One way they could pull it off - Hardaway wants to follow in his father’s footsteps and Luka wants Dragic in his backcourt:

Also read that Luka has some sort of relationship with Dragic and the Mavs hope Hardaway opts out. Don’t recall where.

Okay, so there’s no report saying he’s headed there.

The strongest indicator is that Chris Paul has not been introduced to OKC publicly. There are plenty of reports this is going to happen, it’s juts a question of how.

Maybe you missed this update from that old Bleacher Report article you linked to:

https://thespun.com/nba/miami-heat-insider-has-a-telling-chris-paul-update
Quote
On Wednesday, ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski revealed that Oklahoma City may keep Paul for the upcoming season. The front office has no desire to rush a blockbuster trade.

Most analysts believed that the Miami Heat would be the best destination for Paul. Although pairing him alongside Jimmy Butler would be intriguing, the odds of it actually happening aren’t too great.

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Heat aren’t enthusiastic about acquiring Paul on the trade market. This is much different from their stance on Russell Westbrook, who the front office tried to strike a deal for earlier in the offseason.

Basically, Paul’s hefty contract wouldn’t give the Heat much flexibility for the next few years.

If Miami wants to be aggressive in upcoming free agencies, then passing on any trade involving Paul would be the correct move.

Barry Jackson

@flasportsbuzz
... Heat knew deal made no sense for them otherwise because it would have restricted 2021 flexibility. Level of enthusiasm for Paul inside the Heat has been far below level of enthusiasm for Westbrook before Westbrook was traded

Oklahoma City holds all the cards in this scenario, as it’ll decide whether to keep Paul or move him for the best offer.

At this point, it seems like Paul will be the starting point guard for the Thunder. And yet, it wouldn’t be too shocking if another big trade goes down this offseason.

Stay tuned for the latest involving CP3.

Apologies for saying reportedly rather than rumor. The bottom line is all the buzz is that it’s going down, so who has some ideas on how they could actually pull it off?

Miami can match salary easy enough.

On Bill Simmons podcast he suggested that Milwaukee could offer Bledsoe, Hill, and Ilyasova for Chris Paul on December 15th.  Milwaukee needs to win one by 2021 the thought being to keep Giannis.
2019 historical draft.  Pick 12

Tim Duncan, Oscar Robertson, Elgin Baylor, Scottie Pippen, Willis Reed, Mitch Richmond, Sam Jones, Dan Majerle, Bob Cousy, Rasheed Wallace, Shawn Kemp, Marcus Camby

That would be one of Bill Simmons' dumbest trade proposals, and he's had some doozies.

Why would OKC want to make MIA better when they own I believe an unprotected draft pick.

This doesn't work, Miami are hard capped. Here they take on over $50m in salary whilst only shedding $47m, putting them over the hard cap.

NBA declares the trade void..

That won’t match salary.  Heat are subject to the hard cap this season and are currently only $400k from it.  So to get Paul they have to send out virtually his salary.

Where are you getting your info on Miami’s situation?

I believe they can get below the tax by waiving their exhibit 10 contracts, leaving them a bit over $5 million to work with when applying cap charges, etc.

That leaves them a bit short in the above scenario, so they’d have to move Johnson instead of KO.
