This is the 9th time this year and NBA team has scored fewer than 80 points in a game.  The Celtics have held a team under 80 for 4 of those 9 occurrences this year.

In part due to good defense. Also in part due to bringing the ball up too slow.

The Celtics starters had a plus-17.8 net rating entering tonight's game. After outscoring the Kings 42-23 over 14 minutes, the Celtics starters now have a plus-21.9 net rating over 174 minutes together.

One of the very top units in the NBA. Good health is critical.

Celtics improved their net rating by 1.1 points (from +2.0 to +3.1) for the season with tonight’s 53-point win over Kings. They now have the 7th best net rating in NBA.

Cs record doesn't reflect that though. Contenders win close games and blow out the stiffs. At least we can blow out the stiffs. With the exception of Brooklyn and GSW, if Curry regains his touch, we can beat the rest if we play right.

You’re not wrong, but maybe we were just unlucky with the close games before and we get lucky going forward.  Even going .500 in those close games the rest of the way would help, especially since we also have a lot of stiffs in front of us.

Much more the former than the latter.

Relatedly, there have been 13 games where a team score at least 140 points.  C’s have two of those games.  The only team with more is Sacramento, with 3.

We're 25th in pace. 4th in defensive rating. They're quite clearly both part of this.

But the Celtics defense is present in the pace statistic.  Defensive possessions by the Celtics are the 5th longest in the NBA.  Pace isn’t only an offensive stat.

Do you guys think this Celtics team, if they succeed in the play-ins and lock up the 8th seed...do you think they can upset the Chicago Bulls in round 1? If they decide to flip the switch anytime now. I know they just beat a really bad team into oblivion but...this should be typical performance each night...

Bringing the ball up slow it one of my pet peeves: starting action with 14 seconds instead of 18 is so noticable on this team, with Ime loving to use several handoffs before a real pick and roll/(pop with Al).

It’s a great game when you’re making shots and the other team isn’t

FG%
Celtics: 59-103 (49.5%)
Kings: 29-95 (30.5%)

3FG%
Celtics: 20-45 (44.4%)
Kings: 6-33 (18.2%)

Great win for the Cs, you’d expect it with that type of shooting disparity. Also good that they didn’t take their foot off the gas and gave their deep bench a run.

Now the next step is to be able to consistently win ugly, when they aren’t shooting well.

The guys are 7-3 for the last 10.  Nice run.

Amazing. Yet it feels like 3-7 when we (myself included) react to bad losses. Maybe we’re just real die hard fans who wear our emotions on our chests.

Probably a disconnect between expectations and reality  :police:

So is Tatum's 3pt% back to where it should be yet? So glad he is finding his stroke. Where are all the folks who say that Tatum and Brown can't play together?

You will score beer at a Amish retreat before you find anyone admit to that tonight. Maybe tomorrow, but not tonight. :)  :)

Gotta wait till the next loss for that one

Yes, pace measures both offensive and defensive. If we're 5th overall and 50% is due to defense, then shouldn't (I could be wrong here, just guessing) we also be 5th(ish) on offense? hence, it's about the same?

Which was my point initially :)

On the other side, some Kings players should be sent packing at the trade deadline after this fiasco.
after this game, who'd take them?

I don't think I even want Haliburton or Barnes lol

It's just 1 game.

What's the biggest loss the Celtics had this season btw?

I'll still take Haliburton.  That length at PG would look great next to the js.

Gimme Haliburton and Collins and we'd have an insanely long lineup.  Pipedream but still there are a few sac players I'd like on the cs.  Just not Mr. KARDASHIAN
Haliburton looked especially bad.  His jump-shot form is terrible.  Hard to believe young guys are coming into the league with a chest-shot (Lonzo is another).  Beyond that, he's pretty skinny...looks like a project.

Buddy is Buddy.  Empty calories.

I like Davion Mitchell.  He could still turn into something.

Damion Jones is a decent backup center.

I would still take Barnes at the right price.

We’re 21st in offensive possession length.  We’re also 8th in offensive rebounds per possession, so we extend possessions more than average.  We’re not a fast team, but our slow overall pace metric is due to more than just our lack of pushing the ball up the court, which was my point about why our ability to produce low-scoring games is due more to defense than bringing the ball up slowly.

When was the last time no player on a team scored more than 11 points?

Robert Williams III last night:

✅ 13 PTS
✅ 17 REB
✅ 3 STL
✅ +42 +/-

Williams III is +74 over his last two games.

That's the largest plus-minus over a two-game span for a Boston Celtics player since the NBA began play-by-play tracking in 1996-97.
