I am, of course, in. Might be good to send a mass-PM around to all the participants in the last one?

I won't participate in a draft pre-2000 (just not enough knowledge).

Not knowing (and by extension learning) is half the fun!

I'm interested, but I simply don't have enough knowledge for anything before late 90s

^^^this. Also we can set up a thread discussing an era that we're unfamiliar with tbh. I find the discussion more entertaining, would be something fun to see who we think are the best players in a random era after say a few months of film and statistical analysis + discussion.

Why not join and try to form assessments of players on the fly through discussion, watching game film and looking at a multitude of statistical indicators? Half of the fun in these drafts is learning more about players anyways.

Sure and then we'd draw different conclusions about players by statistical analysis than is commonly accepted through reputations and legacy and as a result we'll be hammered because we have such a narrow view that we'd think we can understand the impact of certain players by just looking at the numbers, while if you had actually witnessed the games back then you'd understand how they either just changed the game or were more of an empty numbers kind of guy.

(I'll pass for that  ;D)

Rody is spot on: I bet most of us have never watched actual games from the 50s-60s-70s. How on earth are we supposed to argue about players based almost exclusively on their stats? I mean, going by the stats, Westbrook is a GOAT candidate. If you ask me, he's not even a top 5 PG among his contemporaries.

I understand there was a tradition in this board to hold an annual CB draft. I've never participated in such a draft. How about we revive that tradition?

2019-2020 season only. We all know the players. No need to spend a lot of time on research. It's as simple as it gets.

The idea that simplicity = fun is something I don’t really agree with

You obviously missed the watching game film for months part before actually holding a draft in my prior post . Pass on that though ;), I want people who're interested in seeing how good players in the past actually were by doing thorough analysis with the eye test, statistical indicators and discussion instead of using the "oh I'll never know because I never lived through that era" excuse and blindly believe in reputations and legacy that have been proven to overrate or underrate a number of historical players.

He isn't even close to looking like a GOAT even from a statistical point of view. The idea that analytics and statistics is limited to the box score like it's the 1950s needs to go (what's interesting is that we actually have some form of adjusted + / - for the post shot clock/pre three point era that can give us a rough idea of who was putting up empty stats/was actually providing elite value to their teams: https://backpicks.com/tag/wowy/). If you're going to hammer my suggestion, I suggest you to reread it because you have obviously missed out the part where I mentioned we'll be watching game film and discussing our observations for months besides looking at box and non-box indicators before holding a draft concerning an era we're unfamiliar with. Yes I know the bolded sounds incredibly foreign to you , feel free to join if what I suggested has legs to start familiarising yourself with non-box indicators.
