Yay my first! ;D
I predict a win, but not an easy one.
Easy win please!!! and dont let Booker score 70 again
Easy win please!!! and dont let Booker score 70 again
The Celtics won that 70 point Booker game.
Lets see if we can stop this losing streak
A lot of good those days off did us eh? We can't even make a [dang] layup.
5 straight missed layups...Heavens

True that. Really like the looks we're getting - we just can't finish it.
Anytime they want to trade Big Al, Brown, and a #1 pick to New Orleans for AD...I'm good with it.Has to wait until next season :(

I'm out of the loop...why?
Didn't like that foul. Hate blind side fouls when a player is going airborne.morris was obviously p---ed after getting hit in the face.
This team just seems to miss more than their fair share of wide open shots. Logic suggests that will normalize over time, but...

Kyrie needs to keep shooting until someone else can buy a bucket.Basically, lol. Maybe Morris is the only other guy who can hit them

The Rose rule and Kyrie's contract.
Rythmn matters. And with the makeup of the team, it’s hard for guys to get in a rthmm. This team just seems to miss more than their fair share of wide open shots. Logic suggests that will normalize over time, but...
Logic ain't never met the Celtics. I swear, Boston could acquire Curry, Thompson, and Durant and they'd start missing like crazy.
I'm trying to convince myself that the events of the first 20 games—especially the bad events—won't matter much, if at all, in the long run, but losing by 10 in the first quarter to a garbage team is pretty frustrating.

A team can only trade for one player who was signed under the Rose rule. They can only trade for Davis is they trade away Kyrie.

Brown doing an amazing job on Booker. If only someone could guard Warren.

Well, at the very least you know you can blame it on something that is easily remedied with time and shots - i.e. we're just missing open shots.
While I think open threes eventually become bad shots at a certain point when you're not hitting them, we've largely got good looks in all of our games. And that's because our starting unit scheme is working - our passing is elite and we create so much spacing that we're really hard to defend.
I think we're in our own heads right now, which is exacerbating us missing good looks.
This Celtics team is making me sad at this point.Of course there’s a reason. The pieces aren’t fitting well.
Starting to remind me of 2013, the last time I was convinced they were gonna be really good and just ... weren't. That year, as now, they were coming off a somewhat improbable and truly enjoyable near-Finals run.
It's early! I know. I keep telling the idiot pessimist at the back of my brain that it's too early and they're too talented with too good a track record to not end up really good.
They'll probably blow out the Suns by 30 after this start.
It's just ... disheartening ... to see them struggle so much right now for no clear reason.
This starting 5 does not play well together for some reason. I’m not sure what the deal is but every game they start off slow and miss a ton of shots. Maybe shake up this starting 5 a little and bring Tatum off the bench start Baynes. It’s crazy that 5 guys on the floor who can all score struggle as much as they do.
This trip is looking like a disaster right now.
Celtics are trash

what is the Rose rule?Someting about nit being able to have two players under a certain contract at the same time. Kylie and AD both have that kind of contract.
It’s cute that Baynes hit a couple of ‘s in a game a few games back but he needs to it the crap shooting 3’s. Especially when the team is struggling this bad to score.
This offence is almost hilariously broken
13 pts in a quarter that’s pretty embarrassing
13 pts in a quarter that’s pretty embarrassing
Aside from Horford and Barnes, all the other players are best with the ball in their hands. No complimentary players, no spot up shooters. That’s a problem. This starting 5 does not play well together for some reason. I’m not sure what the deal is but every game they start off slow and miss a ton of shots. It feels like none of them is ever truly sure about taking a shot. They hesitate or rush. Never feels especially in rhythm.
It's a very painful feeling out process right now. Like everybody is worried about keeping everybody else happy.

Baynes would be that guy.
This is a very painful game to watch....
chemistry not there with starting 5?
how about sitting somebody? bring off bench? hay? tatum?
I think they need a sports psychologist. They’re actually doing the right things offensively for the most part, just need better shot selection and execution
This is a very painful game to watch....
you still watching?

I'd start Kyrie, Brown, Tatum, Semi, Baynes. Play lock down defense then unleash the offense off the bench.
The good news is a firs quarter lead is meaningless. Let’s see where we are at the half before panicking.
This is pathetic.Agreed. 32 -13.Unwatchable basketball against a crap team.

