Rumored Celtics "offer" on twitter was Tatum, Smart, Williams, Horford and 3 1st round picks.

Zero percent chance Ainge offered that, even if he was making specific offers (which he isn't).

Agree. That is beyond too much for AD.

It’s unnecessary to include Horford.

Otherwise, it’s the exact package I’ve been predicting: Tatum, Smart, Williams, three firsts

We would probably be absorbing both Hill and Moore in this kind of trade.

Pass, then.

We can't lose either Horford or Smart. We gotta keep one to keep our defensive identity intact.

Would have to be something else on the Pelicans side.

That's $52m in outgoing salaries for Boston.

Maybe C's bring back Jrue too?  Now that would be interesting.

My guess is New Orleans would want to send us some bad salary e.g. Solomon Hill.

Solomon Hill's contract wouldn't be enough, that's still $40m vs $52m, and the Pels can only take back about $50.5m (125% + 100k).  It could be an easy fix adding a small contract OR

Why would the Pelicans want to dump Solomon Hill?  Next year he's an expiring contract.  Those are nice assets.  It's $13m which is peanuts in today's NBA.  I know there's reports about the Pels trying to dump Hill, but they make no sense to me.  The only bad salary they have next year would Holiday.  They have no bad salary beyond that.

If the Celts trade for AD, I hope they find a way to keep Smart.

He's exactly the kind of player you need on a star-laden team that wants to go deep in the playoffs.

They've said repeatedly they intend to keep Holiday. His salary is a bit bloated, but he's worth more than a salary dump attachment in an AD deal.

I would not give up Tatum and Smart for a rental that might not sign.

I think there's a good chance Brown gets sent out instead of Smart.  If Smart is truly becoming a legit threat as a shooter he's a better player than Brown.

Yeah and not of much value to a rebuilding team. He's just gotten paid so a bigger role doesn't even help his career that much.

Problem is he's one of the only "medium" sized contracts we've got. But I really, really hope we can keep him long-term. His deal already seems like a bargain.

This works in the Trade Machine:

Tatum, Hayward, Williams, Yabu

for

AD, Hill, Moore

Key question is why would the Pelicans take on Hayward?

Well, there's good reason to think he might return to something like his previous form.

It would help if he has some nice moments over the remainder of the season and in the playoffs.

Whether the Pelicans want to remain halfway decent, or they flip Hayward for additional assets another year or so down the line, he wouldn't necessarily be a negative part of the deal.

I'm certain the Pelicans would prefer the rumored offer using Smart or Horford as salary filler, but if I were the Celts I'd try to sell the Pels on Hayward.

Here's hoping Hayward has some big games over the next few months.

would hate to see Smart or Tatum go out but if they can get Davis to commit to resigning in Boston, I'd do that deal.  for a 1-year rental, no way does Tatum get traded.

Agree, especially regarding potential fit with our roster, but he has more salary to count in a trade, making him more of an ideal fit if we're only sending out Tatum and Williams with him.
