I don’t know anything about Springer. What’s his story? He a project or can he actually crack the back half of our rotation?

2021 first round pick. Only shooting 24% on threes in the NBA but that's on just 42 attempts. Was a good shooter in college on low volume, better spotting up. Good physical defender.

To me this seems like a long shot flier on a combo guard with decent size/defense. But it might be more about his salary. 4.0 million next year opens up more potential options in a trade than a minimum guy does for salary matching.

The 76ers are trading Jaden Springer to the Celtics for a second-round pick, sources tell ESPN.

Weird Sixers moves, dealing with rivals.

And why are we taking on an inefficient SG?

I love this. He has started to show some real chops as a defender. He might be special there.

Curious if we’re also sending a min player in return.

I hope so.  Even then, I *think* Springer has like a $4 million contract last year.  Why would we want that, especially if we had to give up a #2?  We should be the team getting the pick.

Celtics are much better defensively off the bench

Springer is a big defensive combo guard, no?

That sounds useful. Good alternative to Pritchard if Pritchard is getting beaten up on defensively in the playoffs. A bigger guard who can handle the ball.

I haven't watched him much in the NBA; is he better than Banton?

I guess Stevens thought Springer was better than Banton.

"Combo guard" = "good defense, bad offense" ;D

He's an elite athlete and only 21. He could be something.

I’m guessing they simply like him.  I was hoping the C’s would get a 3rd year 1st rounder a team was moving off of, so in style I like this move.  Not a Springer expert specifically, but I think there are generally bargains to be had with players in that spot of their careers.

I really hope Queta is still on the roster at the end of today.

So we essentially like Springer’s potential over Banton. Not surprised. Wasn’t a huge fan of Banton, and with some of the issues early on with the coaching staff haven’t to be on Banton for his energy, I didn’t expect he’d do much of anything here.

I do like that we kept the extra spot open for a potential buyout.
