I mean, we see some insane stuff on NBA message boards but this one might take the cake.

I’m sure this was probably done in jest, but this is a perfect example of the current state of our society right now, the fact that people just sit around and think of stuff like this

Many people believe in sports you try to take any advantage of rules that can work in your favor.
It's strange that there's such a weird ruling.

That's not from r/nba, it's from r/nbacirclejerk, big difference.  The circle jerk one is making fun of the crazy takes seen on the real forums.  Kinda like The Onion.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

I think this is pretty clearly just a humorous, fun exercise by frustrated Nets fans. I didn't hear when Simmons brought this particular obscure rule up, but I did listen to his "mock expansion draft" podcast where he and Russillo pretended they were GMs in the eventual Vegas and Seattle expansion drafts. They went through each team, deciding which players to protect and which players Vegas or Seattle would take (if it happened today, of course). It's just for entertainment, basically, especially for fans who like to play armchair GM.

Dismemberment seems like a better option.

You'd have to cut off at least tongue and fingers. Such that they can't communicate to the police who did it.
I mean if you lead your "new" team to success you'd want to be able to watch them and not be behind bars.
