From Zach Lowe's deadline piece yesterday:

Quote
Speaking of Orlando: Everyone but Gordon and Isaac is readily available, per sources around the league. Most expect Elfrid Payton, a free agent this summer, to be elsewhere by next season, and I'd agree.

Sorry, didn’t see another aspect of this trade that won’t work.  You can’t waive the players you’re receiving to make a trade work — you have to waive a player currently on your roster.

You can release them after the trade, but not as part of getting to the 15-player maximum.

REMEMBER, ALL DEALS MUST BE LEGALLY FINALIZED BY TOMORROW AT 3PM EASTERN. Any trades announced on this thread after that point will not count. Any trades that are not legal and have not been adjusted will not count.

TPs to Defense and Salt for such a great job with this game so far.  It has slowed down, but has been a lot of fun.  I'm curious to see if things will pick up in a scramble tomorrow afternoon like the NBA deadline!

Marc Stein tweet:

Pelicans forward Dante Cunningham unhappy with his reduced role following the acquisitions of Larry Nance Jr. and Ersan Ilyasova.  Team is looking to find him a mutually agreeable home, and will not have a steep asking price for the deposed rotation player.

Per Woj: The Milwaukee Bucks are interested in acquiring a veteran 2nd unit point guard for short term help. Willing to talk non essential assets going forward.

***TRADE ANNOUNCEMENT***

The New Orleans Pelicans and Orlando Magic have agreed to a trade.  The Pelicans will receive center Nikola Vucevic in exchange for Omer Asik, the Pelicans 2018 1st round pick (protections described below), the Wizards 2018 2nd round pick, and a 2019 2nd round pick which is the lesser of Minnesota and the Lakers selections.

The protection on the 1st round pick is as follows:

2018 Top-14 protected
2019 Top-10 protected
2019 and 2020 2nd round picks from New Orleans if the pick is not conveyed by 2019.

Trade Machine is unavailable due to the fact that the real-life Pelicans have already traded Asik, but as the difference in salaries between the two players is beneath 25% and it’s a 1-for-1 deal, I don’t need to invoke any weird salary trade rules.

Statements from the teams will follow.

The Orlando Magic wish to extend their great gratitude for all of the work Nikola has done with the Magic and wish him good luck in New Orleans.

Unfortunately, Nikola no longer matches our timeline and the draft picks from New Orleans are going to help fortify our team for the future.

Statement from New Orleans Pelicans:

We are extremely excited to welcome Nikola Vucevic to New Orleans.  He and Anthony Davis will form one of the best big-man combos in the game, as they play to each other’s strengths.  Nikola is still recovering from a hand injury, but we expect him to make his Pelicans debut on February 23rd at home against Miami, and be a major contributor in our fight to make and advance in the playoffs.

Trade Announcement:

The Milwaukee Bucks and Brooklyn Nets have agreed to a trade. The Nets have traded Spencer Dinwiddie, Jahlil Okafor and Nik Stauskas to the Bucks for DJ Wilson, Tony Snell, and the Milwaukee Bucks 2018 2nd round pick*.

A few caveats about the trade are as follows.

1.) The Nets have taken back more salary than what was sent to the Bucks. The extra salary sent to the Nets is absorbed within their extra space.

2.) The previous protections the Suns owned on the Bucks 2018 2nd had been extinguished as part of the Kawhi Leonard trade. This is an unprotected 2nd headed to the Nets.

3.) This trade brings the Bucks to 15 players.

Statements from teams to follow.

The Bucks would like to welcome Spencer Dinwiddie, Jahlil Okafor and Nik Stauskas to our organization. We feel Spencer's length, ability to get into the lane and create for others, along with his three point shooting will be a great addition to our team. In the short term he provides a replacement to an injured Brogdon until he returns, and in the long run a valuable member of our back court rotation.

As for Stauskas and Okafor, the rest of this season is a try out for them. We challenge them to prove all of their doubters in the NBA wrong. This is your opportunity to show that you belong, as we believe you do.

We would like to thank Tony Snell for always being a consummate proffesional around our organization. We realize we had to give up a talented young man with potential in Wilson, but that is the cost of acquiring a talent like Dinwiddie.
