics basketball and the truth set me free

I think alot of people may have been a little leery of Paul pre-2007. The talent was there but there some talk about his defense, decision making, etc.

I think he really started to mature in 2005 when he was the elder of the team and then having KG and Ray by his side in 2007 helped elevate him to the consummate pro he ended up becoming.

Definitely. I think Pierce caught some stink (maybe unfairly) from the 2002 FIBA games and I think he picked up some bad habits when Antoine Walker was the leader of the team. That he stuck around in Boston long enough to grow, mature, and change the narrative is amazing. It just doesn't happen like that.

But, of course, I started watching basketball in 2001 so I always loved him.

Or Mandy! Best movie of 2018 in my opinion.