Still bad offense, even if Smart made that shot. What is he shooting, 18% from 3 this season?
Smart makes a 3 and immediately takes another one ::)
Single digits by halftime and I’m thrilled

Scal's blatant blind optimism is almost unbearable.
Amen. I stopped coming to these game threads for years because of it.Scal's blatant blind optimism is almost unbearable.
I prefer that to constant pessimism.
Between Tatum and Brown:
20 minutes, 1 rebound.
That's it. No points, no steals, nothing. Unless you want to count the 2 fouls that Brown has.
How about a freaking timeout, Brad? What are you getting paid for - to sit on your hands all game and make bad substitutions?
Hayward needs to teach camps on how to move without the ball.
Now if his teammates would stop going one on one and pass him the ball while he's moving.
Tatum not taking threes and working for contested mid range jumpers has to be one of the more alarming things happening on this team
So disappointed ! Honestly tought we are going to be like almost warriors.
Warren going Jamal Murray on usOur special ability is making decent, but not great players look awesome.
oh well
good news is rozier is gone after this year
zero BBIQ
Is there something wrong with that rim???

Something wrong with the offense. Too much iso ball and 3 pt chucking. Not enough PnRs and backdoor cuts

We have been awful since the 2nd quarter of the Denver game, besides really Kyrie and Mook
Lol. This is infuriatingWarren going Jamal Murray on usOur special ability is making decent, but not great players look awesome.

Murray followed up that game with a 6 for 21 performance against Memphis.
Brad Stevens has done a horrible job so far this year. He has had plenty of credit over the years and rightfully so but how many more games like this before he starts getting called out? No excuse there is too much talent to be getting spanked by a lottery team and possibly their 3rd loss in a row.
This team is completely lost
Wow, Brad, wow. Yabu? Really reaching at straws, huh? Just completely incapable of doing anything in game that isn't an ATO play.

I’ve been saying it all year. Roster compressing trade

Add in Horford and you have 33 minutes between both Jays and Al -- 0 points, 0 assists 2 rebounds. Could add that Gordon hasn't scored in 10 minutes either. This is historically bad.

I dunno, he's been copping lots of flak (for good reason) as of late. Warriors should be concerned with us now. They won’t know how to play us. They will be like nobody can shoot so who should we guard.

Question - didn't Isaiah Caanan have the exact same injury as Hayward last year but quite a bit later? How is he already so recovered and up to speed?
Not watching....recording it...Should I burn my DVR---?Yes.
Kyrie is the only starter that has scored. Everyone else is a combined 0-15 with 0 ****ing points.
Question - didn't Isaiah Caanan have the exact same injury as Hayward last year but quite a bit later? How is he already so recovered and up to speed?Because people are different? I don't really know of any injury recoveries that are identical, especially when you're comparing a 200lb 6 foot tall guy to a 230lb 6'8" guy
Jeesh. Can't say I'd blame himKyrie is the only starter that has scored. Everyone else is a combined 0-15 with 0 ****ing points.

This team is predicated on 3 pointers, step backs and fade aways. They simply have no desire to play inside
Here's a hot take: Brad can only coach underdogs. Maybe too much talent = too much overthinking.
Brad needs to trot out different starters to start the 3rd. Shake it up!
I predict Stevens hands this team their ass at halftime and they roar back to win this.
I was genuinely concerned about chemistry with GH back---I remembered how out of place he looked last year during preseason.
Something's gotta change.
This team is predicated on 3 pointers, step backs and fade aways. They simply have no desire to play insidethey’ve actually taken more inside shots this game than they have all year. Problem is they are 5-23 or something from the inside
Maybe you're right, I could just be projecting how I've been thinking lol. But I think after the Denver game and this one people are definitely getting on himI dunno, he's been copping lots of flak (for good reason) as of late. I'm really only here for the game threads anymore due to being busy at work, but I surely don't see much deserved criticism for Brad in those. In fact, I usually get scolded for bringing up any type of criticism about his in-game decision-making.
But good if people here are starting to hold him accountable and not blindly exalting him as the messiah anymore. He's a good coach, but I think at this point he's overrated, as he is just not that great at in-game/on the fly decision-making, which really hampers all that you said (rotations, timeout calling, etc.). And now add motivating players to the list.
Here's a hot take: Brad can only coach underdogs. Maybe too much talent = too much overthinking.
Brad isn't shooting the basketball.
He needs to show some balls in that locker room. This is sad.
I predict Stevens hands this team their ass at halftime and they roar back to win this.
it's like everyone who stepped up in Kyrie and Hayward's absences last year have regressed to worse than their rookie year summer league performances. just awful play by the young players (as well as Hayward)
I predict Stevens hands this team their ass at halftime and they roar back to win this.
The Celtics had a VERY short stay in the locker room at halftime. In fact, they were out so early that they had to wait a few mins for a youth basketball game to end.
Most of the Celtics are out and ready to start shooting with eight minutes left in halftime. The kids’ scrimmage on the court is still going on.
So a back to back in Utah tomorrow without Kyrie and one in Portland to close out this roadie. Going to come home under .500 and 0-5 on this road trip.Us and Houston both seem to have bought into our own hype
I mean they aren't even an average team
Tatum has lost what made him so good. His offense is lazy and he settles from the ole step back fade away ala Kobe...At least Kobe averaged 28ppg for over a decade. JT looks like OKC Melo
Good. Tatum sitting on the bench. Maybe that'll be a wake-up call to him.
It's easy to pick on Tatum because he's been worse. Not rocket scienceGood. Tatum sitting on the bench. Maybe that'll be a wake-up call to him.
easy to pick on Tatum why not bench Heyward,

Great,...Al now gimpy
#Celtics change up the starting lineup a bit in the 2nd half: Irving, Smart, Brown, Hayward and Horford. Micah Shrewsberry told me, we’re just looking for 5 guys who’re gonna play hard... effort is non-negotiable.

