Shams: The Rockets are still engaging to acquire another star. Sources say that CP3 has been made available for the right package.

Breaking:

The Los Angeles Lakers have traded Luol Deng, Thomas Bryant, and two first round draft picks with protections (protections below) to the Atlanta Hawks for Ersan Ilysova, Mike Muscala, Isaiah Taylor, and two second round draft picks (Atlanta’s 2018 2nd round pick, and Atlanta’s owned 2nd round pick that is the less favorable of LA and MIN in 2019)

Protections on the LA picks are as follows  : First of the two picks is Top 8 protected in 2020, Top 4 in 2021 if not conveyed, Top 4 in 2022 if not conveyed, and unprotected year after.
Second of the first round picks to convey two years following first conveyed pick above, with same scheme except one less year of protection.

David Aldridge reporting:

The Hawks and Lakers trade is currently in limbo as they work to convince Muscala and Ilyasova to waive their no-trade clauses.  Muscala seems to be particularly hurt that the Hawks didn’t consult to him first, as he’s played his first five seasons in Atlanta.

Is that pick protection valid?  I know you can only trade picks 7 years out but don't know how it applies to protections.  That 1st pick might not convey until 2023 so the 2nd pick might not convey until 2025 or later.

We actually weren't sure, but I could not find a good source for rules on that specific type of protection. The trade needs to be adjusted for a few reasons anyway so we'll sort that out, the error was mine. My apologies everyone!

From the CBA FAQ:

Quote
The "Seven Year Rule" allows teams to trade draft picks up to seven drafts into the future (for example, if this is the 2017-18 season, then a 2024 pick can be traded, but a 2025 pick cannot). It is common to "protect" picks depending on their position (for example, "we keep it if if it falls #1 through #14, otherwise you get it"), although no more than 55 picks in a single draft can be protected (for example, a top-55 protected pick is legal, but a top-56 protected pick is not). This helps to avoid a repeat of some unfortunate past trades, such as the 1980 trade between the Cavs and Lakers where LA received what turned out to be the first overall pick in the 1982 draft, which they used to select James Worthy. It is common for these protections to relax over several years. For example, a team might convey its own pick in the first draft in which it is not a protected pick, where a protected pick is defined as picks 1-14 in 2018; 1-10 in 2019; 1-6 in 2020; and unprotected in 2021. If the team's picks in 2018, 2019 or 2020 fall within the protected range, then they keep it; otherwise it is conveyed to the other team. If they make it to 2021 without having conveyed a pick, then the other team gets their 2021 pick unconditionally.

A team may protect its pick through all seven upcoming drafts. However, if a protected pick is not conveyed by the seventh draft, the obligation to convey a pick either must extinguish after the seventh draft, or convert to a permissible alternative (such as a second round pick).

Breaking Trade Annoncement:

The Milwaukee Bucks, Phoenix Suns and San Antonio Spurs have agreed to a trade. The swap involves Jabari Parker and Mirza Teletovic to the Suns, 2018 protected Suns 1st round pick + Eric Bledsoe + Kris Middleton + Thon Maker to the Spurs, and Kawhi Leonard, Danny Green and Jared Dudley to the Bucks. Details Below:

Structure of 3 Way trade Between Bucks/ Suns/ Spurs
For simplicity sake, I have broken the trade down into “two parts” even though it is still structured as a 3 way trade in terms of salary.

1.)   To Milwaukee Bucks: '18 Phoenix 1st (top 1 protected), Jared Dudley and '18 Milwaukee 2nd

To Phoenix Suns: Jabari Parker and Mirza Teletovic

•   There are changes in protections involving picks with this deal. The 2018 Phoenix 1st is top 1 protected (will not convey if Suns win the lottery.) In the event of this protection occurring, Milwaukee is entitled to the 2019 Phoenix 1st round pick unprotected.

•   The current Milwaukee 2018 1st round pick owned by Phoenix is protected as such: '18 Milwaukee protection: '18 (1-10 and 17-30 protected) - '19 (1-3 and 17-30 protected) - '20 (1-7 protected) - '21 (unprotected)

•   Milwaukee has agreed to change that protection to : '18 (1-10 protected) - '19 (1-3 protected) - '20 (1-7 protected) - '21 (unprotected)

•   Control of the 2018 Milwaukee 2nd round pick reverts to Milwaukee

2.)   To Milwaukee Bucks: Kawhi Leonard + Danny Green

To San Antonio Spurs: Kris Middleton + Eric Bledsoe + Thon Maker + 2018 Phoenix 1st (top 1 protected)

Team statements to follow.

