After listening to them for about 3 - 4 months now I still stand by the Wu Tang comparison. They're definitely not a big horrorcore group... they all have different personas and you can tell who they were influenced by.

Tyler and Earl have that sound that is similar to horrorcore and they grew up listening mainly to Eminem as far as rap goes... Tyler is actually really into Jazz. He also likes Kanye West and N.E.R.D.

Domo Genesis is a stoner rapper, but he is much better and much more conscious than rappers like Wiz Khalifa.

Mike G is a gangster rapper, smooth flow, his content involves girls, robberies, murder, etc. not so much rape (The group has a bad reputation where people think they all talk about rape, when only Tyler and Earl really do that).

Mellowhype (Hodgy and Left Brain) has the Gang Starr like set up. Left Brain is a much better producer than Tyler. Hodgy is probably the second best lyricist in the group behind Earl.

Frank Ocean has been compared to Drake. He's an R&B singer/rapper. Lupe Fiasco absolutely loves this guy.

The group enjoys Waka Flocka Flame... the first hour of the show last night you would have thought it was an Eminem, Beastie Boys, Waka Flocka concert. The crowd was amped before the show even started!

Above is the best video I've found from last night so far...

Warning: Lyrics again...

I'm just going to continue trying to sell Odd Future to everyone... so here are two songs from two of the less controversial members of the group:

I watched the Yonkers video today about a million times.

Disturbingly brilliant. I'll listen to more.

If you wanna see more about the guy (and see it is an act)

  • Ashy To Classy, baby.
Can I just bring up how much Odd Future has BLOWN THE BLEEP UP IN THE PAST YEAR!?!?!?

MattG12, this post is what got me into them, before I even created an account, so thank you, and an emphatic TP.

I'm a huge rap/hiphop fan, and this is the only "new" rap music I consistently listen to. At the very least, it's creative, decent music. It's so pure in the most ironic way.
My pic is now, and will be Fab Melo until he posts his first official NBA dbl-dbl. This may be permanent.

I've never heard of these guys before, but if they're anything like RZA's Gravediggaz from the mid-90s then A+++ from me. The lyrics aren't serious, they're just a parody seeking attention in my opinion.

Oddly enough I like it, but listening to that type of crap probably wouldn't get me in the right mood. The music's not exactly sending out positive vibes. I'm trying to decide whether I'll listen to more or stop.

...these kids are messed up in the head I'm gonna let it be.

I think it's more of an act than really being messed up in the head.

1. Hodgy Beats has posted on twitter before that it's just an act.
2. Tyler raps about drugs and he's actually straight edge.
3. If you watch videos of them just hanging out in their hometown they seem like normal teenagers... rebellious skateboarders yes... profane yes... but they're not out raping girls and doing drugs and killing people. A lot of them smoke weed but they're nothing like their lyrics insinuate.
4. They say a lot of satanic things in their songs and talk about the devil and throw upside down crosses everywhere but they're not satanic... that's just a front because controversy helps them gain exposure. They're atheists... Hodgy went as far as to say that he believes in Spirituality and what not but he doesn't like the idea of organized religion over his twitter.
5. Some of seem to actually be pretty smart (Tyler, Earl, Hodgy); they know what they're doing.

EDIT: Actually the things that I mentioned that Hodgy has said came from his tumblr which is linked to his twitter.

You could have said they are posers and saved yourself a whole lot of typing.
Still don't believe in Joe.

Not feeling it. Too much random yelling.  I understand they're young, but they're are some much better young rappers out there.  A guy I've been on lately is Dee-1.  His flow and lyrics are great.  My only issue with him is he doesn't swear but he uses other words instead like he used bullskit in a song, which just didn't sound right.  Check out this song though.

This song is awesome! I should deff look more into this guy

I can't stand the Wu-Tang comparisons. OFWGKTA are like nerdy wannabes who rap about nonsense and are posers (Like angryguy77 just said)

Wu-Tang are/were legendary, and had something meaningful to say. Just because they use similar beats, doesn't mean they project the same message

PERFECT Wu-Tang comparison imo
Hip Hop has been missing this hardcore music

Oh, man, you all should listen to the stuff from the 90s instead. It's still a million times better than all of the stuff being released these days. Stakes is high!

Unfortunatley under their creative and unique image, they are being used as a vehicle to make satanism fashionable.
