Is it just me or is 12 per a STEAL for Nurkic???

What am I not seeing?

Can't believe the Blazers don't make sideways moves away from Lillard, or apply to change conferences - maybe relocate to Buffalo or Jacksonville.

Actually city that needs NBA team would make for interesting conversation. Another time

Depends what way you think the league is going.  Nurkic-like centers are going out of style, and in 3 games of 4 in the playoffs his interior scoring didn’t make up for his other deficiencies.  Perhaps that’s just small sample size — we’ll find out over the next four years I guess.

While I agree Nurkic is 'plodding' and plodding centers are certainly going out of style, i might quibble with saying 'Nurkic-like centers' because IMO he does have a pretty unique skillset.

He's a legitimate shotblocker (not a very good defender but contradictorily, still a somewhat of a rim protector) and probably a near-elite big man passer with scoring ability.  I also kind of feel like it's a good deal, but I'm really not sure.  I just think Nurkic has a unique blend of skills and I can't think of that many guys like him.  He's just not the typical 'plodder' to me.
Considering the market, I'd say the Blazers overpaid.  Do we know if that 4th year is guaranteed?

Between Ariza's departure and now this, Houston's defense has already taken a significant hit during this offseason, imo.

My recollection is they were injury related (even if officially designated as DNP-CD at times).

I believe it is a $4 million guarantee in year 4.  It is really another stupid contract handed out by the Blazers.  They could have set up a situation where they had tons of cap available 2 years from now when all their bad contracts expire, locking him up beyond that point was dumb.  He was definitely an overpay also as there couldn't have possibly been competition for him above the full MLE and likely could've been had for less than that.

Coming off a 2-way contract last year.  Interesting as a potential comp for where Bird’s deal might come out.

I hope not.  Bird has done nothing to warrant a deal for above the minimum, or a second year guarantee.

32.5% 3PT%, 59.7% FT% in Maine last year
Don't get the Bird love. Sure he had a few good minutes in one or two games at the end of the year but he just oozes, 14th to 15th man on this roster, maybe spending a lot of time in Portland. I wouldn't be willing to offer him anything but in minimum contract in Nader's roster spot as hopefully, he is released and stretched.

They haven't re-signed Capela yet and they are apparently focused on Melo.  Say goodbye to Rockets as championship contenders.

Woj reported Nurkic's deal as 4yr/48M but Shams reported it as 4yr/53M.   Anyone know which is correct?

I honestly don't remember. Upon looking at his game log he did only play in four games against the Warriors and, admittedly, wasn't useful against Golden State, iirc, but he did make an impact against Utah, although he couldn't even get on the court against Minnesota, LOL ;D.

Still, my point was more about his overall contribution to the Rockets during the entire season, so yeah.

An Ariza and Mbah a Moute for Carmelo swap for the Rockets this offseason might be more beneficial to the Warriors than the Cousins signing
