Cavaliers Nation @WeAreCavsNation
Sources: Cavs and Pelicans discussing deal that would send Iman Shumpert and Brooklyn pick to New Orleans and DeMarcus Cousins to Cleveland.
Thoughts on this?
-
Why wouldn't they have just dealt Kyrie for Cousins?
Seems like a better deal for the pelicans that want to win now....
-
Hobbs is gonna have a field day with this...

I don't think Kyrie was ever going to resign in NOLA, even with his good friend AD there..
-
Oh, that would be precious, watching DeMarcus and LeBron clash. Lebron deserves that I hope it happens.
-
So, can we have Davis?
LA pick, Al, Tatum, Memphis pick, our pick, Danny, Noam Chomsky, 4 Duck boats, John Farrell, Brady.
-
Cavs and Pels are confusing franchises. They trade Kyrie and want young players/picks in return, awaiting life after Lebron James. They'll then turn around and trade the pick for a 1 year rental in Cousins so that Lebron might stay?
The Pels just traded for Cousins last February by giving up a young prospect in Buddy Hield. They're already prepared to trade Cousins for the 2018 Nets pick and get a young prospect again? Granted Hield was 23, but he looked real good in his 25 games in Sactown.
-
If this deal goes through it just may open the door for a Al Horford, Jayson Tatum and the LAL pick, if it qualifies for this year, being dealt for the Brow, if he asks to be traded after the season.
Al will have 3 years left but he's still got some game left for sure. The Brooklyn pick, Tatum and LAL pick will be a good get for NOLA to start another re-build. (edit: I understand we'd likely have to add a T. Rozier/M. Smart or/and one of the up and coming youngsters.....or a 2nd rounder we don't have until 2023 :)
The timing couldn't be perfect if something like this happens.
We'd be the Kings of the North with a shot at the NBA throne.
-
Good.
I would say this would make it one step closer to the AD dream.
-
Yay, Cleveland gets even more dysfunctional!
-
Would say this is just a rumor.
I don't think this opens up the gates for an Anthony Davis trade. The value of Nets pick is still extremely high, although, I think the pick will eventually end up around 4th-7th spot. They'll trade to panic trade for an disgruntled pseudo Allstar lol.
-

Because IT+Crowder+Zizic+Cousins is better than Shumpert+Cousins
-
This doesn't make any sense and doesn't really seem possible. They didn't give holiday 30 million a year to immediately be on a rebuild. Cousins makes 7 million more than shumpert so deal doesn't seem to work with out more pieces. Think just a made up rumor we fell for.

yeah, i saw somewhere that a shumpert, frye and the pick works just fine
-
its probably their response to Lebron throwing a fit after the Kyrie trade. The front office must be scrambling to get him a star player with the Nets pick before he demands to leave this season.
-
Superb decision. Cleveland should be shopping that Brooklyn pick hard for a 4th star.
Cousins would be a superb fit for the rest of their team. Give them more interior play. Something different to what Boston and Golden State have. Make Cleveland more difficult to matchup with. More of a threat.
-
Well, a healthy IT, Lebron, Crowder, Love, and a sane Cousins would definitely walk through us in the conference finals. But, the possibility of Cousins and Lebron clashing seems like a good chance as well. But, the talent would be insane. Who would even get a rebound from our team vs Cousins and Love? That team could challenge the warriors if somehow they figured out how to get most of Cousins and have him buy into a system that Kyrie fled. If somehow Cousins fit in with that squad, it could change Lebron from leaving if they beat the Warriors. That lineup would be formidable for a few more years.
A healthy IT, Crowder, Zizic and Cousins is easily more valuable than Kyrie, and it is even close. There are a lot of what if's though with those players.
This is the exact type of trade I could see happening though. Whatever Lebron wants, Lebron gets and if he doesn't, or is unhappy, he cries and bolts.

Wow I actually thought of this trade yesterday.
Not this exact trade, but Thompson BKN pick for Cousins.
This would make Cleveland favorites against GSW again.
-
It's worth noting that if the Pelicans trade Cousins for a pick, Davis is probably the next to go, and his most likely destination would be the Celtics.
If the Pelicans wanted to start rebuilding, it was worth their while to wait until Cleveland traded for the Brooklyn pick to trade Cousins. The Celtics had the two most valuable first round draft picks in the league, and there was no way that NO was getting both. Now, they can trade Cousins for Brooklyn and AD for LA and prospect(s), rather than selling AD for one and getting a poor return for Cousins.
-
This would be really bad for the Celtics as well it might keep Lebron in Cleveland.
-

Ok but the signing of holiday to 150 million contract and then pivoting to a rebuild before a game is played? It doesn't even make business sense. We are better than these fake rumors from
Teotter

My thoughts on this:
1. If the Cavs were willing to do this without signing Boogie to an extension they would be fools.
2. It would be pretty satisfying for the cave to watch Lebron Boogie and Isaiah walk after the season
3. I don't see how cousins Thompson and love fit so I think you would have to trade love or Thompson in another deal.
4. If Nola trades cousins they might as well trade Davis too.
-

Disagree. Cleveland should go all-in for one last run at a Championship.
They can start all over again afterwards. An extra year rebuilding is well worth a shot at a title.

