Please use this thread to nominate your choice for thread of the year and please post a link to that thread. A few words why you believe it to be the thread of the year would go a long way in the decision making process. After we have collected some of this year's absolute best threads, Celticsblog will put it to a vote and the membership will choose their selection for 2008-09 Thread of the Year which will receive it's own special place in the Celticsblog Hall of Fame.
Please limit choices from threads that were started on or after Opening Day 2008.

I nominate the "2008-09 Thread of the Year Nomination Thread".
-
hands down, this is my fav! no need to explain the reason bc its self-explanatory!

I have two nominations and will briefly explain why. The are both non-celtic related, sadly. Maybe we could divide up this award to include celtic related and non?

"Conflict in Israel: What's your take? "
Very short thread, but I found it very informative with a lot of different opinions and people kept it pretty respectful, while it could touched a sensative subject. My best friend is Palestinian and my girlfriend is Jewish, so I heard very much one-sided arguments of this conflict often and it was great and incredibly informative to read this. I did not post at all, but followed it closely.

"Obama's stimulus package"
Lots of interesting ideas in here (from the democrats at least ;)) and I posted a few times myself. I also followed this thread closely.
These 2 threads I can actually still remember reading today and they both were from around January or February when hot issues.

Looks like it missed the cutoff of opening day '08.

Just to let you know DL the CB HOF will not be forgetting years 2004-2008. This is just the starting point and my guess is that Jsaad's love life, the deli guy, Roy's Salary Cap FAQ threads, 100 Tommy Points and We Have a New Star threads will not be forgotten.
Patience my young Padawan

Some of the game threads were pretty classic. Probably Game 6 against Chicago, although that didn't end the way we would have liked it to. Game 7 against the Bulls and Game 5 against the Magic were good threads, too.
-
"Praise the Squirrel" and "Insult the Squirrel" were pretty random, but funny, threads.
-
The "Roy Hobbs Facts Thread" was memorable, on a personal basis. ;)
Something to do with the CB draft, maybe, as I think that's our longest thread ever.
Without question, "Ask Edgar".
Redz Rants is in its infancy, but is a great thread.
"Write a Haiku"
-
EDIT: Wrong place

Thanks Roy. I'm currently fighting off a major case of writer's block on one topic. Just spent 45 minutes writing something and deleted it (on purpose)

u know whats funny, when thinking of the best threads on CB, they rarely have anything to do with the celts or bball. most of the time its the community or off topic threads that stick out for me.

The celtics talk forum during the summer is like high school school was for me during summer. I don't think about it much, and I don't really miss it, but before I know it the seasons change and I'm in there all day.

i agree. i still go there during the offseason, but when thinking of threads that stick out of my favs, the majority of them have nothing to do with the team.

Bring Will Solomon back is my favorite thread of all time.

For future reference I need to mention the fruit wars threads but I think that would definitely not be this years. Oh and Game 4 2008 Finals with the comeback was probably the best Game Thread ever.

I'm still a little emotional over the outcomes of those.

This thread was seriously entertaining and full of good laughs. I wish the thread had continued longer because I believe the OP would have kept it going as long as we had let him.
-
Yeah, I'm not sure that locked threads make great candidates for the HOF. ;)

As my dad is fond of saying, "The nice thing about banging your head against the wall is that it feels good when you stop."

I just read that for the first time. It was incredible. If you read all the posts in a Jersey Shore accent you really get a better feel for things. Just seems right.

Edit: Retracted.

I would feel seriously better about this thread if all discussion regarding star18's thread and what he was like in that thread were to stop. First, the purpose of this thread is to nominate threads for Thread of the Year and a thread that got locked due to the inability of a member to stop arguing a point most found non arguable will not be considered.
Most of the enjoyment some got out of that thread was at the expense of a member and that is not the spirit of what we are trying to accomplish here.
Thank you.
-
Sorry Nick for nominating that thread. It was not my intention to nominate the thread as embarrassment to the OP. Comical Value over seriousness was more for my nomination. I do however think that the original OP would be honored to have a thread of his nominated for thread of the Year.
But I fully understand where you are coming from.
-
I don't agree - at all - that the best threads on this blog have nothing to do with the Celtics, but I recognize that we're all here for different reasons.
There are a goodly number of basketball technicians on this board with whom I love to toss around ideas. People like Steve Weinman, for example, and Roy Hobbs. And those are some of the threads that I have enjoyed the most over the year.
Truthfully, I really don't think much of these nomination deals, and as such don't want to participate. They cause more drama, and hurt more feelings than they're worth, I think.

