The public All Star voting seems to be more of a popularity show than that it's based on actual performances.
Besides that, great players often get overlooked because of team records by the media and coach voting.

Who do you believe do actually deserve to be on the All Star team this year purely based on this season's performances?

I have pre-selected 22 (options 1-22) players for the East and 24 (options 23-46) players for the West based on a simple formula using EPM. Which also interestingly indicated that there should just be 4 players in the MVP race: Jokic, Curry, James and Antetokounmpo.

Players who just didn't make the cut for a nominee were Marcus Smart, Lonzo Ball, Seth Curry, Myles Turner, Jakob Poeltl, Deandre Ayton and Dillon Brooks. So I don't think there's a name missing on the list that would be in demand.

Please choose exactly 12 players from the East (options 1-22) and 12 players from the West (options 23-46).

Hmm, let's see.

I have to make some cuts

East

G: James Harden, Trae Young, Zach LaVine, Bradley Beal, Fred VanVleet, LaMelo Ball, Lonzo Ball, Tyler Herro
F: Kevin Durant, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jayson Tatum, DeMar DeRozan, Jaylen Brown, Khris Middleton, Jimmy Butler
C: Joel Embiid, Bam Adebayo, Evan Mobley

I am going to cut J.Butler and B.Adebayo for lack of games. I'll cut Lonzo and Herro - close but not quite there. Okay, that is 13; one more cut. VanVleet or Mobley make the most sense to cut but I am loathe to cut either one of them. Screw it, I am going to cut Beal. He hasn't shot well enough.

West

G: Steph Curry, Ja Morant, Chris Paul, Devin Booker, Damian Lillard, Donovan Mitchell
F: LeBron James, Luka Doncic, Paul George, Draymond Green
C: Nikola Jokic, Karl Anthony Towns, Rudy Gobert

13 - one too many. Let's see: Who to cut? Lillard due to lack of team success.

Mobley?  He is the 3rd most deserving Cav behind Garland and Allen by basically any measure you use.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Disagree. Mobley is the one that makes it all work. His versatility is primary to everything Cleveland does successfully.

I normally vote multiple times for Celtics players for ASG.  Not this year. I hope neither Tatum or Brown makes it.  They should not be rewarded for playing sub-500 basketball.   Send a message to them.

And yet Cleveland is actually better when he is on the bench as his on/off per 100 possessions is -1.2.  And he statistically doesn't measure up either.  Mobley is playing very well as a rookie, but Garland and Allen are both better and far more important to Cleveland's success this year, and it isn't close.  Deciding between Garland and Allen is far more difficult however, though given Cleveland is 1-6 in the games Allen has missed, I'd say he is the guy that should be the all star (they are 21-12 with him).

East

G - Young, LaVine, Harden, Garland
F - KD, Giannis, DeRozan, Tatum, Butler
C - Embiid, Allen, Bam

West

G - Curry, Paul, Morant, Mitchell, Booker
F - Lebron, Doncic, George, Wiggins
C - Jokic, Gobert, Towns

I tried to reward the better teams unless a guy was just so good statistically to not deny (like Trae Young or choosing Tatum over Middleton).

Hard to root against your favorite team's players, but the Cs definitely do not deserve two all-stars. I will be floored if Jaylen actually makes it. Winning absolutely needs to be a factor in terms of All-Star votes.

Tatum's shooting this year has been sub-par to be kind.  I could see Jaylen getting a nod over Jayson if going by personal performance rather than hype.  if neither made it I wouldn't be upset but mildly surprised.

I think that JB has missed 14 out of 40 games, too.  I think he gets left out.

But, even though it would hurt the team regarding the luxury tax, I hope he makes it.  I always root for as many Celtics reps as possible.

Brown over Tatum seems strange to me.  Yes, Brown is shooting better, but Tatum otherwise has better stats and advanced metrics across the board.