It's a win win for Cleveland. If it works out you get a championship and the guys probably resign. If doesn't work, they leave you clear your cap almost immediately and you get a fresh start. If I were the Cavs GM I would absolutely sacrifice the Brooklyn Pick for the current contender. This current cavs team is a bird in hand, there future and the pick is in the bush.

can't believe there's actually people on this board that want lebron on this team. Watch lebron demand another star then leave anyways leaving Cleveland with no one left but Kevin love
Cousins contract ends this year too

They've already traded away several of their future 1sts though. The Brooklyn pick was a way of making up for some of those lost picks for guys like Mozgov. Its a tough call, go all in and mortgage the future, or start rebuilding now. They've already seen how much of a crap shoot rebuilding through the draft is, so I dont blame them for going for it this year. Still, I guess it comes down to, do they really think they can beat GS?

Nothing here... At all. Bogus source looking for followers. I saw this yesterday as soon as it was retweeted and refused to post this nonsense here.

Yea we should have this relabeled to "fan trade idea" cause current title is inaccurate.

Why the Pelicans would do it is a whole different story. Kyrie isn't available, and they didn't have enough to get him when he was
-
It's a nonsense report, but if the Cavs could pull it off I'd like them more than the Dubs. Figure for salaries the deal is Shump + Frye.
Cousins / Thompson / Zizic
Love / Green
Crowder / Jefferson / Osman
IT / Smith / Korver
Lebron / Rose / Calderon
Too bad they'd have Lue coaching.
But, unless Gilbert sells the team in the next couple months, this won't happen.
-
Lol at the title update

I am still waiting for that Chris Broussard image.
-

No it wouldn't
If Cousins fits in well and IT is healthy, it would. IT, Smith, Lebron, Love, Cousins is a nasty staring lineup. Lots of scoring to relieve Lebron's offensive load. Lots of shooters to keep the lane clear for IT and Lebron drives. How does GSW guard Cousins with that lineup? Add Crowder off the bench to relieve Lebron's defensive load.
-
I don't see how cousins fits. Lebron played with prime Shaq and couldn't get it done. I don't see how playing with another ball dominant center changes anything for the better
-

"Prime Shaq"?
Do you even attempt to back up your points? You mean "37 year old, one year away from injury-forced retirement" Shaq?
-
Are there any reports that aren't fan sourced to back this up? The only legit thing I've seen is that the Pels were interested in Shumpert and somehow, we're here now. I don't buy it. Pelicans are going all in on this experiment and won't deal DMC until the deadline and that's only if the first half of the season is a flaming pile of garbage.
-
There would be a certain hilariousness to Bron, Cousins, JR Smith, Crowder, and IT on the same team.
There'd have to be a strict no guns policy. Would that team set the tattoo record?
Poor Zizic.
-
This would be a wild overpay for Cousins. He is an expiring contract and the BKN pick is a potential star with up to 8 year team control. This is not even a fan theory/rumor. It's just nonsense.
Even with shumpert being negative value on his contract this is ridiculous. No way they deal the BKN pick for anything other than a young star on a multi-year deal. Think KP or better.
-
If we are pretending this is legit (very far-fetched), it would give the Cavs one great opportunity at a championship this year, but they absolutely couldn't keep this team together next season. They are already well into the luxury tax, can you imagine Cousins with a $15M/yr increase and IT with a $20M/yr increase? That would be an insane penalty!
It also has all the makings of a BKN 2013-14 go-for-it situation with KG and PP, except for in this instance, half of the Cavs roster would be insane. If/when it blew up, the Cavs would be left with nothing and NOP would hold a very valuable pick (plus Shumpert).

In his defense, it was only really like 8 years past his prime. LOL Prime Shaq.

i agree, i'm not saying that i bought it...the pelicants, if they really wanna trade him(and they don't), can get a much better deal, it is not a fire sale(yet)
-
If the Pelicans season does not go well -- and I expect it will not -- then I can see this trade being on the table at the trade deadline in February. I doubt anyone else will be willing to top it given Cousins' impending FA status.
-
We better get used to this, because as long as Cleveland has that pick they're gonna be connected to every trade rumor in the league, just like we've been. Here's hoping they hold onto it all year.
-

I have a tough time believing Cleveland would put that pick on the table for a half season of Cousins, but I also thought there was no chance it'd be available for Kyrie Irving.

it would not happen for 2 reasons:
1. Demarcus cousins value whether he has 3 years left or 1 month left is terrible , and has not changed positively since being traded. He was traded for a 2nd rounder, he isn't worth a lottery pick after 4 months of being traded for a 2nd rounder. Player values don't work like that
2. He is expiring contract. Rentals don't go for a lot
This is how we know the rumor is BS.

What?! He was traded for the #6 pick in 2016 and #10 in 2017.

Perfect, the Cavs go all in and trade the pick for a player that will NEVER stay in Cleveland. That would be Mr. Cousins.
While LBJ goes to LA, and plays out his final contract, then retires and then swoops in to buy the floundering Cavs franchise. Perfect.
