Here's the thing:

Optimists around here like to talk about how young our team is.  How the team is succeeding despite having all of these young guys with a bright future.

Yet, we're currently on track to give significant minutes and major roles to Isaiah Thomas, Avery Bradley, Evan Turner, David Lee, and Amir Johnson.

A veritable parade of guys who are what they are and whose main value to the team is that they might fetch some value in a trade.

If this sounds familiar, it's basically the same spot the team was in heading into last season.  So we've gone through a full year of rebuild and the team is, if anything, more cluttered with "assets" and we can't even place our hopes on a top 10 picking coming our way.

The saving grace of a rebuilding team is typically that there are a handful of young guys who occasionally flash the potential to turn into something special, guys you can grow attached to and imagine as the future of the franchise.  Failing that, you can at least pine away for the latest college superstar in the draft.

No such luck here.

Basically, refer to my "Revolving Door" post.

As of now, it's a perfect example of having kicked the can a little further down the road so that Danny can get ready for another try at his grand strategy.

No way man our team is so good dude they're gonna be stars we just gotta let 'em develop why do you hate the Celtics you evil man you.

Lee averaged 18.2 points and 9.3 rebounds per game on 52.3-percent shooting in the 2013-14 season and then got hurt . Now all of a sudden he is suppose to suck? I don't get it.

His offense is mitigated by his defense, and his numbers are empty. He has consistently struggled to find playing time on a championship-caliber team, and he has never been the primary player on a winning team.

If you want more evidence of his greatness, look at his tenure with the Knicks. Contrast that with their win-loss ratio.

I don't think he was traded to be the savior.  He has an expiring contract and value as trade bait. He is a good player and more value than Gerald Wallace.

You are under the perception that he is the answer to all the FA's that we didn't sign. This is a no brainer for Ainge.

I'm not elated with Lee as a player but some of this may be a little overstated. His offense was just a difference maker in the NBA finals to the point that some Warriors players have credited him with turning around the series (or perhaps it was Kerr). I do think if he is scoring effectively next season he could be swapped along with a pick for something pretty valuable at the deadline for an offense starved team. I do think he could be a starter on a championship caliber team which is not true for any of other players with the possible exception of bradley or thomas. Its not great but it is not horrible either.

Maybe this is overly optimistic, but I do think this trade also suggests we are more likely to trade sullinger or KO in the next year which I personally view as a positive.

This now serves to perfectly symbolize the interior defense as well as the roster building strategy.

Yes, I am sure you would be doing a much better job. What is Wyc thinking?

Do you really think you could do a better job in building a basketball team than Danny?

Your posts imply that you do.

Yup I made a whole post about that re: stringing the fans along.

Philly fans and Celts fans alike fit into that "This is fine" meme.  Teams are just taking different paths.

Pretty much most of them young guys and you're forgetting that they will give minutes to Sullinger, Smart and Olynyk.

Do fans who criticize Marcus Smart's shot selection do so under the delusion that they could shoot better than Smart in the same situation?

Just how many minutes will they be giving to the aforementioned players with Lee, Johnson, Bradley, Thomas, and Turner still on board?

Lee played very little for Golden State, I'm not sure if he's going huge minutes with the Celtics.

Stevens will give playing time to the guys that earn it.  See: Humphries, Kris.  Same deal here.

I doubt Ainge would bother taking on Lee unless he thought he would earn playing time and increase his value enough to fetch something at the deadline.

But if Ainge isn't offered a 1st round pick, he'll probably just keep him like he did Bass and we'll get to see him all season long. :)

If you need help understanding the "David Lee sucks" thing, go take a look at how the Red Sox are doing with Hanley Ramirez in left field.

Terrible comparison. Ramirez was inked to a NEW deal, while Lee was acquired as an expiring deal.

It's fairly obvious what this deal was made for....yet seems to fly over your head for whatever reason.
