... Philadelphia 76ers teammate James Harden was left off the roster completely despite putting up a solid offensive season so far. Jimmy Butler, Trae Young, De'Aaron Fox, Darius Garland and Jalen Brunson join Harden as the backcourt stars who were left out this year, while Jrue Holiday made it in with mostly a defensive résumé.

I'm glad my binkie Jrue made it.

I would've liked to have seen Brunson make it.  He's been fun to watch this season.

Side question:  is it time to expand the ASG rosters?  Regular teams have 15 players, with 13 eligible to play nightly, right?

for a single game?  the roster size is fine.  makes getting a spot mean a little bit since not everyone and his brother makes it.  have to admit that at this point, the only positive to the game is the break it provides to teams to rest most of their players for about a week more or less.  the game itself and the 'skills' competitions really aren't entertaining or even watchable at this point (or for the past 25-30 years or so)

only all-star game that really meant anything was baseball's -- each team had a least one representative and you'd typically see the best that season in the game when you didn't typically see them at all (or very rarely) otherwise.

Kevin O'Connor had a fun kind of jokey idea for it. Expand the total to 32 and have 4 teams of 8 players. You could have a mini tourney of the ASG. The All star team is already so watered down, just stop evaluating players based on selections.

Harden should have made it.  I guess the 34 games played may have turned some coaches off, but 21.4/6.4/11.0 on excellent shooting efficiency (61.9 TS%) is worthy of a spot, especially since the Sixers have the 4th best record in the sport.

DeRozan being a guard is what caused that and it is nonsense.  DeRozan is not a guard.  Put him only as frontcourt eligible and then decide if he or Randle should be on the team and then that guard spot is opened for Harden.

How would it look if it was expanded to 30 and only one player from each team was taken?

 East
Embiid, Tatum, Giannis, Mitchell, Haliburton
Bam, KD, Randle, Beal, LaMelo
Siakam, Wagner, DeRozan, Cade, Trae

 West
Jokic, Zion, LeBron, Luka, Ja
Sabonis, KAT, PG13, Booker, Curry
Markkanen, Vassell, Green, SGA, Lillard

That's not a bad All-Star game.

Brunson or Garland should have made it over Holiday.

Brunson or Garland should have made it over Holiday.

An efficient 19 / 7 on good efficiency while playing elite defense?  I prefer that over Brunson or Garland.

In the East, maybe Siakam instead of Randle, but it is close.

Plus 5 boards and he is the 2nd best player on the 2nd best team in the conference.  They are ok teams, but they aren't more deserving of 2 all stars than the Bucks (or frankly the Sixers, where Harden should be ahead of Brunson or Garland as well).

Completely agree. He’s having a great year and made the Knicks relevant again. One of the most underrated players in the NBA, IMO.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

I get your point but neither of the other to have a Giannis to work with and the teams are not much worse record wise than the bucks. Plus they have both played more games.

Trying to post a png 144kb comparison and the site doesn't allow it

Both score more points and similar numbers in other offensive categories and there is NO defense played in All Star games.

He's right.  Congrats to him, though.  Well deserved.
