Sure his stats will level off (by how much, don't know) but I wish he was still on the Celtics.

Much rather have Baynes than Kanter if salary cap wasn's an issue.

Well, if salary cap wasn't an issue, I'd gladly have kept Horford on this team  :P

Said all offseason that people underestimated his loss. We will feel his loss more than Morris or Rozier. He was incredibly important to this team. Love the dude. Really happy he's doing well.

Really happy for him. He can't keep this up and he'll go back to the bench anyway when Ayton returns but I love the guy and love seeing him play well.

All of Australia has been beasting it!

Here's a fun comparison of two Aussies, Aron and Ben, and their journeys towards learning how to shoot from the perimeter.

But Simmons hit that deep three against the Mighty Guangzhou Long-Lions from China in the preseason. He was a torrid 1-1 from deep.

From all accounts Ben Simmons was working hard on his jump-shot over the summer. He just unwilling (afraid?) to try them in games.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar used to talk about this with Andrew Bynum. Saying there was no point him practicing and learning Kareem's sky-hook if Bynum was unwilling to try it out during games. It is through using it in games where you learn how to use it.

Pippen was talking about it too. Saying he went through a similar experience early in his career. He couldn't make jump-shots. He was afraid to even take shots. He had to force himself to take 1-2 jump-shots a night even though he did not want to. As the years went on, Pippen got more comfortable and became a capable jump-shooter but he it started there. That is where Simmons has to start and he is unwilling (afraid?) to do so. That is the biggest disappointment of his season so far.

I was very sad to see Baynes go.  He was a bargain player and was one of my favorite Celtics along with Smart.  I thought he could become a capable deep volume shooter (like Lopez lite) given the opportunity.

if salary cap was not an issue , the Lakers would have 7 of the top 20 players in the league on their roster ....every year.

I wonder if the surprise success of two years ago messed up Simmons chance to commit to growing his game due to the pressure. Simmons was so good as a rookie and Embiid was so good when finally healthy it amped up the timeline and everything else with the 76ers.

We saw how that consumed Fultz and prevented him from having even a chance there.

Aron Baynes beasted it vs the Blazers, 37 pts and 16 rebs including NINE threes.

He'd look good playing for us right about now, wouldn't he

Dang!

Baynes would be so perfect on this team.

So, assume the money is the same:  Baynes or Kanter?

I would have to go Baynes on the basis that a) he's a better overall defender, both inside and outside; and b) he has a more varied offensive toolbox. Kanter is clearly a more solid rebounder, and we get a lot of second shot opportunities with him, but I think the type of player that Baynes appears to have become this season in Phoenix is exactly the type of 5 that would work with more of Brad's lineups.

That said, Kanter is 6 years younger at 27 so if you're looking at use by dates that is something to consider. Also, it can probably be argued that Baynes is basically a bulkier, less-mobile version of Theis, probably less versatile at defending on the perimeter but better at defending bigs. Kanter *probably* complements Theis's weaknesses better as with Baynes and Theis there's some overlap. But I would still go for Baynes personally, I like the big fella  8)

Here's their stats for this season only.
