....all his eggs in the Anthony Davis basket.

Big Guys don't win championships in today's NBA.

Year   Winning team

2018   Golden State Warriors
2017   Golden State Warriors - elite shooters and swingmen, not sure of Green is a true "BIG"

2016   Cleveland Cavaliers - LeBron

2015   Golden State Warriors - see above

2014   San Antonio Spurs - Kawahi

2013   Miami Heat
2012   Miami Heat - LeBron/Wade

2011   Dallas Mavericks - Dirk, but he plays more like a SF and non-traditional BIG

2010   Los Angeles Lakers
2009   Los Angeles Lakers - Kobe, to a lesser extent Gasol

2008   Boston Celtics - Pierce/KG but KG was most effective on the DEFENSIVE side.

So 1 team (2008) in the last 11 years really had a traditional BIG that ended up winning it all.

I think this team goes only as far as TATUM/J. Brown in today's NBA.

Do we feel their ceilings are high enough?

  • GOT IT!!!
You make it sound like he’ll be playing by himself. Ainge would surround Kyrie and him will much more than anything he currently has outside of Holiday.

Anthony Davis is not your traditional big. He is big but he can do everything. We have some good eggs too. Going to be interesting, no trade for Davis unless we have Kyrie signed. But our league is becoming position less and nobody is better at it than our coach. I hope we can make a great run and Tatum takes it to a new level and Davis can wreck The Lakers future.

Agreed 100%. If you don't count all the good bigs on Championship winning teams, good bigs don't win championships
I'm bitter.

You are seriously insulting the big man skills of

Kevin Garnett - future big man Hall of Famer
Pau Gasol - future big man Hall of Famer
Tim Duncan - future big man Hall of Famer
Dirk Nowitzki - future big man Hall of Famer
Chris Bosh - future big man Hall of Famer.

So you think Kyrie and Davis is enough?

We would have to traded all/most of our assets to get Davis.

Not discounting them.

I mentioned Garnett and Dirk already.

Bosh? Please.

Gasol was effective but really Kobe is the reason that team was a contender.

Duncan? They guy was on his last legs he was an above average big at that point.

Davis is great but he's not THAT good.

His Pelicans team is pretty talented and they still aren't a threat.

You don't say no to get AD but I hope we play big this year and KD bolts so we don't need AD.

Bosh and Duncan for sure were elite big men when they won those titles, as were Dirk and KG.  C’mon.

I don't think all our assets will be gone. First, I think Danny might be able to keep both Brown and Smart as well as Kyrie, Hayward and Horford. Sure we would lose Tatum, Yabusele, Williams and about 4 picks but our team could look like this:

Kyrie
Brown
Hayward
Davis
Horford

Smart
Morris(re-sign)
Ojeleye
MLE signing
Baynes

And we would still have 1st rounders in 2020 and 2022 and a possible 1st rounder from LAC but more probably a second rounder a year later. That's probably best case scenario but that is a title winning team.

I think Ainge will go after KD in. S&T and NOT AD. He doesn't have to part with many assets to get KD because the Warriors will lose him for nothing.

That would be exciting and I expect Hayward to be much better next year.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.  Warriors aren't going to do that unless they get a lot in return.  And KD has to want to come here and I'd bet that he doesn't.

I disagree with OP basketball is still a big man's game. Some think the Cs lost in 2010 because Danny traded Perkins and Shaq went down. Lakers won 2000 and 2010 with bigs like Bynum and Gasol. They also had Odom who had size and played big.

Basketball is still a big man's game.