Yikes, Tatum might be in the doghouse. I wouldn't be opposed to him sitting the rest of the game if it put a fire under his arse.
Look what happens when you're aggressive to the rim. They get FTs. See that, Brad? Encourage them to attack the hoop.
horrible D on that play. no help for Horford on Booker's drive.Once Al was beat we were dead anyway.
See that. They drive and kick in rythmn. Rozier dives and only sees the basket.Rozier is a flat out bad player, lol. Would rather Canaan
I'm really not sure why Rozier gets so much playing time at this point.

why would he take training with Kobe? All he really needed was a strength and conditioning program,Because Kobe was/is his idol
What the hell has happened to Jayson Tatum? Did Kobe really ruin this kid? He is just not the same player he was last year, on either end of the court.
How many layups have we blown this game?

I don't know why when Brown started getting it going he goes to the bench and just stays there.
This game is over. Let's see Williams and Wannamaker.
Yup. CBS does it allllll the timeI don't know why when Brown started getting it going he goes to the bench and just stays there.
Brad really likes to cool off the hot hand.
this game is still out there for us to win, amazinglyReally says a lot about Phoenix
Clearly Jaylen didn’t spent the summer working on his free throwsAmong almost every other aspect of his game, considering he's regressed majorly
How is Brown such an exceptionally bad finisher at the ring
My God, you can't script a worse game for us than this. Three missed free throws in a row down the stretch?
Seriously, Brad, grow an effing pair and do something about this. Bench the freaking starters tomorrow. DO SOMETHING. You're going to be on the hot seat before you know it, because you're letting by far the most talented team you've ever had go to waste right now due to your ineptness.

well, that one killed the comebackIdiotic foul
Tough road trip...
The team has some serious issues they need to figure out.
Kyrie!
Kyrie!
And again!
By the way, how the hell does Brown not get the and-1 there on Booker?? Dude has been on his knees for the refs ::)
HOLY CRAP!!!!!!
And what the hell is Phoenix thinking with not fouling there? Especially Morris when he's holding the ball up top.It makes no sense to me why a team doesn't do that more often. There's no way he can milk that into a 3 FTA play
Ahem....just want to say the Celtics are going to win this game. Said it when they were down 19 and 16 and now in overtime. Celtic Strong. Celtic Pride
MOOK has ice water in his veins. I hope he gets his big payout next year he deserves it

I'm so glad I didn't turn this game off. I was so close.
Kyrie / Al / Jaylen all stepping up
WHERE HAS THIS BEEN!?
CELTICS WIN!!!!!!
That was a Kyrie signature game. Wow.
I'm also glad I'm not the coach. I would have played Wannamaker halfway through the fourth. TP to Brad.
They did this a lot last year. I think they came back from more than 20 about 6 or 7 times last year.WHERE HAS THIS BEEN!?
Seriously. We did all that in a handful of minutes by simply playing with intensity and purpose. Why can't we play like that more consistently instead of playing with our heads up our butt 90% of the game?
That win was all leadership by Kyrie on both ends of the floor.Superstar level tonight. Booker is dang good.
THIs win is all on Kyrie. He put the team on his back offensively and got a key contest on Bookers layup that was huge

Is there any doubt who the best player on this team is? The unselfish-to-a-fault mindset of the starting five needs to end. This is Kyrie's team and everything needs to flow through him until somebody else proves that they deserve a share of that responsibility.
So after Stevens got so much blame for the first half does he get some love for the comeback win?
Kyrie giving away his jersey and sneakers to Celtics fans in Phoenix.
How awesome is that.
Brown with and amazing second half. Morris too. But Kyrie was unconscious. Dude is back!!!!
THIs win is all on Kyrie. He put the team on his back offensively and got a key contest on Bookers layup that was huge
Kyrie: Defensive stopper!

Medium rare?

Brown needs to play like aggressively like that all game every game. These guys are still figuring out there roles. When they said screw it and went all out, they were great. Hopefully they will learn from this.

