Title: just really beginning to grasp how scary this team is
Post by: rollie mass on June 25, 2018, 08:45:07 AM
Kyrie back ,focused and liberated from pain,Hayward and Horford so reliable and smart
The two kids with notches in their guns with itchy trigger fingers .
Then Morris with a summer to get healthy instead of a trial and a preseason ,Theis coming back more than a rookie to NBA.
Then there is Marcus and Rozier and Rozier is doing his best Kyrie down in NYC street courts.Semi will not be a rookie and will find his shot again-44% since all star game
Yabusele has had a season .
Then the lone ROOKIE who swats blocks and goes up over the box and can switch already
So Much Talent and then the 2019 draft.

TP.  Love me some "rollie morning post" to get the week going.   ;)

Didn't we all know, deep down, that Danny would not make a move on draft night?  Perhaps if Williams went higher DA might have punted, but this draft was deep in big men and that's what they needed.

I agree, Rollie. Assuming Kyrie and Gordon are 100%, this team is going to be awesome, fun to watch, a lot of wins.  Shocked if we are not a 60 plus win team.

Can easily see a 60+ win team, especially if Lebron heads out west. The Cs should absolutely dominate the East next year without Lebron in conference and have no problem beating most Western Conference teams.

Sometimes its great to draft the right player. Danny had done it with 4 great choices in Tatum, Brown, Rozier and Smart. Sometimes you're just lucky when someone slips to you, like Robert Williams did. Either way, Danny is onfire with his drafting, trading and signing of players all while avoiding cap taxes.

Going to be a year where Boston has an unreal win streak that gets a bunch of national attention, a year with 4 All Stars, a year with a trip to the Finals, a year with a title celebration, and a year of getting the 2nd pick in next year's draft.

What i like about Boston is the versatility they bring. Three wings that can get their own shot, can spot up, drive...

4 different kind of bigs that all do different things

Good stuff Rollie! There are many weapons on this team when healthy. Irving, Hayward, Brown, Tatum...when Rozier gets hot get out of his way too.

Throw in our defense...yep I agree scary.

Rob Ryan just did an interview and he loves this group, don't trade anybody he wants to win it all with this group-No Lebron,No Kwali-He is not talking as a journalist but as a fan -a very experienced one.

Yeah baby. Led by your favorite Celtic Marcus Smart!!

Celtics are not scary.
Too many questions about Kyrie's health and long-term plans
But they are an interesting team if Hayward comes back fully healthy and Kyrie works out in the long term.

What does he even know about basketball? Never really cared for him, way too emotional.

This team WILL be scary when Kyrie and Hayward are 100%.

The problem is fixing rotations and minutes, and lineups. But it's a good problem to have.

Irving/Brown/Hayward/Tatum/Horford starting 5 and closing 5?

It's very exciting!  The team should be elite, and is an awesome mix of home grown and built/acquired talent.  It'll be one of those seasons where you can't miss a game.

Assuming Smart and Baynes are back, that puts the roster at this (Nader can easily be dropped for someone else).

PG - Irving, Rozier, Wannamaker
SG - Brown, Smart
SF - Hayward, Morris, Ojeleye, Nader
PF - Tatum, Theis, Yabusele
C - Horford, Baynes, Williams

With everyone healthy, I would expect the regular seasons minutes to be something like this (I'd want to keep Tatum at PF all season so he gets used to it though when he is playing with Morris he may be the SF)

PG - Irving 32, Rozier 16
SG - Brown 24, Smart 24
SF - Hayward 32, Brown 6, Morris 10
PF - Tatum 30, Morris 6, Theis 12
C - Horford 30, Baynes 12, Williams 6

So total minutes

32 - Irving, Hayward
30 - Brown, Tatum, Horford
24 - Smart
16 - Rozier, Morris
12 - Baynes, Theis
6 - Williams

Come playoffs, I think the rotation shrinks to 9 with Theis and Williams getting cut out

PG - Irving 36, Rozier 12
SG - Brown 30, Smart 18
SF - Hayward 36, Brown 6, Morris 6
PF - Tatum 36, Morris 12
C - Horford 36, Baynes 12

Depends on who we're playing. I think when we play a team like Philly with a strong post presence, you'll see Baynes and Theis get a lot more minutes. Baynes would probably start in that scenario.

Overall minutes likely won't change much, but it will be interesting to see who is coming off the bench on a night where CBS starts Baynes. Maybe initially Hayward, but I'm guessing eventually Brown. At closing time, I think he goes back to his best 5 and has Al guard the ADs KATs of the world. You have to like our best 5 against any other East team's best 5, but it's not a good idea to ask Al at his age to defend someone like Embiid big minutes every time we play them.

Agree completely. I think some avg minutes per game (like Williams, Morris and Rozier) will be higher due to rest/games missed for the star/older (we only really have one older player) players.

TP for that video. I mean... that succession of plays, in that moment, by that player (rookie). INSANE! The chest bump on LBJ after that dunk...lucky he didn't get T'd up. (IMO it would've been worth it).

And we add 2 all stars to that same group next year. Good luck East & West. I actually have confidence in our ability to compete with any team next year.