I'm not sure in this case I agree with this statement Coach. First, this is for the Hall of Fame and this is going to be about the only membership interactive part of this, I hope. There will be nominations and elections for thread, post, game thread, fanpost and front page article of the year. If a person wants a post, thread, fanpost or front page article of their's nominated all they have to do is nominate it. It will be the membership as a whole who picks the winner.
Also, it will hopefully encourage people to participate in all the different places that they can participate at Celticsblog if they are looking for recognition. Write fanposts, open threads, write posts, read and participate in the game threads, read the front page articles. The higher quality the participation, the more likely the chance of getting an original post or fanpost published on the front page. It's a rewarding and flattering feeling. And who knows, maybe someday that person will have something in the CBHOF for all to see 20 years from now.
For those reading this thinking "when might I be able to get in the Hall?" and thinking this is going to be causing drama and there will be favorites, you are looking at the CB HOF in the wrong manner. This is not a popularity contest. This is not about having the most TP's or the most posts or being here the longest. It is about what your participation has meant in the shaping of Celticsblog and making it into the best fan blog site on the internet.
Many people gave up countless hours of their time for years to make Celticsblog what it is today. People 99% of the membership have never even heard of. They will be honored. They will have their names set aside. But those names will be released once a year and they will be carefully weighed and considered.
I hope that clears some things up and I hope I am talking for the entire staff here. If I left something out please let me know.
-
One person's opinion, Nick, and it's why I won't be participating.
If it works, good for the blog. No problem. I just don't like the idea much.
-
"Praise the Squirrel" and "Insult the Squirrel" were pretty random, but funny, threads.
were? still are, we're going strong with dem squirrelz
-
SOTOTT isn't eligible...I am deeply saddened by this development

In the hardest of times I have also found great solace in the Bunnies thread.

The Bunnies thread will have to be nominated for '07-'08, but yeah, it's another solid off-beat thread. I'm not sure it compares to the epic Apple vs. Orange struggle, however.
-
This one was a good basketball thread, related to the '08-'09 season, but technically started in the off-season: http://forums.celticsblog.com/index.php?topic=22119.0
(I think it may make sense to "years" from July 1 of '08 until June 30th of '09, since that's the league year. If so, this one does, in fact, qualify).
-
This one started slow, but turned out to have some great debate (horrible title, though): http://forums.celticsblog.com/index.php?topic=23639.150

The Powe vs. BBD debate has to be commemorated, right? Here's one such thread: http://forums.celticsblog.com/index.php?topic=18185.0

The problem with Celtics-related threads is that individual threads don't stick out, so much as memorable topics.
The '08-'09 season should be remembered as the Summer of Dumpster Diving, and the year where KG went down.

Here is my nomination for thread of the year. For 2 reasons 1 it was funny and 2 it really involved alot of people. http://forums.celticsblog.com/index.php?topic=29566.0

I was thinking of starting it back up but since I just threw it out here for thread for the year I thought I should let someone else get it going again.

I was thinking on nominating Shaq in pink speedo. :P
Funny name for a thread...maybe that could be in a cat on his own.

Personally I was very impressed by the Gates/Racism threads and enjoyed the related beerfest threads where we discussed beer without discussing the original incident
I feel awkward mentioning one of my own threads, but I enjoyed the top 10 beer threads and learned some stuff
The personality draft thread where about 10 of you drafted world leaders and comedians and actors and ranked them, was an extremely high effort thread over months that had hilarious results. I don't have the umph to participate in a thread like that, so I'm amazed by those that do
This is counter intuitive, but we got two adult entertainment threads recently and I find the noteworthy threads, not for content but for how quickly mods reacted and absolutely nobody responded to them even one time. They were completely rejected by the entire membership immediately
-
I also kinda think it's cool when people try to help each other with things like "I need to lose weight" and "I need help with a job offer" type threads
-
As I said in the Post of the Year Nomination Thread, I think this might be Celticsblog at it's best on a controversial subject in the Current Events forum:
http://forums.celticsblog.com/index.php?topic=28579.0
The Gay Marriage - Where Do You Stand Thread
-
I think the Illegal Immigration thread is the most involved one I've ever been in. There's like 5 side topics going on at once.
-
perhaps the current events/off topic threads need a category all their own
-
Giving this one more bump before the voting thread comes out to choose the Celticsblog Thread of the Year. If you happen to think that a certain thread was the best you saw this past year, nominate it here!
-
out of curiosity...who votes? i think it might be best if the mods decide, but thats just me.
-
I can tell you this....if this blog site nominates The Gay Marriage Thread as the The Thread of the year then the end is truly near. It makes just start laughing.
I have not read it, although I am sure it was lovely discussion but what the in the .........hahahahahaha
I really don't care if people are, gay, communist, straight, republican, democrat, tall, short, shy, outgoing, etc etc etc......I always try to take people at face value the best I can.....I have friends of all of those persuasions but......
The possible Best Thread on Celtics basketball blog site is about Gay marriage?????? Wow.......It was a long dry summer and NO Banner
Same Sex Marriage? ...... What's the big deal anyway. I have been married for 24 years to a wonderful women and it's always the same sex.
Peace