Can’t lose with steak and ribs!
So when the players are missing 6-8 open layups and about 10 wide, wide open three point shots, it's Stevens fault. But when the players start making those shots, it's all on the players. Got it! ::) ::) ::)So after Stevens got so much blame for the first half does he get some love for the comeback win?
Nope. This was all on Kyrie (and to a lesser amount Brown and Mook), as he put the team on his back and willed us to victory. Brad didn't really have much to do with it, other than not messing it up, which is a pretty low bar.
I will give him credit for sticking with our guys so long on the first night of a back to back. Probably figured this was a better chance of a win than tomorrow night without Kyrie, but props regardless.
Phoenix's coach takes the cake for dumb coach moves tonight after that last 5:07. Not fouling in the last regulation play was an enormously idiotic move, but it is rivaled by him not even calling a single timeout in OT to slow our major run down and set something up for his guys when they came up empty a few trips in a row.
Brown was almost exclusively on Booker in the first half and he was held to 3-9 for 10 points. His effort was great almost all game defensively. But his offensive aggression in the second half is definitely something he needs to do all game. Few can stop him when he can get a lane to the basket. I could easily see him building off this and becoming this team's second leading scorer. The last 4-5 games or so he is starting to find that rhythmBrown with and amazing second half. Morris too. 6/8 for seventeen points and pretty good defense. I'll take it.
I just came here to say Kyrie is a stud. You consider yourself lucky when you get a player like him, and you don't let him go.
That is all. Good night, good win!
I reckon let Tommy roast the whole team when we get back to BostonI just came here to say Kyrie is a stud. You consider yourself lucky when you get a player like him, and you don't let him go.

He’s been fantastic the last few games, surprisingly good on defense as well. He went from sluggish to on fire overnight. I think it was more than just Tommy saying he looked out of shape.
Regardless, Tommy should call out a few more players this week.

Sure. It's his job to keep his guys motivated and confident; that's a huge part of coaching a team and managing players. The first half was a major example of him failing in this regard, as these guys were clearly unprepared, overthinking things, and missing those shots, let alone all of their defensive miscues. Brad is not the only one to blame, but he's a major part.
Further, Brad didn't do jack crap to get the guys playing better in the 4th. That was pretty much all Kyrie who simply took charge, getting Brown and Morris to help him out.
In fact, the only thing you can really give Brad props for was for sitting on his hands and not taking the main guys out early, as that allowed Kyrie to get hot and drag the team to victory. I'll also give him credit for drawing up the basic framework for the ATO play (which I think he's easily the best at in the league), though I don't think the actual intended target was Morris.
It's just astonishing to me the number of Celtics fans who simply give Brad a pass for his clear deficiencies. He's a great coach with a lot of great qualities, and I would be fine with him here for the rest of his career. But it's simply inarguable that he struggles with in-game decision-making, be it on-the-fly substitutions, calling timeouts, making adjustments to his game plan, etc., which is a major component of being a good NBA coach.
Hopefully he better develops his robust analytical skills to be more dynamic and flexible in his in-game decision-making, but for now it's a clear weakness of his that regularly hurts us in games.
wow this team is a huge disappointment so far...if u are a top team, u suppose to beat lesser teams like Phoenix, orlando, Knicks easily! Bucks just whoop Golden State big time..its between Bucks and Raptors folks in the East unless something major happens
Anyone else have a hard time watching that game last night? The court was not the problem the play was. I went to bed. This team is in trouble and not a championship contender at the moment.
Not the play but simply visually. The bright orange court against the C’s dark green uniforms just is a terrible contrast.
I feel like I always feel this way whenever they play in Phoenix
Yeah, that we played perhaps the worst half of Celtics basketball in the last 3 years or so and still pulled out the win is testament to our will, and to our super talented PGwow this team is a huge disappointment so far...if u are a top team, u suppose to beat lesser teams like Phoenix, orlando, Knicks easily! They clearly have a lot of issues offensively right now. They also clearly have a lot of talent. They will figure it out. As bad as they've playing, they're still 7-4. They will be fine.
Glad we played it out and won, but this needs to stop happening. Slow starts are a problem or not finishing, it is a different thing each game. We need to be playing 48 minutes of basketball with effort not a quarter here or there.I'd rather see Jayson try and emulate KD, or prime Ray Allen, rather than Kobe. Blegh. Completely breaks our offensive sets sometimes
Guys are coming back from injuries and I think at this point, we can say that Kobe messed with Jayson 's game be over complicating his moves. I think we will right the ship but it is maddening seeing guys dogging it on the court.

Nice win last night but it's hard to get too excited about coming back on a team that we should've beaten by 25 points easily.
You're welcome, everybody. I shut it off and went to bed after the PHX went on a run toward the end of the 3rd to get it back to 18. Great surprise to wake up this morning to a win!
I agree with others that it is a bit concerning how terrible we have been (at times) this season. Guys like Hayward, Rozier, and Tatum can't continue to play this poorly if we are going to be elite. But I will put that aside and enjoy being 7-4 instead of 6-5. Great effort!