Statement by the Milwaukee Bucks:

The Milwaukee Bucks are happy to welcome Kawhi Leonard, Danny Green and Jared Dudley to our organization. We feel that we have put in place a foundation that will lead to a new era of great Bucks basketball.  While our team may not be 100% healthy at the moment, we feel that building a franchise around a 23 year old Giannis, a 26 year old Kawhi, and a 25 year old sharpshooter in Brogdon is a recipe for continued success going forward. We feel that as a duo, Giannis and Kawhi will be the new gold standard for matchup nightmares in the league.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Kris Middleton, Jabari Parker, Thon Maker and Eric Bledsoe for the blood, sweat and tears they have poured into our franchise over the years. We know they will continue to grow for their new franchises, and detest the prospect of having to play against these talented players for years to come.

As a result of the recent trade, the Phoenix Suns would have 16 players under contract, and thus have released Isaiah Canaan. The Phoenix Suns thank Isaiah for his efforts for the team.

Miami Heat Team Statement

The Franchise would like to thank Goran Dragic, Hassan Whiteside, Tyler Johnson, Wayne Ellington and A. J. Hammons (Dealt in seperate deals) for their time with the Miami Heat, and wish them well in their new situations.
The group of the last two seasons had a great run, nearly making the playoffs last season after turning their season around in admirable fashion, and fighting to the 4th spot this season. But the management still felt the need to get younger, while remaining competitive this season.

So we'd like to welcome Otto Porter Jr, Dejounte Murray, Rudy Gay and Pau Gasol to our team!
We feel like we acquired some very nice young building blocks, and some very solid veterans to guide our young group going forward.
Our team now features length on every position and we expect this new group to flourish defensively!

We're excited about the future of this team, and look forward to the rest of the season!

Miami has reportedly received a $5.5-million disabled player exception (DPE) from the league stemming from Dion Waiters' season-ending ankle surgery earlier this month, sources told Yahoo Sports' Shams Charania.

Trade Announcement:

The Memphis Grizzles and Brooklyn Nets have reached an agreement that sends Demarre Carroll and Jeremy Lin to the Grizzles for Chandler Parsons, Deyonte Davis, and Dillon Brooks.

http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ybnwy3hx

The Brooklyn Nets appreciate Demarre's contributions to the team this year and wish him the best moving forward. They also wish Jeremy a speedy recovery followed by the ability to contribute at a high level next season.

We'd like to welcome Parsons, Davis, and Brooks the Nets! As we continue to build for the future, we are excited about our young core of Russell, Dinwiddie, Lavert, RHJ, Brooks, Davis, Okafor, and Allen. We are also thrilled to have solid veterans surrounding them like Parsons, Mozgov, and Crabbe.

Let's go Nets!

Edit: As part of this trade, the Nets will release Quincy Acy. He has been a consummate professional for us during our rebuild and we wish him the best for his career.

The Brooklyn Nets are still buyers this trade deadline. They have approximately 5,278,672 in cap space into which they can take a contract.

Any contract that they take into that space produces a trade exception for the other party equal to the contract they trade to the Nets. This trade exception can be a helpful asset moving forward for a team.

We are looking to receive young players and draft considerations for the trade.

Rumor: The Heat are making Kelly Olynyk available in trade talks. They appear to be interested in a backup point guard or an expirering contract.

Trade Announcement

The Los Angeles Clippers and Phoenix Suns have agreed to a deal in which Phoenix sends Greg Monroe, Marquese Chriss, Alan Williams and the '18 Milwaukee 1st round pick to LA in exchange for DeAndre Jordan and Patrick Beverley.

In a short statement Phoenix says that they hope that DeAndre and Patrick can have a big impact to change the direction of the team. They thank Greg, Marquese and Alan for the contributions to the team and wish them success in their further careers.

After the transaction between Milwaukee, San Antonio and Phoenix the protections for the '18 Milwaukee pick had been changed, therefore it's highly likely that the pick will convey this year as the protection is as follows: 1-10 in 2018, 1-3 in 2019, 1-7 in 2020 and unprotected in 2021.

LA Clippers sends out a total of $28.155.864,- in salary (22,6 Jordan; 5,5 Beverley) and receives a total of $26.957.976,- in salary (17,9 Monroe; 6,0 Williams; 3,1 Chriss), therefore the trade is valid.

(since in another universe Monroe was released I can't show the trade in the trading machine)
